Subtitles fixed, and chapters added, yay!!! FAQ time! Q: "Who was the voice of Dess?" A: Dess aka December Holiday was voiced by Penguin! You can find her cool work here! www.youtube.com/@penguinpowerful7/featured Diddly dang, I put it in the description and the video, yet the info still got lost somehow? This is what I get for not reading it out loud, me thinks! Q: Wh- A: While we're at it, the voice of Spamton was Everude. Q: "Okay but hear me out, what if, instead of Baldur's Gate 3, you do other video games! Have you considered...." A: Listen bud, I don't control the weird impulses that drive me to make videos. I'm at their mercy just as much as the rest of you. I understand if you don't want to watch the Baldur's Gate ones though... the game has a lot of good things I want to talk about, but also a lot of bad things that might make you uncomfortable, so I understand if it's not your cup of tea. I'll try to make those videos fun and accessible even if you don't like BG3, though! Uhhh I felt like there would be more for the FAQ but mostly the comments are full of wholesomeness. Haha, oops! It's like being hugged by words. Thank you all for the warmth. Winter always wrecks me.
New theory about who the knight and/or final antagonist is: The absolute villain who approved the spelling bee word list with the word "December" in there. It's a small town, it's not like they just didn't know.
I guess the spelling bee took place in a different town and the organisers were never told about December's disappearance. It's still very harsh and unfair though!
@@feliciaroseantonia It would be sad if true, but perhaps this kind of thing happened to Toby Fox, or somebody else on the development team, to inspire this plot point.
Read a fic where an organizer just, randomly picked it from a set of national spelling bee words (which, is how it works in real life - "December" is listed under challenging words for 3rd graders in the Scripps National Spelling Bee) Just, true random chance. Thinking about a specific finalist's trauma can be the last thing on someone's mind, you know?
About the 2583 days thing, on a numpad the position of those numbers are... 7 *8* 9 4 *5* 6 1 *2* *3* ...they make an L shape, the same shape that a _knight_ moves in chess. Yeah I think I'm actually going insane with these speculations.
all of those numbers are next to 6 6 is related to gaster because battle stats 6 and 4 are the numbers with the most neighbors there 4 is related to death in chinese there are 4 major agreed upon noncanon things about gaster: the void fell into the core related to sans is mysteryman
also there are 3 neighbors of 4 and 3 major candidates for the knight that people believe gaster kris berdly (i guess) this isnt meant to be believable, its meant to be fun
The red guitar thing is interesting, because Ralsei's default scarf is considered red despite being obviously pink, so I guess Toby's idea of red is fairly encompassing.
@@CyborusYTthat reminds me...where did i leave my dreamventure samsung note and my motivation to learn coding and basic modelling just to make a game i found in a particularly memorable dream?
About the red guitar: ive noticed deltarune sort of avoids literally using the colour red in a lot of cases. Ralseis scarf is very clearly pink but is called red. Ans i think that implies kris's shoulder thing is red too, just maybe the lighting of the dark world distorts or tints colours. So the guitar is "red" like ralseis scarf, even if its literslly coloured orange.
Could Kris be colorblind to red? We know their eyes are red, but maybe they don't care for the rarity of such a color due to they can't see it. Or maybe it is their isn't any other humans around town to compare to.
I had no clue that Noelle reacted to unused items! She even says “unused?!” I wonder if Noelle’s knack for breaking games/seeing things she really shouldn’t is related to Dess’s disappearance. It seems like Toby Fox is setting up for something like that, but I honestly can never tell what direction he’s taking his stories in and I could be incredibly wrong
When I tell you I GASPED when I saw this pop up in my suggested. WHAAAAAAAAT. Oh my god, the Deltarune theorists are going wild, and I mean this with UTMOST respect. That entire 2583 section is insane, that's mind-blowing, what the hell. I had no idea that Spamton's mention of 94 also worked like that, that's brilliant.
If the Holidays are based on reindeer, the males are the ones who lose their antlers in the fall and the females have them throughout winter until spring. Females have antlers longer than the males, but at the same time, the Holidays are Monsters, not animals (Animalia, humans included) so applying real life logic directly to them is iffy both ways. You just don't really know, just like how Gerson is a turtle-inspired Monster, not a real turtle, how Muffet is a spider-inspired Monster, not an actual spider, or how plants have cognition irl while "flowers" are portrayed as "soulless" in the game.
AHAHAHAHAHAHA yeah when I calibrated my screen by using Intel's Graphics Centre and messed with the gamma, I ended up completely losing the ability to see some colour changes because they were washed out, while my blue light filter makes everything a bit warmer (otherwise I get a headache). I turned up the lightness but increased saturation which at one point made it nearly impossible for me to see some issues in an art piece I was making so I had to recolour it. It's possible that Toby has a blue light filter turned on but screens vary sooo much, it's hilarious, I love my screen because it's one of the best ones I've ever seen so whenever I switch to another device, I cringe. I know this isn't really that important but I love the idea of Toby using oranges (or in this case Vermilion which I personally consider a hue of red) and being like "yep, bright red!"
If Deltarune's chapter One takes place when the "survey program" was revealed to us in 2018, those 2500+ days goes back to 2011. When did Toby have that fever dream again? 2011.
@@TheSkyGuy77there’s also a song in the soundtrack, April 2012, there’s prob a dif reason for its name, but that’s pretty close to when it all started, huh.
20:02 This has nothing do with anything at all but I thought I'd point out, at the end of chapter 2 in Castle Town when talking to the swatchling in the café he says "* Good evening, boss. Today's meal is Crisped #E23D28." which is a reddish orange, idk just wanted to point it out
Always liked to think that the Holiday family has some Halloween themed cousins, and that the older brother is named October and goes by Tobe as a nickname.
Man I missed these so much! Also 17:52 technically noelle was contacted by spamton before, and maybe the yellow-pink glasses make an appearance in his spam emails he sends, or something like that. I think spamton contacting noelle previously is what this is supposed to imply.
@@waffler-yz3gwShe did not! She got a white egg (you know. an Egg. Which has significant lore implications given how important the Egg man seems to be) from Spamton (which implies the Egg man and Spamton are connected in some way)
I’m pretty the reason why Asriel won’t ever return the how to draw dragons book is because of the scantily clad dragons on the cover.. returning it would be embarrassing, not because it’s sentimental
That is an easy and funny explanation, but it makes me wonder why a younger Asriel was confident (or shameless) enough to get the book out in the first place if he'd later be too embarrased to ever return it.
