  • Liberal education critic Marwah Rizqy is not persuaded by the justifications offered by the CAQ for its tuition hike plan.
    On the latest episode of the Corner Booth, she tells our hosts that she's done the math and higher education minister Pascale Déry's arguments just don't add up: "When you open your mouth saying something, you have to back it up with data."

    To those of you who think that the tuition hikes are okay and are, in a way, payback to English-speaking Canadians, how do you think the taxpayers of B.C. and Alberta feel about the billions of dollars of their money which go to Quebec every year as equalization payments? We don't like it, and one of these days, that money will stop and then how will Quebec pay it's bills? That will be Quebec's problem.

    I don't know where else to post this question....The Legault Gov claims, the tuition hikes are only to out of province Canadians because the way the system works... When 'out of province' students go to school in Quebec, the cost of them is more than what the 'out of province' students are really paying. Is this system the same in every other province? so example, when a student decides to go to university anywhere outside his or her province in Canada, that povince they attend university, end up paying for their presence/attendance there? Or is this fact only in Quebec and this is why it is 'justified' by the Legault Gov't.

      He can live 12 months in Quebec without being a student (he can get a job in the meantime and save up some money while perfecting his language skills). After 12 months, he will be considered a Quebec resident and pay tuition fees of any university in Quebec (McGill, Concordia, UdeM, UQAM, Université Laval, etc.) the same as a Quebecer, which is lower than the fees applied to Canadians outside Quebec.
      So not only you earn some good money, settle in and breathe a bit in a sort of gap year, then you pay the lowest possible fees in the whole country.

    Ontario has 600,000 Franco-Ontarians who have only one hospital which the Ontario government strongly wanted to close and the Franco-Ontarians have just had their first university in 2021 located in Toronto, while the majority of French live in Ottawa. Quebec has 660,000 Anglo-Quebecers who have nearly 20 hospitals including a huge brand new McGill University Hospital and they have 3 universities for a very long time. ON TOP OF THAT, WE HAVE TO PAY FOR EDUCATION TO EVERYONE IN CANADA THAT'S NUTS!

    • @joetran8798
      @joetran8798 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +16

      The amount of misinformation you spout is truly astounding. Let me guess, you googled and found the old reddit thread that gave next to no information and took it as fact. Just about every hospital in Ontario has french speaking staff or translators on hand for a multitude of languages including french. From my actual experience, french (and other languages) have been available from the emergency dispatchers all the way to the doctors and nurses to specialists. And the people are willing to speak those languages if that's what it took.
      And AGAIN (since you seem to forget so easily), we're not asking you to pay for everyone's education. We're just asking you to not discriminate... you want to raise your fees for OOP students wanting to go to McGill or Concordia or Bishop, go ahead. But raise them for the same amount for OOP students for the french universities as well. Fair is fair. But you seem either incapable of understanding that or unwilling to accept that.

      @@joetran8798 Lol, Everyone has google translate dude even Hospital in Quebec for English speakers. The truth is that francophone quebecers is subsidizing the english community for years in Quebec and that is fine with me. 30% of funding for universities in Quebec goes to english institution while anglos make 13% of the population. This is not affecting english people in Quebec but those from other provinces. If Francophones would stop subsidizing english institution, you would have to close Mcgill, Bishop and half of Concordia. These institutions survives on the back of the exploitation of Quebec people. What would be fair would be to CLOSE THESE INSTITUTION since there is no French university in the ROC. FAIR IS FAIR.
