I'm currently in the midst of overhauling my IEM Ranking List crinacle.com/rankings/iems/ so these two won't be updated there for now. I know there's a typo in the video so here are the ranks for clarification:

I've been using the Hola for over a week now and i really like them.
Very light and comfortable and the thing i'm most surprised by in terms of sound is how "pleasant" it sounds. No matter which genre of music, gaming, podcasts etc. and even at higher volume nothing ever sounds unpleasant or peaky, it's something i could listen to for days without fatigue.

The hola looks pretty interesting for using 3d printing for mass production, u can actually see some of the artifacts like layers in your close up shots

    • @theJerkson
      @theJerkson ปีที่แล้ว +11

DLP 3d printing is used in lots of IEM's (like the Truthear x Crin Zero) but when you see the layers like that, it looks more like FDM but couldn't be. The layers are only visible on the outer lip, the steep slope facing your ear would normally be the easiest place to see the layer lines, regardless of the orientation they're printed in. Even if printed in small layers (for FDM) at 0.1mm its still much larger than DLP (0.05mm...0.03mm, potentially smaller). Maybe its the post processing that hides most of the layers.
Either way, If they are 3d printed they're not metal, to answer his question. If they were metal they'd be sintered and would have a sandblasted kind of effect, not layer lines.

    • @krazybonnie5523
      @krazybonnie5523 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@theJerkson DLP printers(like any MSLA) still have visible layers & artifacts, which are only visble on a close up shot(way more close up than any human can do unassisted)
u gotta understand how small an IEM is, with standard 50 micron layers, layers are gonna be visible in a macro shot
If u want a more visble artifacts, u can see aliasing on the entire surface too, which is very noticeable to an observant human irl

This is what most have been saying about IEM market recently. The price of entry for a really good IEM have been gotten FAR cheaper than years before, to the point it's now a race to the bottom price-wise. But at the same time, while the budget market is really heating up, the high-end up is really dry with maybe a handful of release every now and then.
So yeah, most of the innovation goes to producing stuff cheaper, instead of pushing the boundary.

1DD + 3BA is a very common config and pretty much the standard for a hybrid, glad to see Truthear did so well with it. Can't wait until Truthear tries some more exotic combos like all BA (mini S8), tribrid (mini variations), or anything involving planar.

I just got my pair of Hola, I'm REALLY impressed for the price.
As someone who is very treble sensitive, I like a warm sound on all of my stuff, and feel like the Hola are the first IEMs to fully work for me.
Neutral sound, sounds great in the presence region without doing too much above.
Bass is tuned very well. It's there but not too much. Mid and upper bass are not too emphasized.
Two small points of criticism though :
    - Bass isn't the highest quality, it's not as tight as I'd like.
Though this have a benefit, the Hola doesn't sound as bass heavy as what the frequency response measurement shows.
    - And the most high end slanted female vocals can lack a bit of air. Probably because of the lack of treble extension.
But for the price it's a no brainer.
I absolutely love the sound signature !

Bought the chu's a few months back. They are still working fine. Now that there are more options i already have some to choose from if they ever break. Im not an enthusiast so i dont have a refined hearing so they are enough for me.
    The chu's so far:
The cable is a similar cable that you get with your phone when you buy a new one. Its not a big problem for me because i've been accustomed to it. One "problem" i got with them is that they are fully metal and collect condensation on the earhole portion so i have to clean it like every 2-3 hours if i want them to sound good and not to clog up later. I dont really mind that, because they were cheap after all and sound miles better than my previous ones. (I also have a lot of earwax so thats also a factor to take in)
Alltogether i just wanted to get some good cheap earphones and i got them. If they ever give up i would just choose another one from the market. And i've already got the spring tips because they came with the chu's. I think it will be at least a few months till they finally break and by then the market will have more options below 50 that sound good.

I appreciate you mentioning that the audiophile community is absolutely breakneck and more than a little ridiculous in the last few years. The Moondrop CHU came out *less than three months ago* and people are already talking about them like they're old news, no longer relevant, and not even worth owning. While, yes, the Hola might be amazing for one dollar less, the Salznotes and CHU and Hola all sound slightly different, and have significant differences in fit, aesthetics, and cabling and all the little things that make a product wearable. While sound is most important, it's good to have variety in the space. Not everyone has the same anatomy or preferences.
It's good that you encourage people to step back and think once in a while. Mindless hype will kill this hobby faster than anything else. People now demand you review IEMs they already bought or preordered to justify their purchase instead of considering what IEMs or cans they actually enjoy and want to keep, and which ones they actually need to purchase. I'll never understand thoughtless, completionist collecting. Thanks for the sanity check.