@Pikachu-wk2uz I always read it as Toriel not approving of the book. Like she confiscated it from Asriel and keeps it locked up and won't return it because nobody should have such a book/ a book like that doesn't belong in a public library.
I’m gonna be real, I’m pretty sure Asriel just found the dragons hot based on the description and didn’t want to return it partly out of embarassment. Asriel is a scalie.
That's what I assumed, but now Halfbread's pointed out that Toriel is aware of the situation... I'm not sure it makes sense for Toriel to be a willing accomplice here if that's true. (or if it's not, really, without further factors)
@hackjob I actually recently about the, uh, potentially dirty connotation of the dragon book, and ive been aware of that lore for awhile. I didn't know that toriel was aware of it either. However, I dont think shes an accomplice, nor do I think shes nostalgic, but I think she must have caught asriel with the book, and realized that her goody two shoes son, isnt so uh, clean after all, and decided to keep the book so no one could find out about asriels, uh, questionable side. Of course, along side that, she also in general probably doesn't want "another poor soul being tempted into asriels fate" lol.
When you pointed out that all the Dess dialogue disappears on the weird route, I had to take a minute, stopping the video and staring at a wall. It's very interesting... Welcome back. You're my favorite Deltarune channel, so I'm glad to know you had a nice break and ready to strike with some cool theorycrafting :)
Watching you lose your mind over trying to figure out and find out where on earth is December "Dess" Holiday in Deltarune brought me so much joy to see you back once again! (Love your content man, and I'm hoping you will continue to make more of these interesting theories on this game and with that I'm off to bed goodnight my SWEET bread boy!)
Fun fact: he's the only theorist who survived the mental illness called gasterovirusovira, which often ends up with making the theorist see absolutely nothing and keep yapping about Gaster. It seems like HalfBreadChaos survived this illness, making them: 1: the best Undertale/Deltarune theorist ever 2: the only Undertale/Deltarune theorist ever
I think TH-cam ate the last comment, but thanks for the shoutout! :O Tbh, it was nice to see a more up to date Dess video that compiled everything, and the stuff about unused item reactions from Noelle is fascinating. It reminds me a lot of how she has ties to creepypasta and glitch hunting.
I want to mention a thought I had and see if anyone has counter points. I think Rudy will die in Chapter 5, on a Sunday when Noelle intended to go to church with him. That's based solely on the fact that Alphys in Ch2's epilogue that there is no school the next day and Ch5 feels like a good place pace wise for such a major plot point. I believe Ch2 is Friday, Ch3 will be Friday night/Saturday morning, and Ch4 a Saturday leaving Ch5 as Sunday. It seams wise for Toby to make most of the game happen over the weekend so he doesn't have to keep making excuses for Kris and Susie to escape school. I assume as well that Ch6 (Monday) will be the festival and when Azzy comes home (fulfilling Toriel's 'next week' line) and Ch7 is the roaring (Yes the roaring will happen, anyone saying otherwise can stare down the barrel of Chekhov's Gun!)
8:37 Correction. For most deer, only the males grow antlers. Reindeer are an exception where both males and females grow antlers. Also, Reindeer don't shed their antlers at "any time". Reindeer grow/shed their antlers at specific times of year, and this is different depending on the Reindeer's sex. (Male reindeer grow them in spring and shed them in fall, while females keep their antlers during the winter.) Some people use this as evidence for the trans-Noelle headcanon (bc Noelle has antlers and Dess doesn't), but hormones are what determines when antlers grow/are shed, so if Noelle was medically transitioning, she wouldn't have an AMAB antler cycle because of her hormones. Then again, maybe that quote from Sans wasn't supposed to imply that Dess lacks Antlers. Also, the above is assuming that the Holiday's are reindeer monsters and that reindeer monsters shed their antlers like real reindeer. You are still right in that we don't know, and we shouldn't get into angry arguments over whether Dess has antlers or not.. (Lol, I already made a post about this on Tumblr.)
I've always kinda been confused why people assume Dess doesn't have horns. It'd be very weird phrasing to say "that antlered girl and her antlered big sis.", given how it's implied they're the same kind of monster by the fact they're related. Unless I'm mistaken we've only ever seen monster families consisting of the same kind of monsters (like Asriel being the child of two goat monsters, Catty being the child of two cat monsters, or Snowdrake being the child of two ice drakes).
@@frenchorangeI think what people speculating is that Dess is also a reindeer monster but just doesn't have Antlers (for whatever reason.) Personally think the quote from sans doesn't really confirm or deny if Dess has antlers or not (like I mentioned in the comment above)
I'm not sure we can apply "hormones" theory to that. Monsters most likely don't have same structure as humans do, perhaps its something to do with emotions?
Bro. You always make the best deltarune theories ever. You take a lot of time and dive deep into the code just to cover any secrets. You got me questioning myself and my whole existence. Thanks for everything.👍
Nothing wrong with getting sucked into the endless, swirling and everhungry vortex of a quality game, glad to have you back but I'm also glad you had fun with BG3
i could never have roommates bc they would be hearing me babble about “noelle holiday knows about unused items? noelle holiday knows about unused items. *noelle holiday knows about unused items*” at 5am
21:31 if ice-e ate dess wouldn't that make it the bite of 87 but in deltarune? wait wait wait theres also a bite of 83 in fnaf right? so wait theoretically it would be the bite of 83, and you know where 83 is used? 2583 days. 25 = dess.. WAIT isn't ice-e the mascot of a pizzeria? HOLY SHIT fnaf lore is canon to deltarune i guess
17:09 hear me out, Dess got stuck in a dark world and the reason Kris is opening dark worlds is because they are looking for Dess, if you look at all the locations dark worlds have been created they all are somewhat important to Dess (The Dreemer house because she was good friends with Asreal, or dating, the library because of the book, and the classroom is a bit of a stretch but Dess and Asreal could of gone to kindergarten there because we don’t know when the classroom was closed), and time moves normally when you are in a dark world.
