If I have any sort of "talent" it's that I'm pretty patient when it comes to learning and playing songs.

Excellent job (and text). Bruce Thomas surely deserved a spot on those bassist lists that we love to hate. At least, his work should be more well known. Yeah, I usually keep my political views to myself, but I think I really got into it with one fellow on this one. For some reason, "And who are the trusted?" is the line that always chokes me up. I've lost some friends and family along the way. We came really close to the edge of the abyss and I'm amazed that there are still some folks back at it. I've definitely lost some faith in our system. I thought we had more safeguards in place.

I love the pedaling at the beginning of this song. Bruce tricks the listener into thinking that the rest of the song will be the same feel, and then he jumps into his usual melodic style that makes Costello's songs so great.

I'm so happy to hear that you enjoy the videos as I enjoy learning the songs and playing them as accurately as I can. Recording them?...not so much. As far as the political thing goes, perhaps this wasn't the best forum to expose my viewpoint, but I would not take a word of it back. I am privileged - white/male/straight/healthy (aside from the whole cancer thing anyway)...so, for me, it is not a matter of sour-grapes. Four years will come and go like nothing. I'm not afraid of what the administration will do, so much as the fact that the election of this man seems to have legitimized some really backwards points of views. And as much as I do my best to avoid any sort of confrontation in my life, I feel it's my obligation to start calling people out for what they are, what they say, and what they do.

As for the Jazz basses, I've found that they can vary widely in terms of sound and playability and it might be something you'd want to check out in person if you can. It looks like Sweetwater is offering them at the same price and I've found their customer service to be exceptional. Musicians Friend's service may be great as well, I've just never dealt with them.

Well as for fear of Trump, I have to to say one thing. He isn't even sworn into office yet, none of his policies are implemented. While I do no believe that he himself is not terribly racist, xenophobic, or sexist, it is true that he gave the people in this country that are any of those three things a platform that they don't and never should merit. I'm not happy with the results but at this point I am nothing but optimistic but understand others fears especially the groups that you mentioned. I actually believe that Trump may do many good things as far as 'draining the swamp' and getting rid of bad trade deals. And on the bright side, Clinton's popular vote lead has surpassed 2 million votes and many people are saying that she should call for a recount in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania. If they do that and she wins those states in a recount by the slimmest margin, she would be president but I don't think that will happen.
I agree. I don't think he's going to be all that bad and I expect a lot of people who supported him for the wrong reasons are going to be very disappointed. I don't think he's off to a good start with regard to the "swamp draining" based on the people he's surrounding himself with, but that remains to be seen. My issue is with people who think it's ok to now freely express racist, homophobic, xenophobic, sexist...viewpoints without being called out on it. These are things that should never, under any circumstances, be normalized and accepted as proper behaviors. As I've said, I don't have a horse in this race, I'm white, male, straight, employed, healthy...in other words, privileged. If people like me are not going to stand up for those who don't belong to this group, who will?

I do think that we may see something to that effect since he has denounced the Alt Right. It has been made clear through that action and walking back policies like the Muslim ban, torture and probably the border wall that a lot of his rhetoric in the primaries was just that and nothing more. It is sad though that that is a group in America that can be pandered to, thankfully they are definitely in for a rude awakening that Trump doesn't represent them as white nationalists just as a nationalist. I think that it has also been made obvious that he isn't an idiot though he isn't the smartest man in the world he is willing to listen to others around him and change his policies when presented with better ones and facts that render his useless in a sense. And as for draining the swamp I am fairly certain that he has kicked most of the lobbyists out of his transition team though I could be wrong.

My father recently passed away - two days after the election, and I'm convinced it was the outcome that did it, and so hearing this song and reading your words helps. I also have many friends and colleagues who fit into targeted 'categories' and are justifiably frightened, but we will do what we can to resist efforts to diminish human rights. I have been on a kick lately of reading biographies/autobiographies of musicians, and read 'Rough Notes' a few months ago. I thought it was pretty interesting, but could have used some serious editing IMHO. I'd be curious to hear what you think of it. Carrie Brownstein's book was one of the more decent efforts, Kim Gordon's was ok and Chrissie Hynde's a real mess... Hope you and yours had a wonderful Thanksgiving day. Peace to all.

Another disturbing occurrence right now is the DAPL Dakota Access Pipeline. I'm not sure which is more disturbing what's actually happening (illegal police brutality) or the fact nothing is being done about it! I'm surprised Rage Against The Machine isn't doing something to help.
all those poor groups you mentioned have SPECIAL laws and privileges in thier favor....so much for " equality"...when groups that are in the minimum percentile have special privileges ....thats racism defined.
