    They are interrelated words but they are different words
    1. Field Capacity:
     Is the amount of soil moisture or water content held in the soil after excess water has drained away and the rate of downward movement has decreased after rain fall or after application of irrigation water to the crop field?
     This usually takes place 2-3 days after rain or irrigation in pervious soils of uniform structure and texture.
     In short, it is the amount of water a soil can hold against the force of gravity.
    2. Water Holding Capacity of Soil:
     Is the total amount of water a soil can hold at field capacity.
     It’s the amount of water that a given soil can hold for crop use.
    3. Water Retention Capacity of Soil
     it relates to the actual amount of water retained in the soil for crop use
     It’s the ability of a soil to absorb and retain water.
     It refers to the amount of water that is actually retained in the soil and available for use by crops.

    Good Moring Mam, I have a question regarding what is the difference between Walter holding capacity and field capacity?