Sorry, I have another comment now on the entire video. 13:23 I decided to spend way too much time trying to find spelling bees by grade that have December. (and because of the date, it made me feel like Noelle Holiday finding spelling bees IN December) and I found December in spelling bees from grades 3 to 5. The “One Bee Study Words for Third Grade 2020-2021” listed December as a “challenging third-grade word,” So Noelle was likely in the third or second grade when that spelling bee happened, and Dess disappeared before that. (Also, I personally think Susie likely arrived after Azzy left for college, seeing as her dialogue in the cyber world, I think, implies she hasn’t met him.) 17:54 for dealmaker I think its safe to assume it reminds her of the Spamton spam email ads she got. Anyway, another great video.
Gla you're back; and excellent video as always - you're always able to bring new discussion to the table! Those aren't even the only instances of orange/red ambiguity in the franchise - I remember watching PointCrow's first-time playthrough, where he got confused over the ruins puzzle to "press the red switch" when he saw the switch as orange instead whoever did that noelle voice must be really cool
When you speak to Undyne about the Dark World in ch. 1, Kris apparently tries to warn her about the "portal," that "more are appearing," and that "someone might fall inside." I can't help but suspect that this may be exactly what happened to Dess: she fell into a portal to a Dark World (in the shelter, by the lake, or otherwise). And without a human SOUL that is apparently needed to seal a fountain, she'd be stuck there... Also Noelle's reaction to the DealMaker has led me to the headcanon that Dess wears glasses.
Considering that back in UT Sans and Papyrus' snow figures were signed and painted with a red marker (that looks exactly as orange as everything in Papyrus' sprite) it's pretty safe to say that Paps color is reed
“WATCH ALL OF HBC'S VIDEOS NOW THEY ARE THE BEST THEYRE THE DELTARUNE THEORIST EVER” “Why haven't they posted in 3 months rhis is so sad” “YEAH BUT HOPEFULLY THEY HAVE SOMETHING AMAZINF PLANNED” - me and my friend's dms just an hour before this was uploaded (CAN YOU IMAGINE THE SHOCK WHEN I SAW THAT YOU UPLOADED HAJSHA)
Side note. I feel like the "2583"s 83 definitely is referring to ヤミ(yami). Usually, a number refers to one hiragana character, like the "わた94" example. A list of pronunciations are as follows: 1: い(i) 2: に/ふ(ni/fu) 3: み(mi) 4. し/よ(shi or yo) 5. ご (go) 6.ろく/む (roku/mu) 7. なな/しち(nana/shichi) 8. は, ぱ, や (ha,pa,ya) and 9. く (ku). Judging by the list, it should mean やみ, which means dark and evilness.
My theory about Dess: Gaster decided to catch a random character in the game files, because he wants to player because interested in him and his game. Remember what 1_2_3abc in Undertale said? Yes, Gaster wants us to be interested, so knowing that player will go into game files he decided to make a little "mystery" with a random known to us character, and to be 100% sure player will be interested, Gaster choose a side character, who is so far from us, but in the same time very close (as Noelle's sister). Gaster even says "Bro, find her, find her! Be interested! Be prepared!" In the name of her soundtrack.
I recently started binge watching some of your older videos, glad this came up just now :3 I love this channel and the way you present videos so I just wanted to say Thanks ;3 Thanks for your great content ^w^
I heavily recommend playing or researching this game series called Brandish (most specifically the first 2 games), they're often overlooked inspirations of Deltarune, like, really, really big inspirations, I believe learning more about it may be the key to predicting where Deltarune will go.
Something else about the guitar. In Undertale, the (acoustic) guitar is the only real instrument in the entire ost, the rest is all digital. It plays twice: once solo in Home with Toriel, and once during the first half of Undertale (the song) accompanied by digital instruments. The guitar in Home gives the player a sense of rest and familiarity after the unfamiliar (digital-sounding) world of the ruins. By extension it also symbolises humans as a whole, as that's the thing most familiar to the player and Frisk. Then, in Undertale, we finally hear the guitar again, and this time mixed with more and more digital instruments, symbolising Chara's journey through the underground while learning to get along with and love the monsters. Then Chara dies and the guitar disappears from the song. This all is why it confused the heck out of me when Deltarune's version of Home (you can always come home) is a near 1:1 copy of Home, but played on a digital guitar. This is, to my knowledge, the only place we've heard this digital guitar, until the /dess page on the sweepstakes? What does this all mean? Fuck if I know, but it sure is interesting.
Bread, the how to draw dragons book features... Well, lets just say nude dragons. Presumably Asriel borrowed it for... Those purposes, and tbh if I were in his place I would adamantly refuse to return such a book too. It's a memoire of your worse days.
A theory I've had for awhile now regarding Dess is that she's going to be the game's equivalent to Undertale's Asriel Dreemurr. Toby has said in interviews before that Deltarune wasn't originally supposed to have the sparing mechanic, but he brought it back because it was such a major aspect of Undertale. So, Deltarune's original plot he came up with before Undertale, perhaps with that dream way back in 2012(?), did not involve whatever Deltarune's Pacifist ending will be. (It's my theory that his dream was actually of the Weird Route ending) Toby posted an early draft of the Winter Alarm Clock dialogue on Undertale's 2nd anniversary (So 1 year before Deltarune Chapter 1 released) which only mentioned Rudy having one daughter. So either Dess wasn't originally supposed to exist in Undertale's world, or, Dess was a very late creation. So if both Pacifist and Dess were not part of the game's original vision... Then I don't think it's crazy to think that they're connected in some way, and that the Pacifist Route might be how you save Dess. This actually works pretty well with how this video brought up that the Weird Route skips all of the Dess lore. Of course it would skip all of the Dess stuff, she wasn't part of the Weird Route's original concept.
