Nobody couldn't say anything about the gameplay, because they never gave it a full chance. Live has better gameplay, it's more balanced, and it doesn't get boring. The only issue live has, is the amount of content compared to 2k. They have nothing compared to 2k.

Are you playing on Sega for the first couple games? 95 on snes had ratings. Dan Majerle and Gerald Wilkins were tied for the best 3 shooters at 94 rating and I believe Mark Price was second with 93 while Reggie might have have been 92 or 91. But thats just me pulling from my memories from long ago.

We didn’t know his best year would be 01-02 and then similar to when E.A NBA Live series was at its peak he/it will fall off significantly with in a year or 2 and never recover again. A key trait of Steve back then was he was a guy who would drop 18 points but the way it looked meaning how he got 18 felt like it had the impact of someone who had dropped 30!! So it was common to watch him play think he has 25 plus points only to look up and see he only has 12-13. So that’s why for him you can’t just look back at stats and say he wasn’t worthy or that doesn’t make any sense. The emphasis was on his style of play and this was in the HEART of the And-1 mixtape tour era where he felt like a natural representation of that style of ball more so than anybody else whose also considered a successful NBA player at the time, outside again of A.I of course.

Best opening video.. well it was on par with nba 2k2 which was the best intro video of all time back then and all the way up to maybe 2k11 and Inside Drive 2002 had THE BEST graphics of that time their Allen Iverson model looked eons better than Live and 2K.
