Always keeping up with your equipment and trying new things will always make you successful, that's why you have the fleet you have. Great episode thanks for sharing safe travels buddy 👍
Tires are the last gear in the transmission and possibly the most important. I absolutely don't recommend cheaping out on tires great video and good information
Don't know about your tires, Justin, but we always ran Michelin on steering because of safety. But, I love that beautiful Pete behind you. 😊 Wish I had been part of your team back in the day. I used to run Rochester, Syracuse, Utica, and Albany. We ran the city, and upstate for 10 solid years. Whirlpool out of Finley Ohio to the city then to union fork and hoe out of Utica back to Ohio. We were running double bunk kw s with cat engines. Did that through the 80's. Like your channel, and have a good day, Justin. Almost forgot about buffalo. Used to deliver all over that state.
@@flintcreektransportHas any driver reported on the Continental steers being a harsher ride and not gripping as well as the Michelin? Some from the rv crowd have said that, I take what they say with a grain of that salt tho
Stone drilling is a issue with any tire with small grooves. I personally like the Bridgestone M726EL for my drive tires. You really have to keep the big rocks picked out when new because they chuck them and smoke the back of the cab unless you run 1/2 fenders.
Continental is a great tire I personally run hankook DL12 16 ply H run equipment up to 126k gross they do great approximately 130k miles on last set. Not bad for running that heavy.
Several months ago, I commented on these tires. Several observations. #1, mileage is on par with the old Bridgestones. #2, many flats as my trucks run gravel roads in Montana. #3, drivers say they get noisy at about 120,000 miles. #4 Fuel economy hasn’t changed as they average 105,500 lbs loaded both ways. #5, definitely cheaper than Bridgestones and Michelins. #6, traction is very good in the rain.
If you get a chance try the Michelin xmed. There’s not siping in the side treads, compared to the xdn2. Comes either 22/32 tread compared to 27/32 on the xdn2. But it’s Softer compound, good traction, and plenty of life out of a set, more mileage then xdn2 we have seen in our application.
i have a tire account with em,all i run are 11 24 and 285 24 XDN2 .. they said they are not making any 24.5’s since covid…. only reason they gave me. i have a 2009 set i need to replace glad you made this video 👍😎
Yes Sir, always good to see you coming out with more tire info. You have a big enough fleet to generate some very good info. The TPMS gear looks like it is developing into a very worthwhile tool. If you can catch a tire going down, you have a chance to save two tires. If you loose a tire to a flat, it’s partner is liable to overheat. Later on that partner tire is subject to explode and maybe hurt someone or do property damage. When you are comparing the various tires, how does their ability to be recapped and their performance after recapping compare? Having the good shop and keeping shocks and suspension up to snuff promotes tire longevity just like keeping them aired up. Thanks for the good video. Keep up the good work. Take care. P.S. See Ezrider359 about a year ago for about 15 minutes about wheel balancing and other maintenance for a real world take on wheel balancing.
In January I started running tpms. It's a valve stem tmps that screws to tpms. It shows psi and temperature for each tire. I would never run without it now. Around $450 for a six tire system, includes the screen for readouts. I run super singles just because they were on truck when I bought it in January. My other truck has standard 22.5 drives and I run a cat eye system on it. I like the tpms way better and know if I picked up something in a tire while driving down the road. I carry a quality plug kit so I can plug a drive tire if necessary and keep going till I get to a shop to repair. Since it shows steers also, short of a blowout I should never be surprised with a flat tire
I have a Freightliner Coronado and I can't get any steer tire wear out of anything but Michelin X line. Get around 200k out of them. I've tried several others. Firestone continental Bridgestone and at most I get 120k out of them. Drive tires I usually run cheap China tires. Those Michelin drives you have in this video are great tires. They wear like iron down till they are wore out but traction really suffers as the get down. I enjoy your videos
continental winter tire looks like a scaled up version of firestone winterforce/bridgestone blizzack.on a one rear wheel drive ford ranger.they made a huge difference in snow under a foot or so.& on dry roads, i lose a little over a mile a gallon to poor rolling resistance, compared to all seasons.there worth the tradeoff.

It all depends how much they are on the breaks,it depends how they turn,if they care and turn short or long, but the big one is breaks!!! Xdn2 is a really nice tire but I run greforce grd1818 tires on my truck they’re of shore tires but they have the same tread pattern as a xdn2 or well very very similar there 16 ply I’ve ran them across Ontario get around 2.5 season out of them hauling heavy got stuck once last winter trying to pull up a hill while turning right in a snow storm hit the inner axle spun the tires few times got some heat in them melted the ice under me and walked up the hill
Junk! We had Roadmaster 15 years ago when they first came out in California. First couple sets were great. After about 5 years, we noticed a lot of uneven wear. Then the sidewalls started splitting all the way around. They said send them back and we would get credit but I’ve yet to see a check! Stay away.
Hi Justin, surprising that Continental drive tire is getting that many miles per thirty second. It doesn’t have center bars. There’s no denying Michelin makes a heck of a drive tire. I’ve found a couple drive tires I used in the past. Firestone makes a good deep tread drive usually comes with 30-31 thirty seconds of tread depth. Yokohama has a couple of fairly decent drives I’ve used usually gotten between 275-325k miles on those drives. They all come in 16 ply too. I did bulk hauling too. But I’ve only been running 80,000 gross. Be interesting seeing your results. Keep up the great work! Stay cool!
@@goldeneagle9761 But Werner uses closed shoulder drive tires those are open shoulder drives. They typically don’t get that much life per thirty second. Those Continentals at 28 thirty seconds will only last about 215,000 miles. A cheap Firestone will last longer than that.
@@darrencatenacci2737 ya I was thinking you was talking about steers because of the video but I realized that he gave the numbers on the continental's but because he hasn't finished his complete analyst of the drives I was assuming you were referring to the steers.

So you don't have to tell us the actual price your getting 😆. All good brother but tires are getting out of hand though.
I used to run Bridgestone for about 15 years. Big mistake. They would either blow out or have irregular wear. I could never get all eight tires full use down to 2/32 ever. Now I’m trying Yokohama. We’ll see. Continental sounds good. I might have to try that.
Almost all the continental tires we try on drives get uneven wear if not properly rotated And sometimes they still get uneven wear ……. Michelin consistently runs even. Right down to no tread. This new continental tire we are trying so far has very even wear …..
You never tried a the Bridgestone M726 EL ? I’ll be honest, I never Rand the XDN2 but the Bridgestone M726 EL is pretty hard to beat but price wise after over 30 years in the business I’ll take the Bridgestone all day long over the XDN2 - for steers I I usually ran Bridgestone or Firestone steers, for what I did I usually got about 125,000 per set out of them, they wear great and really seems to hug the road better than any other steer that I tried, I just never played around when it comes to steers - steers are your life and possibly the lives of others around you