_This literally makes so much sense omg_ I always imagined the (Pacifist?) ending of Deltarune would somehow involve battling The Angel, & when I think of "The Angel" & who they could be, my mind immediately goes to Noelle... if not Dess. (Or maybe even Alvin, or POSSIBLY even Gerson, buuuut I honestly feel like The Angel just gives me more deer vibes than turtle vibes for some reason tbh.) Note how the resolution of Asriel's boss fight in Undertale is basically brought about by Frisk(/the player???) getting him to accept the truth about & move on from Chara... Chara, their sibling. It's also worth noting that Asriel does have wings in that scene, & that, in Deltarune, his computer has a flavor text line that says something about a creature with rainbow angel wings or something... or maybe that was something Rudy mentioned when Kris/the player inspects the doll Noelle & Dess made years ago. All I remember there is that Rudy said something about Kris & Asriel also making something during that same youth group event, but that they basically spent the whole time making these elaborate flashy rainbow wings... wings that could go well with The Holiday Sister's Angel doll. So, in short, the (Pacifist?) ending of Deltarune could possibly end with Noelle becoming/realizing she is/unleashing her power as The Angel, to which a battle with her amidst The Roaring would ensue, & the only way to reason with her would be to make her see that we actually want to help her find Dess... ...but that if, for whatever reason, Dess is revealed to actually just be dead or something, then the next best thing would be to help Noelle accept her sister's passing & start to move on... except it would also be about Noelle accepting her father's illness & (possibility of?) passing, as well. Undertale gets emotional as fuck sometimes, especially towards the end of the game, so it makes perfect sense that Deltarune would, as well. It's too similar to Undertale for that to not be the case.
Nope, you're wrong! In the alarm clock dialogue Asgore says: "His daughters get to grow up in the sunlight." and "His youngest daughter peeking shyly from around the corner." Furthermore Toby has shown VERY old concept art (i think from 2012) featuring Noelle. The Dess creation date is still really ambigious @@feliciaroseantonia
@@undertraveler That's the final version of the alarm clock dialogue where he mentions multiple daughters. What I described in the comment and based my theory on was the early draft that was posted on the official Undertale Tumblr account, which you can find by googling "UNDERTALE 2nd Anniversary and ALARM CLOCK Development". Should be one of the first results. Quote from the draft, "His daughter and wife welcoming me in..." Daughter, singular. No mention of the younger daughter like in the final version.
@@undertraveler My last reply got removed and I can only assume that it was removed due to my instructions on how to find the source, so I'm not sure how to guide you to the correct place. All I can say is that I am not talking about the final version of the Alarm Clock dialogue that you can find on the Undertale website which was posted for the game's 5th anniversary. That one of course mentions two daughters. I am specifically referring to the "UNDERTALE 2nd Anniversary and ALARM CLOCK Development" draft version that was posted to the Undertale Tumblr on September 15th 2017, which only mentions one daughter.
2 things i wanna point out: 1. while you were trying to make a match with the days overdue of the book reminds me on when in Mario 64 there was a Star Statue with the name many people suggest it says "L is Real 2401", and also On July 25, 2020, 24 years and 1 month after the game's initial release in Japan, a leak of Mario 64's source code appeared on the internet. Among the contents of the files was Luigi's model. so if we combine this with Dess, the Number and the meaning of the Dark in numbers too, it could probably lead us somewhere (or rather could be a funny meta reference) 2. if you look at the lights of the 5 symbols, the Boot one almost has no color, it's almost white instead of the Orange/Red showed on the floor.
SO pleased to see you back! Excellent analysis as always. My current theory (or hope) is that Dess has been stuck in the code and time loop for so long that she has kind of evolved into something incredibly twisted. Things like the link with the guitar strings and Spamton being controlled by strings… it feels like some sort of hidden, shattered, eternal Dess could have become powerful, controlling, and manipulative toward some kind of major end. Perhaps one of Gaster’s “two”? I dunno, I’m hoping it’s some dark time loop madness though.
I hope you get this message. Regarding elements: just like you theorized Jewel is more about the concept of greed than minerals or shapes, what if Cat and Mouse are more representations of predator and prey rather than specific animals?
3:29 susie actually has pretty much no business knowing about Dess since the spelling bee happened when they were still children, so unless Noelle was brave enough to trauma dump on her crush or someone told her she’s likely to know just as much as we do, that’s why she doesn’t think ‘dess’ instead suspiciously learning that Noelle has a sister ❤Susie is still referred to as new girl I believe so it’s like 90% probable that she joined within the last two years max. :3
20:09 I think it might honestly just be red *for wood*. Unless the guitar is painted, there are plenty of "red" woods that look orange under honestly most light conditions. Cherry wood is a decent example
Wow, someone actually explaiing who Dess is instead of using crazy mental gymnastics to try and prove a theory about her? And it's by a mainstream Deltarune theorist? Wow, you've really outdone yourself this time!
It's hysterical to me the idea that Kris' only memento of Dess after her disappearance is a raunchy book she (or with Asriel) borrowed from the librarby and never returned it 😅🤣
It never sat right with me that the Holiday's are so resigned about Dess being gone despite there apparently being no closure about what happened to her. Why does everyone talk about her like she's dead? I've wondered for a while if Deltarune's monsters are still supposed to turn to dust when they die - it's the only explanation I can think of for why nobody but Noelle seems to care to keep looking for her. There would be no body to find. All monsters could do is just make peace with not knowing for sure if a loved one is alive or dead. Which... isn't there a cut librarby book in Undertale that says exactly that? Haha
This is just speculation, but I think that Mayor Holiday isn't taking what happened very well. From the hints surrounding what happened in Hometown, I think it seems likely that after what happened to Dess, Mayor Holiday kicked Asgore out of the police force. She now has a grudge against not only Asgore, but the police force itself. As Alphys said: Mayor Holiday thinks the police is just in her way now and she (somehow) does their work of keeping the town safe on her own in the background. (Some theories taking this even further with the line about the burglars being "attacked by something merciless" actually being about Mayor Holiday physically attacking them herself.) Just like Noelle, I bet that the Mayor still wants to find Dess.
