The latest version of Aeros has beat detection! Great video, thank you for the approach you took to make it.

Hi Andy, What model is that Ibanez nylon string you play in this video? Thanks!

Nice overview! Yes the touchscreen is wondeful as a visual tool, but fragile -- keep it protected, I have one with a busted screen. Also the screen is very hard to read in direct sunlight or with sunglasses, must be shaded if playing outdoors. I live in 6x6 mode so the icons make mores sense as there is less screen real estate. I also had to front-end the device with a 8 channel line level mixer to get all my sources into the looper. I have both the beatbuddy and the Midi Maestro for controls and also added the footswitch to the beatbuddy for a pause/reset. I have yet to play with version 5.x probably will let that software settle until later in the year.

You're correct. Anything digital with a screen is hard to read in outside ....period. I shy away from those products....but that's me.

Aeros is a great looper and is still evolving. Recent software updates have increased its viability. Boos units are great but the Aeros is a different machine. You have to go in realizing that. Keep the Boss even after buying an Aeros.

For less than half the price, I love and will keep my Boss RC500. I use it with my FM9.

I bought an Aeros 12 months ago to use with my beatbuddy. While it is a very powerful tool, it is extremely complicated to use (I still struggle to work out how to record seperate independent tracks). It has a very big learning curve so I do not recommend it for anyone who is not very tech savvy. Singular Sound support is not very good, it’s fine if you are very tech savvy, otherwise it’s minimalistic. Finally, and this is my major criticism, their training videos are poor, so do not rely on them to learn how to tame this beast, you are really on your own. Would I recommend the AEROS? It’s a great machine and would be brilliant if you have many hundreds of hours to figure it out, so the answer is Yes if you are very tech savvy and NO if you are not.

I agree completely. Somebody has to have in -person classes for us non-techie but productive music folks. No retail store in Toronto, Ontario provides such support as yet. Are you listening Cosmo Music, in Richmond Hill, Ontario?

Beat detection (autoquantize) and a lot more is now included in version 5.03. I'm using it here: th-cam.com/video/iyD4Wchn7TA/w-d-xo.html

The "AI" you are referring to (aka time compression and expansion) does exist in loopers. In fact, it has existed for over 20 years, in the Electric Repeater. The Boss RC-600 and RC-505mk II both have this functionality. You create a loop and continue to tap in the tempo, and the loop will chase your meter. Singular Sound is aware of this and it has been a feature they've been promising since day 1. I bought the Aeros before its release (as I did the Beat Buddy back in the day). Singular Sound is just now getting their sh*t together. The Maestro was a paper weight for its first year of existence. A very poor business tactic..."release a product and make it work later via firmware updates". I still have my Aeros, but my RC-600 is my daily driver.

It‘s a great looper, especially now with the updated firmware (5.0?). However, it proved unusable to me as a mainly solo acoustic performer who needed quiet footswitches. So mine is going up for sale here in Germany. I‘d recommend that anybody who buys one nowadays should pay attention to getting the Gold Edition (with silent switches). Feeling penalized, now, by having been an early adopter who pre-ordered the unit back when it was first announced. Waited years for the firmware to get to the (great!) stage it‘s now in, and in hopes the footswitch issue would one day be resolved. But Singular Sound has confirmed to me that swapping the old, loud and clanky switches for the new ones is technically not possible. :-( So on sale it goes…

      @jimflom3735 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I keep the footswitches cleaned and lubed. I don't hear them when playing. Never had anyone mention that noise. I have 3 of them (non-gold version).

    • @scottbecker3485

@@jimflom3735 Happy to hear your switches are apparently quieter. I have recordings I made of mine to demonstrate how loud and clanky they are, complete with a kind of hollow echo sound due to resonances within the unit after a switch is released. Perhaps SS made improvements to subsequent units, with somewhat better switches? My unit was among the very first. At any rate, today somebody bought my Aeros on eBay, so I‘m done with it. Wishing you well with yours, ongoingly. :-)

@@scottbecker3485 Very interesting! If the recordings are available I'd like to hear them. It would be good to compare and see if there are differences. All 3 of my Aeros are less than 2 years old (one has busted screen).

@@jimflom3735 Sure, I‘ll be glad to send you some sound bites to demonstrate how loud and clanky they are/were. How best to reach you directly?

The Boomerang might be worth looking into. You can't save anything , but for me, I don't care. I like the freedom of looping on the fly . With the Boomerang there's no need for worrying about starting/stopping on time with the looper.🎸🎸🎸

Thanks for actually talking about this in a live setting. It seems like every review I find is virtually paid for by singular sound.

Just getting this now - Iwanted it before, but it didn't have a decay function, meaning that overdubs would just get muddy... so I held off. Now of course, today I find the v5 has all the functions I wanted :) Brilliant. Ordered.

Great review! I right now have the digitech jamman. I don’t really use it for live looping. I put a drum part in, save it, put a rhythm guitar part in, save it, put a bass part in and save everything on the sd card. Then I use as backing tracks to play with. The down side is having to play whole song through on all parts without messing up. So my question is, Can you copy and paste the parts once you play? Meaning if I do a verse part on 1st track, and a chorus on 2nd track, can I copy and paste for rest of the song? Thank again, best review seen so far!

Hey there, you can easily lock a track on the Aeros so that it will play in each song part you change to. Just hover over the track, hold down the left button, and press lock track.
