      @@asadasaad3079 crushing dogmatic atheism is easy. Crushing the more common atheism of the educated and intelligent is a very different story.
      The strength of one's beliefs should, as much as possible, be proportional to the strength of the evidence.
      Even Richard Dawkins describes himself as a 6 on a scale from 1(I know god exists) to 7(I know god doesn't exist)....dogmatic atheist? No.
      It wouldn't surprise me if Berlinsky went after low hanging fruit like dogmatic atheism.
      Peterson seems to have a little more dignity than to tackle such virtual strawmen.

      @@Leehamism There is no amount of evidence that could satisfy the implacable dogmatic beliefs in non-evidenced metaphysical beings in so far as multiple branches of evidence-based science have made impressive gains in knowledge, all of which point towards the same conclusion that Evolution is no longer disputable.

      Yes, we are. Maybe we don't quite behave the same way (some of us!) but we are part and parcel of the animal kingdom and share many characteristics. That is the only way you can explain the behaviour of the deviants in the world. As we are part of the animal kingdom we will eventually go the way of the dodo or the pterodactyl...and that's fine by me. What's this nonsense about wanting to "live forever" or ensure the existence of my soul after death?? You can make up whatever stories you like about an existence after the one here on planet Earth but it's quite meaningless to me six feet under. The only issue in all this discussion is to use our meagre existence to make the mess that humans create a little less messy. In other words, it's the most ancient of Jewish philosophies: "Tikkun Olam" - make the world a better place by your actions and life. You don't need to ask "Why?" to do that.

      H MAX uhh... no it can’t. That goes against the laws of thermodynamics, because energy is traceable to a beginning. And there is overwhelming evidence of the universe having a beginning. The satellite, WMAP shows a diagram when if put in rewind, the energy retracts and goes to one source.

    • @thatonegamer9547
      @thatonegamer9547 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      H MAX well the requirements are 1.) Needs to be timeless because it created time, 2.) needs to be immaterial because it created matter, 3.) Must be all powerful because it created out of nothing, 4.) Must be intelligent because of the way the universe is designed, and 5.) Must be showing signs of morals because these morals are what drive us to live the way we do. And if you go for the multiverse argument, it would only increase the need significantly. Because the current assumption even though there’s no evidence of the multiverse, is that out of all of the other universes, ours is the only life sustaining one. So this would have to give meaning, and it would also have to be created.

    • @chloegilbert647
      @chloegilbert647 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      H MAX> There is plenty of evidence of God...just look around you. Everything that man hasn't screwed up is a miracle. For example, with out a Creator, explain how a giant oak tree comes from a tiny acorn? The Universe is so complex and ordered that it couldn't possibly have happened by accident. It is up to you to explain that there is NOT a God. Prove it by creating something from nothing...something that has never been in existence before.
      You can't do it....only God can.

    Science has nothing to say about God directly. It looks for physical explanations for physical events. "God" or "gods" is not an acceptable scientific explanation for physical events because it cannot be tested or verified. Science is not engaged in philosophy either. You are perfectly fine to posit that a god or gods created the universe. You'll just find it hard to write a scientific paper about it. I love how disingenuous Berlinski is - he conflates science with philosophy and goes back and forth between them when it suits his narrative. The fact is their are scientists who believe in god and their are scientists who dont, but science itself as a process of inquiry has nothing empirical to say about either position. Intelligent design cant even say if theres 1 designer, or 1,000,000. How could you SCIENTIFICALLY test that?

      Unless I've misinterpreted you, I think you've made a fundamental mistake in understanding Berlinski's point. You say "not accessible to us yet". But the point is that fundamental questions are not accessible to the methods of science at all. Science cannot, in principle, answer questions of meaning because it presumes them; it cannot answer questions of first principles, or "laws of nature", because it presumes them. And what is science doing by positing frictionless planes and idealized conditions that don't actually exist except seeking the nature of things.
      To posit that science can answer metaphysical questions--rather than acknowledge science as a tool of ultimately metaphysical quest--is to get the whole thing exactly backward.

      Berlinski's anti-evolution stance is not a theory at all. He, nor anyone else from the Christian based Discovery Institute, can explain the laryngeal nerve in the giraffe. They just don't mention it. No one there can explain how a team of true scientists, through a multi-discipline approach, could predict the exact spot of the Tiktaalik, an intermediate species between fish and amphibian that existed 375 million years ago. On the other hand, proponents of Intelligent Design have not offered up anything to our understanding save for the denial of true science, have not offered any prediction that could facilitate a discovery on the level of the Tiktaalik, and have not advanced their own science in any positive direction other than to say that mainstream science is wrong. You can't build a theory on the denial of another theory.