This was great, as usual. I about laughed out loud when you spoke about the orange/red guitar! Also love love love Dess having the bat weapon as an Earthbound reference. The 'orthodox choice'
Oh man, the wallpaper on Toriel's computer says it was 8 years ago as well! We're starting to get a pretty clear timeline, huh? That's really cool! I never noticed this stuff! And... I never considered the idea that they're keeping How To Draw Dragons because Dess borrowed it and it has sentimental value. ... :(
Might be a stretch but dess couldve went into a unknown dark world, and couldnt escape due to kris being the only one able to close and opening dark worlds, speaking of opening dark worlds, what if kris accidentally created one in some place, ran off somewhere due to being scared of what happened, dess getting curious walking into it, and get trapped inside, im saying this becuse ive considered the fact of what half bread mentioned in the UNUSED file, could be a possibility
What a WONDERFUL video! I never made those connections between the different instances of baseball balls being mentioned or shown, that is SUPER awesome Oh how i want to believe that Dess s the one trapped outside of the world we can see right now, that would just be so so interestering This is pure speculation, but what if the thing that allows Noelle to connect with her sister again is going somewhere really really deep within a dark world, since the rules of the light world and dark worlds are different, maybe going deeper into one would allow a character to find what is not normally in the game? Just spitballing here, i really have no idea The connection between Noelle allowing you to find weird route and her having a knack for finding obscure secrets/glitches that feel like theyre not supposed to be there is still just SUCH a cool connection That being maybe going further into the weird route WILL be the thing that allows noelle to find her lost sister and maybe at that point itd be like a "you did what you wanted but at what cost" situation since im sure if weird routes continue noelle will be turn into a shadow of her former self I do want to believe that following the purpose of DELTARUNE as a program presented to us by Gaster willbe the way to also reunite the sisters. We know that the weird route is not the only way to find obscure secrets in the game, afterall the eggs exist and the man in the car seems to be pretty happy about us finding them (its also curious that you cant get said egg when on your weird route, almost like whoever is vonnected to the eggs doesnt apptove of the weird route...) All of this is super interesting to think about but also very loosey goosey as of right now, I'm just really interested in where all this might go...
I feel like this video went off topic halfway through, however, more HalfBreadChaos thinking is always welcome. Its ok if you go off topic, because it covers information I’ve never thought about, still cool. Happy to see you back, (its ok to take a break though)
I got goosebumps on every Lore 'punchline' you dropped. These videos are incredibly well made and formatted, and I think the tts even adds to the character you have made as well.
I'm so happy to see a video from you again! I have missed these, I hope that you enjoyed your time while recovering. Bro I was not expecting to hear Penguin's voice here but that was a delightful surprise! I also wasn't expecting a game theory reference in a random line of text- Great video!
I used to think the reason Asriel wasnt returning the book was bc the contents of the book made him....um...feel things. Byt your theory is more compelling lol
@@Random_userok That actually makes a lot of sense, and if so, I can imagine Seam as being "acceptance" as they seem (seam?) to slowly just accept that fate is moving, and what they heard secondhand from Jevil will come to pass. Leaving anger, and depression bosses among a quintet to come.
@@bunnydemitrigenderflux generally the model is the 5 stages of grief AFAIK, if there is a 7 stage version please share them and if so Toby may be using that general knowledge for a subversion of the expected 5 number.
I feel like we are basically at the point where its pretty safe to say Dess is lost in the dark, or a dark world. I also think the whole plot is about her. So many not so subtle hints about it. Lost Girl, Find Her, Don't Forget. Its not exactly that hidden lol.
This is a fantastic, well researched and very informative video! It boggles the mind how many details and potential implications there are to keep track of between UT and DR, but you do a great job of presenting the hard-canon facts as they are and letting them naturally guide your speculations. As food for thought... I was entirely unfamiliar with the apparent "red/orange conflict" in UT/DR before watching this video. I haven't studied color theory or anything so my point of view is only that of a layman, but before now I never would've said that Papyrus' boots or Dess' guitar were anything but red. The possibility of them being orange (let alone the fact that the color would bear any significance, period) never crossed my mind. Toby Fox is skilled enough with narrative crafting and symbolism that he absolutely could be being deliberate with the red vs orange thing, and I commend anyone with the perception to pick up on that where I didn't... but maybe it's not impossible that he, like myself, just has a different perception of what constitutes the color red than most people. Sometimes a spade might just be a spade, even if it starts to look odd when heavily scrutinized. Keep up the great work!
15:48 I think it’s pretty clear and obvious to say that Dess was actually the crying child and she died in the bite of ‘83 incident at Fazbear’s pizzeria.
Great video! I was surprised you didn’t mention that collab Toby did on the music video “Skies Forever Blue”, but apart from that 10/10. Have a good day!
oh hey! I was just wondering what you've been up to. glad to see you're doing well, and that you're still digging into Deltarune mysteries. about Dess, I've been seeing something that, while not directly about her, might lead us to some new information. so there's some parallels I've seen between Asriel and Noelle: they've both been described as being easily upset to the point of crying when they were very young, and they both have some association with angels. (and if you take Undertale Asriel into account, they're both terrifyingly powerful) I think it's possible that there's a similar connection between Dess and Kris. unfortunately, we can't use this to learn much about Dess due to Kris being such an inscrutable creature, at least not with what little we know about both of them. this Idea just gives us more questions to ask, I guess. anyway, a few videos on Baldur's Gate sounds like fun. I know absolutely nothing about that game, but I'm always up for analyzing mysteries and details.
HalfBread, you are my favorite Deltarune channel, and I love the amount of effort you put into all your videos! Even the text to speech, which was jarring at first, has grown on me. Keep up the good work! And don't feel like you can't take breaks or do other stuff too!
