    For plots (early access only). If you have not logged in say 30 days, your plot de spawns. Released game will be controlled via subs. There really is no other reasonable solution.

    DO NOT "LAYER" the plots... please...the vast majority of guilds do NOT have 400 players in them (or 200 with 2 plots, etc.). Layering (a la WoW and others) cheapens the experience overall, weakens immersion, and defeats the purpose of having permanent in-world housing by destroying emergent gameplay and the community that will form around it--a huge selling point for Pax Dei. Instead, implement plot decay after 3 months of inactivity. This will go well with subs, if they decide to go that rout.

      100%, I hope they never layer the plots. Change home valley sizes or something before that. The layering of players is already enough of a barrier to meeting new folks/interacting with non-clan/party folk.

      they have phasing but the building can be seen the same in every phase

    • @dismaspickman773
      @dismaspickman773 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@yamisniper The phase, or the layer, that I think is super destructive is the one where you are all in the same "zone" but you have move through layers to meet up with your friends, and the buildings would be distinct to those layers, not all layers (unlike what you mentioned). This method of making space, reducing lag, etc. is just garbage in an MMORPG... Instancing in this genre, in general, is not good but more of a lesser evil in most cases. However, instancing housing/player communities through layers would be devastating to this game in particular... you might as well have a private Conan server, or play a single player game if that's your jam. It would completely undue a huge part of what makes Pax Dei special. Make bigger zones, add housing decay after inactivity... almost anything would be preferable. Sorry for the overly lengthy response, but it didn't occur to me until this video that certain player groups might begin to put pressure on Pax Dei devs for sake of their group, as opposed to the health of the overall game.

      3 months is too long. It's only been a week and a half and I'm already frustrated by the sea of red with only 3 solo's running around. Everything is abandoned. Maybe a closet like in Rust, if it runs out of matts, your base starts decaying.

    It would help a lot to make mechanisms to increase “shared plot trust” - there have been a lot of issues with contended materials, lack of granular storage permissions and so on leading to many players wanting “their own space” even when there’s “clan space”. As folks reached the leather wall, it was necessary to move home regions closer to the singular growler cave in the wildlands, with moved plots, scavenged clan spaces - now breaking folks who are stuck at the original base, further eroding trust.
    There are a ton of largely unused plots around that could be reclaimed, many abandoned with just a fire and a few basic crafting tables, one or two boxes - nothing valuable - those should have a decay mechanism. The huge castle with dozens of players hours of gathering put into them and chok full of high level crafting benches and boxes should last longer by some mechanism. The timers appear to not need to be short - a few weeks for a single campfire plot to dissolve would likely be fine, no need to essentially prevent people from returning which aggressive decay would do (see vrising “I can’t be bothered to come back and rebuild”)

    • @ragggs
      @ragggs 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Some actual ideas:
      Enable players to donate plots to clans, and clans can “refund” them. Refunds mandatory when players leave. Perhaps an aggressive decay timer on plots when in “plot debt” or something (but no insta-public which would be griefable). You could even make it limited to a single plot donation to a clan.
      Clan and player plots can be “joined” as a unit more clearly rather than just the implicit lines - harder to make mistakes and free a plot that’s part of a building.
      Ability to move plots, albeit with some kind of sensible restriction. This seems like a huge challenge with the land gradients, but if it could be made to work it would save some multi-castle problems. Likely requires the plot merging and clan plot stuff discussed above. Can’t be too frequent.
      Plot move desires could be eradicated by more travel options - carts, horses, more teleports or something. The ability to port from one home shrine to another for example would have eradicated our need to move for hides - but a 30m run per large hide cave run is a huge problem. Even if large hide gets fixed the problem remains with other resources and POI’s.
      We could really do with labels for boxes, and some shared map markers - where should people drop stuff, where should they craft, which boxes are for everyone, which are for crafters, etc. The aggressive resource constraints and long skill up times lead to huge dependencies and internet groups just can’t (at large) maintain sufficient trust, but a few systems (like ranked box permissions) could help remove the need for trust which would remove the need for “everyone’s a good faith actor”
      The plot size change on plot adjacency needs to go away. Too many cases of plots going away then opening up resources/allowing building breaks. It was a nice idea, but it’d be far simpler and less grief to just square off all the plots and make them a fixed size.

