Could someone explain to me why in all of these turning videos, very few turners will cut the corners off their blanks with their band or table saws (I know they have them because they use them to prep the material) when turning a cylinder at the start of the project? For those that do it appears to save time, reduce clean-up of shavings and reduce chipping of the material when first starting. Not a criticism just a curiosity question.

Hi. If the wood doesn't split, I don't always cut it. This is a 1-minute time from the lathe. 1-2 days before it is ready. The resins can be several.