To add to the maddness of Dess lore in a way that needs serious schizophrenia meds to understand, you could also throw in the Soul Colour meanings in Undertale into the mix, with Orange being "Bravery". I'm just going to say what I think outright: the soul colour definition is what the corresponding character LACKS, and/or NEEDS but isn't getting. I'll put the schizo essay below for anyone who wants the local mental asylum details: Deltarune does something interesting with the the 2 bluebirds - Kris and Berdly - in that they require and need PATIENCE in most of their interactions: for example, Berdly is super annoying, but by being PATIENT and consistently showing him mercy he eventually pulls through for you - a good example outside of Snowgrave is if Berdly loses feeling in his arm due to attacking Queen in her boss battle, which doesn't happen if you go Pacify/spare. You have to wait a while for him to get good and be patient with his severe case of cringe, basically. Kris too requires PATIENCE since he's been described as a weirdo prankster by pretty much everyone, but only the people who waited around with him for a long time got to see other parts to him that we don't, like Toriel and Noelle - Even Susie had to be patient with Kris for a while in order to become better buddies since she spent most of Chapter 1 running off by herself, in Chapter 2 you can WAIT to eat moss with her. You could also say Kris has been PATIENT in waiting for the Dark worlds to re-appear again, depending on how you want to interpret Kris - a 7 year wait for a repeat of an event that happened to you when you were a kid is no joke The other Party members have this too: Ralsei requires KINDNESS, since half of the fandom is honestly pretty suspicious of him for knowing far too much about whats going on than he's telling or should know. If tea theory is correct, Kris doesn't even like him that much in Chapter 2, despite how desperate Ralsei is to bond with Kris - He's basically desperate for someone to care about him because that's what gives Darkners life and a purpose to not turn into stone statues. I think the only moment of genuine Kindess he's experienced from someone else so far is when Susie dragged him off in chapter 2. Susie needs Perseverance since in Chapter 1 she was basically impossible to approach due to being a bully, absolutely nobody got to see Susie's cooler side and Susie had basically all but given up herself, Lancer was essentially the only one who could reach out and encourage her to change herself as a fellow "bad guy". On the flip side, Susie is uncontrollable and is the one pushing to continue adventures in the dark world despite the dangers, which kicks off Chapter 3: her PERSEVERANCE is a double-edged sword at best, she needs it for her implied horrible home life, yet very few people actually last the long haul since everyone focuses on her first terrible impression and is way too intimidated by her Noelle obviously needs Justice, anyone watching this Dess video could draw the conclusion that she REALLY needs true closure on what happened to Dess - Asgore being fired didn't solve anything. Justice can go two ways, "innocent" or "guilty" , and Noelle can represent both of those in that she can REMAIN innocent of the Dark World, or be guilty of murder depending on how you Proceed. Oh, and if she's connected to the Angel, that can be seen as a form of DIVINE JUSTICE. Oh, and since Toriel will probably be in Chapter 3, she's obviously Integrity - Not just because it's her light world dress colour, it DOES fit her because she's the Moral Guardian who sent Kris and Asriel to church the second they stepped out of line... but again, it's something she needs from others or lacks since she used to be quite a wild according to Rudy. Asgore's integrity as the police chief was compromised which killed their marriage, Kris has about zero integrity as a chaos gremlin child, and Chapter 3 might explore how honest her moral principles actually are, as in the integrity of the Dreemurr house basically is on her shoulders: if she can't resist the external Dark World influence and actually bear the weight of whatever gets revealed, Kris's home life may collapse even further. It says a lot that the theory about how Queen treats Kris is a parallel to how Toriel treats Kris is something that might actually be addressed, since you can take Queen to your house if you ignore Susie prompting you to go to school post-Chapter 2 dark world. Basically, it's not completely out of the question "Bravery" is what Dess requires/needs right now - You've got to BRAVE the unknown and FIND HER, Dess herself needs BRAVERY from other people for her situation to reach some sort of conclusion. She's the one who got Noelle into Horror movies, but at same time beat up Kris if he goes to far in pranks - Kris basically had to BRAVE the cooler big sister figure occasionally beating him up just to hang out, Noelle had to be BRAVE in order to spend quality time with said sister despite being a real wimpy kid who freaked out over the smallest things back then.
Since blue represents both Kris and Berdly then maybe the other colours also represent more than one character, maybe ones who have less important roles compared to the other one? Maybe yellow apart from Noelle could be Asgore or Mayor Holiday, since they would both benefit from closure and justice on the Dess thing. And they are both (probably) blonde. Orange apart from Dess could be Papyrus who needs bravery to go out of the house (and he dresses with orange/red) or Asriel who maybe needs bravery to face the town again after college? He's not orange but idk maybe he wears orange now or something... Purple apart from Susie...maybe Asgore? Since his in a difficult situation atm he would need to persevere and his clothes were purple in UT (yes ik I already said Asgore before). Or maybe Rudy? Green...uhh maybe Jockington since he's green? Maybe he goes to a darkworld at some point and you need kindness there? Or maybe Asriel for...some reason I mean he wore green in UT and used the green crayon alot? Yeah I have no idea.
Glad you’re back, my favorite Deltarune TH-camr by far, I completely understand that you just got lost in another game like that, that feeling is actually so true. I’m completely on board with you covering other stuff like BG3 and other stuff you’re interested in, obviously you’ll always be making a Deltarune theory/analysis channel but don’t be afraid to branch off into other stuff like you’re doing, remember at that end of the day with content like TH-cam videos you have to make stuff that you enjoy, so I’ll still stick around for your new stuff, this video was a banger per usual, keep the peak content coming HBC
December is like Gaster. They appear in the plot for split seconds but they is the most studied character by far, and we don’t know that much about them
20:38 im pretty sure magic isnt real in the light world so i dont think anyone would associate asgore with fire magic in DR (ch2, in the hospital, noelle says she wished she had healing magic in real life-- and if you inspect toriel stove, it says it has cinammony batter on it, unlike in UT where both toriel and asgore's stoves were clean because they used fire magic instead) (the biggest piece of evidence that magic could exist in the light world is kris' room in queen's mansion has a 'how to do magic' search, but that could be explained as A) having been searched between ch1and ch2 after witnessing susie and ralsei's magic, or B) magic still being a thing of fantasy like in our own world, the in-universe game Dragon Blazers still explicitly has mages and fire and ice magic, so young kris was still interested in magic like many real world children)
Why has nobody made a theory of why Kris is the only human in Deltarune?? It's such an interesting topic and I've never seen anyone even at least point it out.
Subtitles fixed, and chapters added, yay!!! FAQ time!
Q: "Who was the voice of Dess?"
A: Dess aka December Holiday was voiced by Penguin! You can find her cool work here! www.youtube.com/@penguinpowerful7/featured
Diddly dang, I put it in the description and the video, yet the info still got lost somehow? This is what I get for not reading it out loud, me thinks!
Q: Wh-
A: While we're at it, the voice of Spamton was Everude.
Q: "Okay but hear me out, what if, instead of Baldur's Gate 3, you do other video games! Have you considered...."
A: Listen bud, I don't control the weird impulses that drive me to make videos.

There might be a classroom (or other school area) dark world in the future, where that person might actually appear
Unfortunately very accurate to how cruel real life schools can be tbh
@@feliciaroseantonia It would be sad if true, but perhaps this kind of thing happened to Toby Fox, or somebody else on the development team, to inspire this plot point.
Read a fic where an organizer just, randomly picked it from a set of national spelling bee words (which, is how it works in real life - "December" is listed under challenging words for 3rd graders in the Scripps National Spelling Bee)
Just, true random chance. Thinking about a specific finalist's trauma can be the last thing on someone's mind, you know?
About the 2583 days thing, on a numpad the position of those numbers are...

The red guitar thing is interesting, because Ralsei's default scarf is considered red despite being obviously pink, so I guess Toby's idea of red is fairly encompassing.