      @paxuspaine 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is the primary issue with this game. They shouldn't move on a single task until they have resolved this. Right now there is absolutely no mechanical support whatsoever for communities of players and as time goes on this is going to lead to significant discomfort. They have showcased the absolute bare minimum of player organizational systems. The features they have in place for player organization wouldn't be enough in a theme park MMO, much less what they are trying to accomplish here. This issue is critical.

    • @paxuspaine
      @paxuspaine 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ragggs I am not a fan of "donating" plots to clans if by "donating" you mean giving the current leader of the clan full and total control over the plot. Only once we have a way to make agreements on *sharing power* through the game's mechanics will we be able to start actually building trust and community.
      Star Wars Galaxies gives a decent example for how this type of system needs to be built. There should be a city system in place for clans to use that depends on other players maintaining their own status as "Citizens" of the city. It MUST included a system for electing leadership. In the grand scheme, clans should be entirely separate.
      With this system, each city should be granted it's OWN plots for civic purposes. These plots would be owned by the city and it's citizens in common. Players should not be using their own personal plot for public purposes to begin with because of how it could impact their access to playing the game. The griefing potential is and will always be way too high.
      The sad thing is that this only works well if individual players are limited to fewer plots than they currently are, which would be an extremely unpopular change to make at this juncture. I wish I knew more about what Mainframe has in mind to do going forward because so far this situation is rough.

  • @DapperHamster
    @DapperHamster 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    A few clarifications:
    1. EA will be AT LEAST 1 year. I think you are doing mainframe a disservice by talking about their 1 yr minimum as their target length for EA - they gave a minimum for consumers to calculate cost/month for the founders packs, not as a promise for when they'll get everything out.
    2. This cap is per home valley, not per server/shard. Each of the 6 home valleys in a province can have ~800 plots, and there are 4 provinces per shard. 19,200 plots per shard, which goes fairly well with their player estimate of 10,000/shard.
    Also means that even if one group took over a whole valley, there are 5 other valleys just in their province. No group is gonna take over a whole shard/server.
    3. This issue keeps getting talked about as a tech limitation issue - but as you said, resources start getting more scarce when the valley is full of plots. Even if they had no tech limits the plot cap would probably be about the same - I don't want every inch of the valley covered, I want some countryside left alive and not paved over.
    I think the only real problem is friends not being able to join a friends clan - and this is harder to find a solution for for smaller groups who might really want/need that new friends plot.

    • @eltarii
      @eltarii  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Generally agree! The 1 year minimum by Mainframe also has to do with their projected server costs though too. They probably have some padding but server costs will eventually lead to them needing to release to be able to charge a sub fee. So while it is a 1 year minimum they also cant keep the servers on indefinitely.
      The terminology I used might have been unclear but I was referring to filling a Home Valley Server not the entire shard or ~20,000 players. Not nearly an issue of not enough space. More an issue of people being forced to move to be able to play with friends.
      Maybe as the world continues to expand this might not be an issue. Currently Pax Dei has the most dense population it could ever have in the sense that there are only 24 Home Valleys per shard to settle in. That number will only continue to grow as more regions and zones are added.

    "This area is fully occupied with plots" a real trouble

  • @DawnChatman
    @DawnChatman 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I'm on Danu. In my valley, the only online people are solo's trying to navigate through a sea of red ghost villas. It's most frustrating. And of course when new people try to move in they end up plotting right on top of iron/clay nodes. I've gone from being able to fill two rows with iron to just half of one row. =( I spent a few hours scouting around to find a better area to rebuild but the few candidates I found had zero clay near it. I might actually have to resort to collecting clay in the Wilds just to keep building.
    ...I may get flamed for this, but I'd love a solo/duo only server. We'll probably keep the lights on when all the streamer clans get bored and move on.

