Alan, this video does not have the view count that it deserves. You have done a fantastic job!
I hope we can see a rebuild video series to match, keep up the good work!

Interesting how the rear housing needs that 1/8 turn clock wise to come out. Thanks for doing this.

Alan, congratulations on posting very nearly the only M526 full disassembly video and by far the best. Thanks! Since you've gone so far into this gearbox, I'm wondering if you are aware of the famous M526 deceleration/buzzing noise that many of these gearboxes make. The exact cause, so far as I can find out, has never been pinpointed. Many of have gone to extreme lengths and failed to resolve it. Everything from changing multiple clutches, multiple diffs, realigning engine and PPF and even swapping out gearboxes. If you are aware of the noise, do you knowledge of or a theory on the cause of the decel grinding/buzzing noise?? Typically it occurs only 2, 3, 4, and begins when decelerating from high revs and cuts out at aboue 2200rpm. Disappears completely if the clutch is disengaged/pedal depressed. Personally, I suspect some looseness/vibration in the extension housing rear-most tailshaft brass bushing. I've had chassis ears on a car exhibiting the noise, and this area is definitely where it is loudest by far. Thanks.

Good stuff. Thanks for posting. I really want my transmission to feel like new and instead of buying a used one with questionable use I think I might just rebuild or at the very least put new gasket materials. I'm pretty sure it's leaking

Hi Alan i need your help. i’ve got a 91 import and the part that pivots (where the shifter fits into) has a fair amount of play forwards and backwards. i was wondering if i would be able to replace anything that would make it better. unfortunately i don’t actually know how far down the problem is. it could be a split pin problem or it could be more serious. if you know a common problem with it let me know. thanks