Pink is very light red
Ralsei's pink isn't light red though, it's more of a magenta or a shock pink
fair, but pink is unambiguously a form of red
@@TheSkyGuy77 it does have a different hue than would be used for red
there are a few instances of red, but only in backgrounds or specific characters
I love how the dark undertone of speculation part gets completely derailed with Toby trolling us with the Red/Orange debate.

You know what would be even funnier? If Kris returned the Dragon book and Dess just immediately returns.

@@CyborusYT So (some of) his inspiration is simply "It came to me in a dream"
About the red guitar: ive noticed deltarune sort of avoids literally using the colour red in a lot of cases. Ralseis scarf is very clearly pink but is called red. Ans i think that implies kris's shoulder thing is red too, just maybe the lighting of the dark world distorts or tints colours.
So the guitar is "red" like ralseis scarf, even if its literslly coloured orange.
I wonder if that's for thematic reasons so that when it is used, it means a lot, and will have more dramatic impact. e.g that darkner kill animation
Im guessing Toby wants to differentiate literal ♥️ (red) colors with insignificant ones. The cases he uses red in usually mean Life, Power or Death
Could Kris be colorblind to red? We know their eyes are red, but maybe they don't care for the rarity of such a color due to they can't see it. Or maybe it is their isn't any other humans around town to compare to.
@@Worn_Guide the pink and orange you see are still in the red spectrum. Itd be more green/brown looking if that were true

I had no clue that Noelle reacted to unused items! She even says “unused?!” I wonder if Noelle’s knack for breaking games/seeing things she really shouldn’t is related to Dess’s disappearance.

I’m pretty the reason why Asriel won’t ever return the how to draw dragons book is because of the scantily clad dragons on the cover.. returning it would be embarrassing, not because it’s sentimental
I kind of agree with you, but why would Toriel not just return the book and settle the debt herself in that case?
Because she doesn’t wanna pay the exorbitantly large fee lol. I assume Asriel also doesn’t return it because he uhm… likes it. A lot.
@@RatTimes12 I can definitely see Toriel acting that way, although she might secretly have similar books of her own. *Scandalous!*
Isn't Alphys a lizard?
I think asriel was an innocent boy that wanted to rent a cool badass dragon book and got the wrong kind of dragon book

1: the best Undertale/Deltarune theorist ever
2: the only Undertale/Deltarune theorist ever
(Male reindeer grow them in spring and shed them in fall, while females keep their antlers during the winter.)
Some people use this as evidence for the trans-Noelle headcanon (bc Noelle has antlers and Dess doesn't), but hormones are what determines when antlers grow/are shed, so if Noelle was medically transitioning, she wouldn't have an AMAB antler cycle because of her hormones.
Monsters most likely don't have same structure as humans do, perhaps its something to do with emotions?
woah, the echo effect is neat

(Also, I personally think Susie likely arrived after Azzy left for college, seeing as her dialogue in the cyber world, I think, implies she hasn’t met him.)
17:54 for dealmaker I think its safe to assume it reminds her of the Spamton spam email ads she got.
Anyway, another great video.
Gla you're back; and excellent video as always - you're always able to bring new discussion to the table!

Side note.
I feel like the "2583"s 83 definitely is referring to ヤミ(yami).
Usually, a number refers to one hiragana character, like the "わた94" example. A list of pronunciations are as follows:
1: い(i) 2: に/ふ(ni/fu) 3: み(mi) 4. し/よ(shi or yo) 5. ご (go) 6.ろく/む (roku/mu) 7. なな/しち(nana/shichi) 8. は, ぱ, や (ha,pa,ya) and 9. く (ku).
Judging by the list, it should mean やみ, which means dark and evilness.
fun fact: dess holiday is a valid kid name
So is Mike [Last Name TBA i guess] 👀
My theory about Dess:
Gaster decided to catch a random character in the game files, because he wants to player because interested in him and his game.
NEW HALFBREAD CHAOS VIDEO JUST DROPPED 😱
I recently started binge watching some of your older videos, glad this came up just now :3
I love this channel and the way you present videos so I just wanted to say
Thanks ;3
Thanks for your great content ^w^
The 2583 thing was not a reach holy crap thats an amazing observation im sooo hyped back up for deltarune to kick out releases
(It's my theory that his dream was actually of the Weird Route ending)
Toby posted an early draft of the Winter Alarm Clock dialogue on Undertale's 2nd anniversary (So 1 year before Deltarune Chapter 1 released) which only mentioned Rudy having one daughter.
_This literally makes so much sense omg_
I always imagined the (Pacifist?) ending of Deltarune would somehow involve battling The Angel, & when I think of "The Angel" & who they could be, my mind immediately goes to Noelle... if not Dess. (Or maybe even Alvin, or POSSIBLY even Gerson, buuuut I honestly feel like The Angel just gives me more deer vibes than turtle vibes for some reason tbh.)
Note how the resolution of Asriel's boss fight in Undertale is basically brought about by Frisk(/the player???) getting him to accept the truth about & move on from Chara...
2 things i wanna point out:
1. while you were trying to make a match with the days overdue of the book reminds me on when in Mario 64 there was a Star Statue with the name many people suggest it says "L is Real 2401", and also On July 25, 2020, 24 years and 1 month after the game's initial release in Japan, a leak of Mario 64's source code appeared on the internet. Among the contents of the files was Luigi's model. so if we combine this with Dess, the Number and the meaning of the Dark in numbers too, it could probably lead us somewhere (or rather could be a funny meta reference)
2. if you look at the lights of the 5 symbols, the Boot one almost has no color, it's almost white instead of the Orange/Red showed on the floor.
HBC coming back? and with a cool interesting topic? OOOOH I'LL TAKE IT!
Even the chips I eat seem tasteless without your videos. Your theories, whether true or false, are very valuable. Thank you
We 🤍 you halfbread, your videos are so comforting and we wouldn’t mind a Baldur’s Gate video or two! We just want your videos!
The 83 in 2583 days must stand for the bite of 83 which means Dess got killed by Breadbear!!!
Oh wait wrong franchise...
