No I don't think he is "painfully shy". It's not that simple. Ben is devoted to honesty. He is always at pains to avoid the glib, shallow remark in case there may be something deeper to be expressed. That's why in interviews he sometimes seems to be 'struggling' with what to say. (He's not struggling at all!) He just wants to pause and ponder - to see if there's a helpful answer that he can give. He is enormously courteous and treats every question with respect - whether it deserves it or not.
This movie is both poetic and hart breaking, and yet everything in it seems so genuine... By this, I do not only mean the way people interact , but also how they seem to move through these surroundings. One might think they had spent their entire lifes during the early 1800s. Through them, one can almost feel the texture of wood grain, lace, teacups, and butterflies ... it is a magical exercise in time travel!

When he played "Q" in Skyfall Ben played the role of a brilliant young computer geek. But in an interview he admitted that he didn't even use a computer in real life. i would like to send him a message or ask him some questions, but what's the point, if he doesn't even go online? (Sad face)
i've often heard that when traveling abroad americans are often seen as stupid or annoying. it's a struggle for them not to think we're dumb and simplify their language. i think our cultures prize different things, for instance americans are to be sociable and out going. therefore we are quite glib in our interactions. i don't think either is better or worse, but it is interesting to see them together

Jeez, wasn't it possible to set the interview in a *less* noisy place? I have to concentrate a lot to understand what they're saying. This sort of ruins the pleasure of listening to two very interesting people.