However, this is mainly my fault because I have fallen asleep while wearing them on campus (am a commuter college student) and fell asleep while wearing them in bed. You can usually find them for $200 or less so you're not quite breaking the bank compared to the rest of a VR setup, the cable is swappable and is 3.5mm standard, the tall, narrow earcup means it won't clank against even bulkier headsets, they're very comfortable for hours on end, and they are quite stable.

Despite having higher end IEMs and open back headphones, I love the starfields and pull them out on occasion for a chill listening experience. Great passive isolation on those with comply foam tips, and they take well to EQ in the high freq to bring out a little more detail/clarity, as they can be veiled up there. I'm treble sensitive though, so the fact hat I find them a little rolled off in the high end might explain why they're so polarizing. They must sound totally dark and muffled to people that aren't treble sensitive. I find 80% of IEMs to be sibilant and spicy in the 7k+ regions without EQ or tip rolling.

the one big issue i see with iem's has to be their physical limitation. they are literally plugs in our ears. theres only so much audio parts that can be shoved into them before they just become in ears. the other issue has to be the health aspect. since they're plugs, they have a higher chance of causing tinnitus, or ear infection.

Why would they have a greater chance of causing tinnitus? Over-ear headphones also vibrate the bones around your ears, and that vibration then travels into your ears. So it seems like headphones have more potential to cause damage. In either case, just don't listen at extreme volumes and you should be fine.

Also, the included small, white eartips are surprisingly comfortable compared to Spinfits and Springtips. With that A+ tuning compared to the Aria's and Titan S's A-, these might just be the $80 king.

    • @david243121

Can you describe what you mean by “better”, in comparison to the T3 plus? I just got the T3 Plus, Aria Snow, Truethear Zero, and HiFi Go Duna Kima. I’ve been going back and forth listening and gaming for the last 2 days. Still working out my thoughts. Bass has the biggest hit on the Zeros. Snow’s seem the brightest and most trebble forward of the bunch. T3 seems to have that mid-bass extension that bringing a fun and ‘louder’ feel to the mix. I’m worried they could get fatiguing after a while with such a lively tuning, and some possibly harsh highs?
Duna Kima seems to maybe be my favorite pick, perhaps- clarity up top without being too harsh, tight bass with juuust enough oomph (similar to the T3… maybe cleaner / less muddy by a TINY fraction?),

I also heard great things about the Spinfit W1.

    • @athenovae
      @athenovae ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@Ausemere hey there! TLDR I am a nooby. I would say save your money for now, and try out all your tips. Keep in mind tip size and changes in sound signature aren’t linear because there is an optimal point between your ear shape, nozzle distance, seal, IEM shape, etc that is unique to you more or less. I also don’t have experience with any ear tips out side of what I got from Chu, Zero, Hola, and Hexa.
The stock wide bores are donut 🍩 shaped rather than egg/dome 🥚🪖 shaped- making them shorter and wider as a result and possibly making the nozzle sit a bit further from your ear canal.
If you do end up getting Spring Tips, by a used Chu for $10 with 3 sizes instead of $13 for a new set of 3 pairs that is only one size.
      ------
So first off I am just a nooby to this hobby. However from my 2 weeks so far with the Hola (and Hexa and my friend’s 7Hz Zero), tips do matter for me and the stock tips didn’t do well for what I was wanting. The fit was fine but the sound signature was a bit too bass-y for my taste. What I’ve found is to increase treble/reduce bass I’d usually use a wider bore, not need as good a seal, and have the nozzle further away from my ear. I’m sure there is more nuance to it than that but I haven’t explored it too deeply yet. Another thing is everyone’s ear shapes/HRTF, hearing sensitivity, and auditory discrimination are different so what I find to have a certain amount of effect may not be the same for you. Side note I recently found out I have random episodes of hyperacusis so my sensitivity changes. Before I was aware of that, my perception of sounds and my preferences for a sound signature would unknowingly change to accommodate for it and that messed with my experiments. 😅
Anyway up until right now, I’ve been using the Large Spring Tips for a couple days and I did note it being “dark-bright” (meaning some parts of it bright but others not so much), with a thinner bass. Keep in mind all these different tunes are with in a margin of 5db or so if tilt from the 7Hz Zero. So it’s a very tight line to straddle. A little bit here and smidge there really differentiates these models. So a thinner bass would probably be maybe 1-2 db less than before, tho I don’t have a rig to measure. Over all a very relaxing experience.
Just now however, I tested the XL, L, and M Wide bore stock tip and it has a good amount of bass but also a lot more note weight and sparkle to it - with the L one having the most sparkle. The wide bore unlike the narrow ones are donut shaped rather than egg shaped. Idk why there’s a good amount of bass but also having higher note weight and brighter treble but probably the combination of ear shape, nozzle distance, and amount of seal I have.
Before I recognized there was an optimum combination, I was so confused when I tried tips and the extremes (S and XL or L in other cases) didn’t give me quite as different a sound as I thought it would.
Also also the shell design also has something to do with the acoustics we experience. For example the 7Hz Zero wide bore gives more bass than the narrow one provided which is opposite from what we would expect, suggesting it’s the IEM design. Additionally, using an even wider bore (4mm->5.5mm) reduces the amount of bass for me which was interesting.
I don’t have any tip’s outside of the ones I have from my IEMs (except sets from 15 year old random earphones I find lying around) so unfortunately I don’t know much about SpinFits or KBears.