“FIND HER❤pis”
imagine receiving that from a childhood friend lmao
3:29 susie actually has pretty much no business knowing about Dess since the spelling bee happened when they were still children, so unless Noelle was brave enough to trauma dump on her crush or someone told her she’s likely to know just as much as we do, that’s why she doesn’t think ‘dess’ instead suspiciously learning that Noelle has a sister ❤Susie is still referred to as new girl I believe so it’s like 90% probable that she joined within the last two years max. :3
10:13 she wrote berry correct (berry delight deep withiiiinnnn=bury the light deep withiiiiinnnn)
God that reminds me of the joke fanart of Weird Route Noelle being forcefully invited to a party with Vergil and Senator Armstrong
@@anueutsuho7425 ajksdghsauıdha
(Some theories taking this even further with the line about the burglars being "attacked by something merciless" actually being about Mayor Holiday physically attacking them herself.)
Just like Noelle, I bet that the Mayor still wants to find Dess.
And... I never considered the idea that they're keeping How To Draw Dragons because Dess borrowed it and it has sentimental value.
...
:(
HalfBreadChaos over analyzing every detail is so much of what I love about this channel.
I never made those connections between the different instances of baseball balls being mentioned or shown, that is SUPER awesome
Oh how i want to believe that Dess s the one trapped outside of the world we can see right now, that would just be so so interestering
This is pure speculation, but what if the thing that allows Noelle to connect with her sister again is going somewhere really really deep within a dark world, since the rules of the light world and dark worlds are different, maybe going deeper into one would allow a character to find what is not normally in the game? Just spitballing here, i really have no idea
The connection between Noelle allowing you to find weird route and her having a knack for finding obscure secrets/glitches that feel like theyre not supposed to be there is still just SUCH a cool connection
That being maybe going further into the weird route WILL be the thing that allows noelle to find her lost sister and maybe at that point itd be like a "you did what you wanted but at what cost" situation since im sure if weird routes continue noelle will be turn into a shadow of her former self
I do want to believe that following the purpose of DELTARUNE as a program presented to us by Gaster willbe the way to also reunite the sisters. We know that the weird route is not the only way to find obscure secrets in the game, afterall the eggs exist and the man in the car seems to be pretty happy about us finding them (its also curious that you cant get said egg when on your weird route, almost like whoever is vonnected to the eggs doesnt apptove of the weird route...)
All of this is super interesting to think about but also very loosey goosey as of right now, I'm just really interested in where all this might go...
I feel like this video went off topic halfway through, however, more HalfBreadChaos thinking is always welcome. Its ok if you go off topic, because it covers information I’ve never thought about, still cool. Happy to see you back, (its ok to take a break though)
you are definitely in my top 5 youtubers
so happy to see such a long upload from you
The orange red guitar reminds me of a Smallant clip where he said that the red switch in Ruins is orange and proved it
I got goosebumps on every Lore 'punchline' you dropped.
I also wasn't expecting a game theory reference in a random line of text-
Great video!
I used to think the reason Asriel wasnt returning the book was bc the contents of the book made him....um...feel things. Byt your theory is more compelling lol
Probably Nobody will read this
but... I have a theory
I think the secret bosses represent the five stages of grief
Jevil-denial
Spamton-Bargaining
It might be a bit far fetched tho
@@Random_userok That actually makes a lot of sense, and if so, I can imagine Seam as being "acceptance" as they seem (seam?) to slowly just accept that fate is moving, and what they heard secondhand from Jevil will come to pass.
Leaving anger, and depression bosses among a quintet to come.
@@infitomes7035 yeah honestly im surprised no-one else has made a video about is (that im aware of)
Aren't there seven stages? And seven chapters? I could see Jevil as kinda being shock.... But uhm, Spamton definitely fits bargaining in every way....
I like how we're 2 months into 2024 and still thinking about December
Toby fox is never gonna stop making me question the reality of a fictional world!
IS IT RED OR ORANGE???

DUDE! I have been rewatching your theories like an obsessed fan, hoping to find the new one on my fy page soon... And here we are! So exciting!
I'll put the schizo essay below for anyone who wants the local mental asylum details:
Deltarune does something interesting with the the 2 bluebirds - Kris and Berdly - in that they require and need PATIENCE in most of their interactions: for example, Berdly is super annoying, but by being PATIENT and consistently showing him mercy he eventually pulls through for you - a good example outside of Snowgrave is if Berdly loses feeling in his arm due to attacking Queen in her boss battle, which doesn't happen if you go Pacify/spare.
You could also say Kris has been PATIENT in waiting for the Dark worlds to re-appear again, depending on how you want to interpret Kris - a 7 year wait for a repeat of an event that happened to you when you were a kid is no joke
The other Party members have this too: Ralsei requires KINDNESS, since half of the fandom is honestly pretty suspicious of him for knowing far too much about whats going on than he's telling or should know.
On the flip side, Susie is uncontrollable and is the one pushing to continue adventures in the dark world despite the dangers, which kicks off Chapter 3: her PERSEVERANCE is a double-edged sword at best, she needs it for her implied horrible home life, yet very few people actually last the long haul since everyone focuses on her first terrible impression and is way too intimidated by her
Noelle obviously needs Justice, anyone watching this Dess video could draw the conclusion that she REALLY needs true closure on what happened to Dess - Asgore being fired didn't solve anything.
0:30 oh aww
December is like Gaster. They appear in the plot for split seconds but they is the most studied character by far, and we don’t know that much about them
Ah, the comfort of watching a HBC video going at his usual antics
(83.4k subs at upload date)
20:38 im pretty sure magic isnt real in the light world so i dont think anyone would associate asgore with fire magic in DR
(ch2, in the hospital, noelle says she wished she had healing magic in real life-- and if you inspect toriel stove, it says it has cinammony batter on it, unlike in UT where both toriel and asgore's stoves were clean because they used fire magic instead)
(the biggest piece of evidence that magic could exist in the light world is kris' room in queen's mansion has a 'how to do magic' search, but that could be explained as A) having been searched between ch1and ch2 after witnessing susie and ralsei's magic, or B) magic still being a thing of fantasy like in our own world, the in-universe game Dragon Blazers still explicitly has mages and fire and ice magic, so young kris was still interested in magic like many real world children)
Why has nobody made a theory of why Kris is the only human in Deltarune?? It's such an interesting topic and I've never seen anyone even at least point it out.
I think Toby is exactly the kind of a guy to watch your video and then troll you in an especially obscure place!