    Evolution is a fact. Republicans must embrace this and move on from there. Evolution does not mean we need to throw away values. These values are not based on fear, as in you will go to hell or be punished by God's curse on your life (aka bad luck) if you do not embrace values. It is Common Law that keeps us lawful, not a God. If you disagree then you haven't done your homework, Our laws came from Cicero's ideas, who, by the way, worshiped Lucifer, a Roman God.

      one of thousands of creation myths.

    • @loricalass4068
      @loricalass4068 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Those who support evolution and/or atheism too often like to paint a stereotype of Christians as low I.Q. science illiterates. At the same time they are smugly convinced that THEY ain't religious. But they are. Profoundly so. Why? Because they have great....faith...in the never seen and even in the impossible. Yet they feel sure they are all about science and that creationists have nothing but an Imaginary Friend.
      .
      Let's look at just a few of the imaginary friends and myths from evolutionism and atheism. First there is the belief in the imaginary time fairy friend. Evolutionists promote the idea that life can come from inorganic matter. (And don't say they do not. It's easily found all over Google and on YT. Who came up with the mythical primal pond theory? Creationists?) When it is pointed out that all the data shows life only comes from life and life of the same kind they respond "Well, with enough tiiiiime, anything can happen. We have...faith...therefore, that things happened differently in the conveniently invisible past."
      .
      They have faith, too, in their imaginary crystal ball friend that sees into the unverifiable past. For ex. they will pick up a fossil from a rock and tell you what happened to its invisible and evidenceless descendants for over 100 million Darwin years. They also talk about 'missing' links, more of their imaginary friends. Don't bother to ask how you tell missing links from never existed links. They have...faith...that they are just "missing."
      .
      Next we see the imaginary Geologic Column friend that "supports" evolution. The real evidence shows the fossils are jumbled. Giant shark fossils are found with dino fossils in Montana, for ex. Whales' fossils are found in wildly improbable places like the Andes mountains and the Sahara desert. Deep sea "Cambrian" fossils are found at every level on the planet, including on most mountain tops, as with the world's highest, the Himalayans. Take a look. Notice the one in the middle, 2nd row, that is an ocean floor dwelling, extinct, trilobite. www.bing.com/images/search?q=Marine+Fossils+On+Mountains&FORM=RESTAB )
      .
      "Cambrian" fossils, like ocean floor trilobites, are found in the hills of Kentucky and countless other places on the planet, high and far, inland. Etc. Now why do we see evidence of sea life all over the planet at every level? And, how did all that sea get everywhere? Hmmmm....
      And btw, oceans don't, and can't, create fossils. Fossils are created when life forms are rapidly buried - so that animals can't eat them and natural forces can't erode them and the chemistry of fossilization can take place. There are no fossils anywhere in the oceans, or even after such things as local floods and tsunamis.
      .
      Next, there is the imaginary genus-changing fairy friend. Put a species of fish, bird, lizard, tree, bacteria, whatever, under your Darwinian pillow. Voila! Over an evolutionary "night" it will change into the next step up in the Animal (ditto for plants) Kingdom, i.e. a different genus. However, in the real world of trillions of life forms, and throughout recorded history, there is not a single example of any species of fish, bird, lizard, bacteria, tree, or any life form at all, turning into a different genus and stop being a fish, bird, bacteria, tree, etc. Since all the evidence shows that never happens, you just have to have... faith ... that it happened in the unverifiable realm of the ancient past.
      .
      Then there is the supremely imaginary god-friend of nothingness. Richard Dawkins and others tell us that everything came from nothing. This defies the laws of thermodynamics and physics, not to mention common sense. But their imaginary friend, the nothingness god, sells big time to those who want to believe they can be their own, puny, little gods.
      .
      Are you willing to take a serious and open minded look outside the box? If nothing else you can hear what the creationists are really saying, not the spin about what they are saying.
      .
      On this webpage you can see Nobel Prize winning scientists, other secular scientists - including some world famous evolutionists - admitting there is no evidence for evolution. You can see them calling evolution a kind of religion, something that leads to "anti knowledge", etc. Notice how many of these secular scientists acknowledge evidence for a Creator. freerepublic.com/focus/f-bloggers/1435562/posts
      .
      Are you aware that more and more blood cells, blood vessels and soft stretchy materials are being found in dino bones? Forensic science and common sense tell us such things could not last for more than a few thousand years. Go to Genesispark to see ancient art depictions of dinos from around the world. My fave is the stegosaurus carved on a 1,000 year old Cambodian temple. That site has lots of info on soft tissues and blood cells being found in dino bones, and historical reports of dino type creatures, including some from the famous historian Herodotus and from Alexander the Great. All information is gleaned from secular sources. www.genesispark.com/exhibits/evidence/historical/ancient/dinosaur/

      Physicist Dr. Russell Humphreys gives scientific evidences for why people believe in a young, yes young, earth. Check it out and see: th-cam.com/video/tX9eDTNfQHY/w-d-xo.html Part 1 And regarding the speed of light "problem", there are many unproven assumptions about light. It was always assumed, for instance, that the speed of light was constant. Now some secular scientists are saying it is slowing down. However, here is another perspective. We have found that space, as in outer space, is stretchy. Several times in the Bible we are told that the Almighty stretched out the Heavens. This would mean the light from stars got stretched out, too, thus creating a false impression of distant time for light travel.