yo crin, you should consider focusing on wireless iem and make a dedicated rank list.
wireless iem actually has a big consumer more than average wired iem.

Have you tried AIAIAI, Heada(mame), and/or Ploopy Headphones yet? Please review them, especially AIAIAI with its combinations. Would love to see how it measures

Hi Crin, before all nice review.
Could you help me with this problem please?
A few days ago my TE Hexa arrived and from the first moment I started using them I felt a slight pressure in my head, by the evening I already had a headache. I have been told that it could be pressure build up and to try to open my mouth and pull up my ear to open the ear canal, I have even tried to insert them as little as possible. I also tried different silicone tips or foam tips (I tried the ones I usually use with my other IEMs) and reducing the treble with EQ as I have read that people are sensitive to these but it didn't work out either. This same thing happened to me with the 7hz Zero (I found another person who has the same problem with these).
Every day I use the Wan'er practically all day on the computer and before these I used the Chu and CCA CRA without any problem or need to do the above steps. I have thought about whether I might have some kind of sensitivity to the magnets that the Hexa and 7hz Zero use or something but I don't even know if such a thing exists but if so, is there any way to identify which IEMs I am likely to have this same issue with?
Today after the last test with the same result I am about to return the Hexa after asking and investigating without finding anything to solve it.
Sorry for so much text and thanks.

@@mSarimaa I don't think this is the case, as I have tried using the Hexa without plugging them in for a while and I don't feel the discomfort already described.
I have also used the Kiwi Ears Cadenza whose nozzle is similar in size and I didn't have this problem.

The same thing happened to me, well my head was throbbing, I was using a rubber band that wasn't my size, I was using the largest size, I normally use the medium to see the difference, I went back to my medium rubber bands, I don't know if you returned it, could I? balance him and lower his means, PS. I went through with some KZ zsn pro, recently I entered the audiophile world and I did a 3-day burning process on these ims, and the result was that I feel that they increased at least 6 decibels, using a Fiio ka5 dac dongle

I got some Holas, and they're actually really really good. Way better than Moondrop Chus, which are also good value, but 3x heavier and constantly fall out.

This is probably an overheard and already answered question, but in your own opinion what are the best IEMs for 'competitive' gaming. Things like Valorant or Apex, around the $300~ range.

Looking for budget iem, £50, for mixing and mastering when I'm out and stuck in a coffee shop so what would be a good recommendation, should it be neutral or eq'd to neutral? Thanks in advance.

Hey Crin you forgot about the VK4s- they were good pre-revision, like REALLY good. I still treasure my pair, even though I’ve largely moved on to bigger and better IEMs.

I still have a vk4 og, funny enough I pitted them against the cca's few days ago going through old gear. They surely don't get the same amount of appraisal as the cca cra did. They completely annihilated the cca's in every department.

I am kinda late to the party but now which one is better between:
    Salnotes Zero
    Tangzu Wan'Er
    Truthear Hola
Buying in a pretty large quantities for gift. Salnotes zero is cheaper than Wan'Er and Truthear Hola is the most expensive (I live in SEA, the prices are upside down here). Well the price difference of each other is just about a meal at McD tho.

Hello, 1 question, do we still need an external dac to improve the sounds further for gaming?
