just fyi do not upgrade capture rate yet! there is a bug right now and everytime you use effigys to upgrade capture rate it does the opposite. that’s why capturing pals late game has felt so horrible
At lvl 14 you can unlock the Condenser and I believe you only need to get a Vixy to 3/5* for them to start digging up the green quality pal spheres which would only take 20 additional Vixie's which you could go out and catch or at 19 you could breed them. The green balls and the occasional yellow from chests should hold you over for several levels.
They now do Yellow spheres at *5 and not sure but I saw a Red one too but this only happened once so I would need to thoroughly test this before saying that they produce Red ones (rarely)...
Instead of Direwolf, I find Eikthydeer to be the best Early Game mount. It doesn't take much longer to get, has access to fast, lower power attacks without needing to use Skill Fruit, it can also just run over small Pals to deal damage if that is still too much. The double jump gives some vertical mobility until you unlock a Nitewing or better and it's signature skill can also extend your gound movement by using the charge just before running out of stamina. Personally, the deer is a Top 3 Mount in the entire game, just because of how much Utility it provides even up til the start of End Game.
Just for anyone who would like a faster smelter, jormuntide ignis has a level 4 smelting ability and he can be hatched from a huge dragon egg if you don’t want to go looking for him and defeating him, if you happen to come across one of the eggswhile exploring
With one of the more recent patches theres now a ring you can craft (ancient tech) or buy called "Ring of Mercy" - what this does is not allow you to kill a pal yourself... your own pals can kill them, but otherwise you can put them away and just attack it yourself down to 1hp for the capture.
Ring also works if you on a mount as long as the mounts attack ISN'T DoT like fire, poison, etc....my go to is riding a Fengelope where non of its attacks can kill with the ring equipped. NOTE: You need to be riding it or it will kill ;-)
Really great progression guide! Good information and well explained. The best one I have seen online. A couple things I like to add: 1. Respawn a couple times to unlock all the travel points near the respawn points. Some low level pals are located on these islands (e.g. Rooby at Forgotten Island) and not on the default starter island. So unlocking these fast travel points will make it easier to catch 10 of each low level pal. 2. Catch 5 Cattiva at first for the weight increase it provides. This helps with picking up resources before setting up a base later on to put into chests. 3. Get Rushoar mount. At the very start you have limited pal slots and need to upgrade the base with stone/wood/berry/Vixy sphere production, so you cannot afford to start an automatic ore setup. So I like to use Rushoars ability, instead of mining it myself, to quickly get the resources for unlocking the second base. I look for ore nodes near the base and fast travel points. 4. I recommend to put one Laball or Cremis in the ranch early on to get some wool. If you don’t do that you will not have the resources to craft better (metal / resistant) armor later on. The fluffy beds also need wool to craft. 5. The effigies are currently bugged and decrease your catch chance, if you use them, instead of increasing it. So I recommend not picking up any effigies to save time. Once a patch comes out to fix it, it will also be easier to get them all when starting from 0 with an endgame mount. 6. To speed up the breeding process I recommend going to the volcano area to find large and huge eggs. These can contain level 3 and 4 kindling pals. It is big improvement if you are going to mass produce Cake to get a bunch of Anubis. I was debating if the Wolf or the Eikthyrdeer is better as starter mount. The Eikthyrdeer can trample over low level pals and I like to use the Old Bow to bring health down further to capture them. However I really like the flat speed the Wolf has and it fits into caves unlike Eikthyrdeer. So your method seems more practical to me, because I had not thought of giving the Wolf a low hitting special ability. I am not sure which should be better Tombat or Dumut for a starting mining base. In my experience Dumuts are easier to get many of fast as they are in closer proximity to each other. They are marginally better at mining, because of lower food consumption and can water crops. Later on I want to replace them with Anubis. Breeding does take a while and that is why starting with a bunch of level 2 mining pals is useful.
Ragnahawk is my favourite Pal in the game. GREAT around the base. Lv 3 Kindling/Transporting. At *2 with Lucky/Artisan/Serious/W.Slave it can cook a cake in 30 ish secs (Electric Kitchen req). Could increase this to Lv 4's through condensing but not there yet. In combat with Lucky/Muscle/Feroc. (no Legend yet) it is a beast against many pals. Good defence too....no doubt my mind will change when I get Legendaries but it will then be my favourite small pal lol ;-)
