Must See In Canmore | Engine Bridge | The Last Of Us Filming Location

En 1884, dos buscadores desenterraron carbón en el lado oeste del río Bow. Dos años más tarde, la reina Victoria otorgó un estatuto para extraer carbón en el área de Canmore y, en 1887, se abrió la mina n.º 1 justo debajo del actual lago Quarry.
Canmore creció hasta convertirse en uno de los centros mineros de carbón más importantes del sur de Alberta, produciendo hasta 5 millones de toneladas de carbón al año antes de la Primera Guerra Mundial.
En 1969, la producción se redujo drásticamente a unas 200.000 toneladas al año.

El Engine Bridge fue construido por el CPR a fines de la década de 1890 para unir las minas en el lado oeste del río Bow con la vía férrea principal.
Hoy, el puente sirve como enlace en la red de senderos de Canmore y Bow River Loop Trail.

In 1884 two prospectors unearthed coal on the west side of the Bow River. Two years later Queen Victoria granted a Charter to mine coal in the Canmore area and in 1887 the No. 1 Mine opened just below present day Quarry Lake.
Canmore grew to be one of the most important coal mining centres in southern Alberta producing up to 5 million tons of coal a year before the First World War.
By 1969 production dropped dramatically to about 200,000 tons a year.
In 1979 the last mine closed for good. Within a year almost all buildings and railway spur lines that served the mines were removed.
The Engine Bridge was built by the CPR in the late 1890's to link the mines on the west side of the Bow River with the main railway line.
Today the bridge serves as a link in Canmore's trail network and the Bow River Loop Trail.