      Lorica Lass I like how you are able to genuinely equate your 8 paragraphs of drivel as "science." Here's what you do in basically all your comments: you name a person, and then say "this person is smart and thinks evolution is a myth, so haha you're all wrong." If I searched hard enough I could probably find someone who thinks 9/11 was a good thing to happen to the country. Yet, we consider that person wrong because the overwhelming majority of people, as well as data surrounding the event, refute it. So while I'm sure there's a handful of people, maybe even some smart people, that think the Earth is Young, global warming is bs, and evolution is a myth, there is such an overwhelming supply of intelligent scientists, records, weather patterns, and carbon dating that tell us these socalled "smart people" are wrong, that to cling so tightly to a clearly defunct fictional theory is nothing short of delusional.

    Congratulations on your courage to address this issue, which few understand, but which lies at the very center of man's existence. Those who choose God ... by and large ... live positive, purposeful lives powered by hope beyond this short span of life. Those who deny God start and end with pointless lives, without hope or purpose, and a tendency towards all things negative. As God has so eloquently put it ...
    HEBREWS 4:12 King James Version
    "For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart." And consequentially to the life that flows from that inner condition.

College is no longer a place for learning or intellectual discussion, nor for challenging ingrained, pervasive, institutional orthodoxy. Neither are they laboratories for the advancement of science, for the advancement of science itself NECESSARILY requires free & bold challenge to currently held belief systems. And that is no longer permitted on today’s liberal progressive campuses. It's very easy to ascribe motivations to evolution, "The animal evolved this way because it served some purpose for it." I've done it myself sometimes, when I'm being rather lazy. However, those who think about evolution in a disciplined way see it as the result of processes, not motivations. The giraffe doesn't grow a long neck because "It wanted to reach the tops of trees." Its changing traits, from generation to generation, developed it to have a long neck, and *as a result*, in its foraging behavior, it found it could reach the tops of trees, and exploited that ability, which gave it some advantage, such that the collection of traits that enabled that physical development were passed along to enough offspring that the collection of traits survived.
    Current evolutionary theory ascribes no control over either an organism's own physical development, nor of its progeny, upon which the process is acting.

Giraffes evolved long necks for high browsing, among other minor things, it wasn't a choicem they didn't choose it, but that aside, they developed this adaptation as no other organisms were taking this niche in their ecosystems, and once they have taken that role, no other animals in their enviroment will as there will be competition among them. But long necks have evolved in different lineages across time, such as the sauropod dinosaurs, camels in ancient florida, etc.

I have eight college years of hard science, biology, chemistry, physics etc. After watching this short video...what a disappointment. Frankly I couldn't believe my ears. "A giraffe developed a long neck because he wanted to reach the leaves on the top of trees."? Really? "A small animal did not develop a long neck, kept eating low hanging leaves, because he didn't want to eat the leaves at the top"??? Are you serious? If this is his best argument against evolution....well I'll stop here because I do not want to insult anyone. But Wow! How about considering that the success of each different species depended on developing their own successful niche.

    Theories on the origin of the universe are all over the place, and none are testable. Still that does not mean that the explanation will be made clear by the interjection of a god, or some sort of sentience with a mission. Truth is all that matters for me, and it must be self-evident. The extreme distance of the furthest galaxies makes me wonder even if the big bang theory has full merit. The universe may simply be infinite in age.

    The Jew Levin talks with the Jew Berlinsky who locates the triumph of a religiously intolerant scientism in the last 30 years without talking about the Jew Freud who began the process of pathologizing religious belief at the beginning of the last century with his own pseudo-science in such works as "The Future Of An Illusion."

    Science is a language and technique that we use to discern the nature of the phenomena by which we are surrounded. It has nothing to do with religion one way or the other. It does not investigate questions about God. It works in the area of the natural only, and has nothing to do with, or say about, the supernatural. Religion seems more to be an epiphenomenon of human consciousness, and has more to do with the emotions than with the brute facts of the world of reality being explored by science. The fact that a majority of people engaged in the sciences are of atheist or agnostical bent is a sociological phenomenon, one that is of interest to some philosophers, but not all. And so only to those can the existence or nonexistence of God be a philosophical question..