By far the best way to level is to go around mt obsidian and try to find a huge dragon egg, if you get lucky and get an ignis jormuntide all you have to do from there is set up about 6 berry farms in your base and you can afk hundreds of thousands of xp and also create a metric fuckton of food that you can use to fuel all your bases, its so strong you can go from lvl 27 to 33 in 30 mins w two dedicated berry bases (just tp to and from and you should have about 400berries everytime you tp to cook) or if you want you can just play the game normally and then come back when you have like 4k berries in both bases
Also this idea can be expanded upon by having one dedicated beefy farm, layering your base so you can have multiple purposes that you can cycle between like production/mining on layer 1, xp layer 2 etc. (the vertical build limit is insane and ik the pals can be derpy but its a good idea to make use of it because the circle can feel a bit small at times). You can also farm bosses while you wait for berries to accumulate to add variety. And finally i think itd be a good idea to have dedicated xp farms on at least one base even if its small because it does also give you insane amounts of food until you can make salad reliably and cheaply
@@Nic-so3zn It's a trap kinda but, cooking the thousands of berries or my favorite making charcoal. Anything with high amounts and speed is "good" xp but, you have to be at base. Egg results are location based. If you get a dragon egg on Mt Obsidian it's going to be a Jormuntide Ignis.
I disagree with setting up a passive mining base. You get far more material, and make far more usage of the game's respawn times if you create a mining "team" and go venture out instead or mine actively. Right now I'm running reptyro, three broncherry, and the fastest flier I got available. You don't need any skills, any items, any abilities, any passives. Just go up and attack the ore while riding on Reptyro. Earlier game you can substitute for a Digtoise. You'll shred through the ore rapidly, and then all you need to do is establish a refinement and production facility and you're golden. Its also better to do things this way because either by glitch or by design, a passive mining base is UNNECESSARILY slow. With most passive bases barely scraping by two to three ore nodes per in-game day. When you are not present, the Pals don't work as efficiently. The exceptions appear to be things like wood and stone plots. Until it's fixed, it's just better to mine the things yourself.
The problem with the whole "catch pals to level up" is that it's just generally a terrible system. There are so many different kinds of players, why not make multiple good ways to level up? You wanna fight other pals? You should be able to level up doing that. You wanna build crazy intricate and cool bases? You should be able to level up while doing it. You like making crazy strong and optimized pals through breeding? You should be able to level up that way. The problem is that the only good way to level up realistically is capturing pals, that's a terrible system. You should be able to level up doing literally anything you want in the game. I don't want to stop doing whatever I'm doing to go run around the map for 4 hours mindlessly catching pals. They basically just said "let's take the catching system from pokemon and make it worse." You can't have this much of a restrictive system in a survival game. The whole point of these types of games is giving the players freedom to do whatever they want. "You have to level up by catching pals, but not just any pals. No, we're gonna limit the amount of each pal they can get experience from so you're forced to catch everything, even the ones you don't want or need." Its a suffocating system. Its even worse for the fact that higher tier pal spheres are expensive in bulk requiring a fairly optimized base for producing a lot of materials, which players are completely unmotivated to work on since it doesn't reward them for doing it. It's a ton of effort for almost no gain whatsoever. It sucks. Catching pal-mon is a really boring gameplay loop in itself and the devs made it worse by taking away the players choice in what they want to catch and what they dont. What made pokemon so fun to play was encountering that really cool pokemon, successfully catching it, and moving on with the game to find more cool pokemon. No one other than completionists gave a f&$% about catching every single pokemon in the game, let alone 12 of each. Why should we have to do that?

On the wolf, I'm using a spear, to "adjust" the healthbars a little more. It's not too strong, very precise and fast on the wolf.

Also mt ignis might seem like a daunting task but if you have a heat resistant armor you should be good, just tame a nightwing and fly safely boyos

My personal tip for 45+ I found is to grind up money and buy pals off the black marketeer lol.
Make the ring of mercy asap.