  • @morningdarkne55
    @morningdarkne55 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    The 800 home valley max plots is wild to me. I get it. I approve there is a cap. But that seems terribly small in perspective. People putting plots down on resources is a problem. I wish the nodes could move to somewhere else in the valley where there isn't a plot. We definitely have a clan member who logged in to place a plot and hasn't logged in since and hasn't changed the permission on the plot so building around it has been challenging. We also had a person build right up against our clan build and build right on a place we had intended to expand to.

    • @flashfloodninja
      @flashfloodninja 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Eltarii was estimating that there are 800 plots for a particular region, I believe. It's plenty large enough for EA. Also, there's a soft cap on new players here in Dolavon - at least for now, no new players can be created in the region (though you can still immigrate).
      Fun stuff, very busy. 😂

    @mintymotorsports8120 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    See alot of people complaining about plots and such, but honestly i think the best route to fix the issue is to simply add more servers and lower the player count per server. Also if there was a way to rent servers and such for like friends only or invite only and something of that sort it would be nice.

  • @paxuspaine
    @paxuspaine 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I think they never should have allowed 4 plots to an account. They should have just given everyone a single plot and then maybe at a later date, if it made sense, allowed people to have an additional plot. This is the kind of thing that once you open the door it could be extremely unpopular to have to close it.
    To me, in a game that is supposedly being designed to foster community, it really doesn't make sense that one individual can build a bridge across an entire river without anyone else being involved. I think it should take 4 people to do that. But they would also need a much more sophisticated plot permission system. For example, 4 people could share one plot for their personal storage and progression needs, but only if there is some way to grant control of that plot to all 4 people irrevocably, or with a voting system in place, whereby it would take 3 of the owners to vote one owner out. Right now there is just way too much potential for people to pull plots out from under each other. This is going to become a massive issue if they don't quickly start to think seriously about how this game is working on this most fundamental level.
    The other issue is people paying for multiple accounts to get even more plots, which I have seen is surprisingly common. At least if each plot required an account even one person would be buying 4 accounts to get 4 plots. A hefty price. They have said that the entire game is playable on one single plot and I agree with that.
    Pax Dei in my opinion has these systems to address in order from most important to least: Plot and storage permissions, Crafting (especially dumping of useless items), and then maybe just the jankiness of Combat as the very least of it's issues.
    Combat is really the most fleshed out and complete part of the game as you've showcased in your gameplay footage. The media surrounding this game that is pretending that combat needs all the attention is not helping the situation. lol

    Depends on what their pay model is. They would have a hard time decaying your plot if you're paying for it. If they have a free service, then it could have a decay rate. But, if I'm paying anything for my spot on the server, as long as my sub is going, they'd better not decay my plot. I'd be livid to go on vacation for two weeks and come back to a dead plot that I am paying for. That's my two cent on it, anyway.

    I want to play persistent world not instanced housing. Clans need to figure out how to manage multiple locations -- that is a normal problem in a successful game. Mainframe needs to just open new provinces with different valuable resources to entice folks to open outposts. As for inactive players for the rest of EA -- just doing a wipe is one solution. That said they do need a solution but it is tricky. SWG hadn't even thought of anything until the Iraq war happened and the National Guard was called up suddenly. A ton of players suddenly couldn't log on to pay their rent through no fault of their own. Both in game rent/maintenance and subscription payments. The end result was SWG let stuff stand for quite a while (like maybe a year?) before they would just pack up the whole thing into a special package that to unpack you'd find a place to plop it down and voila your building/s would appear with all the stuff in them.
    The one thing I wonder about is when salvage comes into the game if it will improve performance -- there's a lot of junk being kept track of that is pointless from a systems standpoint.
    On the mining nodes -- I think it's actually a population issue. There's a copper/tin area close to my province border (the other side) that is real popular in the evening. I always get the mining node bug when I head to the nodes at night. Even relogging doesn't fix it. But then I decide to just stop playing for the night and when I log back in in the morning it works fine.
