  • On Demand / Heat Pump Combi System
Listen to Paul and Gerry from PJB Mechanical Plumbing, Heating & Cooling in Delta, BC as they walk through an installation of a heat pump combination system.
    These QUESTIONS are addressed:
What is the functionality of this unit and how it works?
How much does it cost to use one of these units?
Why is this cheaper than other electric heat?
Can you talk about the components inside the house and how they work with the unit outside?
How does this heat pump unit work when it gets really cold in Vancouver Canada?
How is this system controlled - is there an app?
A York inverter heat pump unit is on the exterior of the home. On hot summer days, it also functions as an air conditioner. You have cooling and really efficient heating from the unit as well. It can be set up on an "economic balance point" which means you'll have the lowest possible operating costs. Electric heat can be very expensive, but this type of electric heat is up to three times more efficient than traditional baseboard heaters because it is moving heat from one place to another, rather than creating heat.
They also walk through interior mechanical room of the house. Here the heat pump and the hyrdronic air handler unit, which is powered by the tankless water heater, all work together. There is no compromise for comfort. The on-demand hot water system heats water for the house AND provides back up heat for the home.
The homeowner manages the system by simple type of thermostat with up and down controls and an app is available. It can be programmed - set and forget it.
