Takes me back ! Your mastery of piano is overwhelming, Scott, and always was! Congratulations and salutations from Nashville and all the best to you and yours!!
My favourite performance of the Pine Apple Rag on TH-cam - so many people rush the hell out of ragtime, ignoring Joplin's explicit direction to "not rush" on every piece! This is music to be enjoyed, not used as a tool (no pun intended) for some piano dick-measuring contest... Your performance is clean, clear, measured and maintains all that makes ragtime the most expressive and soulful musical style of the piano repertoire. Excellent work, and thank you for sharing with us :)
@scott kirby....you play those scott joplin pieces at a really nice pace and very expressive.....i often here his pieces being played really fast and don't hear much expression in them.....excellent playing!
Perfect speed - not too hurried. And just a bit sassy! You look like you are enjoying yourself, which helps others enjoy it. Great embellishments and improvisation! Are you a professional oianist?
Nicely played sir. You play Joplin's pieces REALLY well. I'd love to hear how you play The Strenuous Life. I often listen to your recordings to help improve my dynamics/expression (and to steal your embellishments lol), and note that you've not uploaded that one. It's Christmas soon, give it some thought :)
Somewhere up there, Scott Joplin has a great big smile! Very nicely done, with some excellent personal flourishes!
Nicely played, and I really like your embellishments. IMO they are tastefully done and breathe new life into this classic.

I love the embellishments you came up with in the B section. A creative and excellent performance overall!
Always witty and charming, Joplin's tunes often end in what sounds like church hymn ending. Subdued performance appreciated.

That's awesome!!!
Thank you. :) I love this one.
Just curious Nr. Kirby,
What kind and year is your piano?
It has great sound and power.?
My guess is it was more hurried in The Sting due to film time constraints.
Actually, the Ragtime in the sting is "The Entertainer
So were Pineapple, Solace, Ragtime Dance, Easy Winners and Gladiolus!
I like your rendition... It's a pity about that chipped piano key. ;)
Great tempo! Please just play the notes that Joplin wrote
