Regarding the ARK, might’ve hitched a ride on that G.U.N. rocket in Metal Harbor since he was previously seen behind bars in Prison Lane presumably after getting found by G.U.N. in the wake of the G.U.N. truck’s rampage in City Escape. Seriously, if you’ve not seen Big’s cameos in OG SA2, look them up. Dude’s even been to the Arabian Nights, a book only Sonic has been able to run through too.
Big is literally just that guy. He's chill when nothing's going on with him and Froggy. Then when he loses him, he just somehow winds up in the same place Sonic and his friends are Gotta love Big

In this game, Rogue compares herself to Amy just for declaring her feelings towards Shadow. Knowing perfectly well how much Amy loves Sonic, it’s more than obvious that Rouge doesn’t think of Shadow as just a “brother” or a great partner.

seeing gerald and maria's dialogues is genuinely heartbreaking, especially when you see how good of a person gerald is before GUN took it all from him, and how maria doesn't know how she's going to end up other then that though, im kinda dissapointed they've never done anything with omega, they could have atleast give a challange relating to him (and rouge probably), or show a cutscene of him defending gerald and maria from black arms and being awesome
I would have killed for Omega to have had dialogue mentioning that he met Maria in the Time Space. Honestly I'm just happy that Shadow trusted him to defend them though.
Gotta admit, some of Maria's dialogue hit close to home for me...her explaining how her disease effects her but keeps chugging, saying she'll always love Shadow, man...
For people interested in the additional lore this game offers, I urge you to collect all pages of Gerald's journal and read them. Provides a lot more detailed insight into their past leading up to Maria's death. Shadow's inception and creation, Emerl's discovery, Gerald dealing with pressures from G.U.N. and the president, Maria's condition and the Robotnik family, you name it. A lot of people seem to be sleeping on this. I guess because most people don't visit the Collection Room. It's very well put together! I wish I could get the physical version.
I've been wanting to read it, but I only have the digital version of the game so the only way I can read the journal is to attack those capsules in the overworld, which take a while to show back up, and I want to read the whole journal at once.

They really nailed Maria's character, she's such a good friend to Shadow that seeing her disappear like she did was just... sad man. I really wish there was a way they could have her come back some way.

I love that Shadow and Big have an interaction… out of any of the Sonic characters, you’d think these two would never cross each other because of how extreme opposites they are. Shadow is a complex, dark, tragic figure that goes about things hardcore… and Big is a relaxed, simple, carefree individual that loves fishing. But I feel like Big wouldn’t mind fishing with Shadow if he were upset and needed some time to wind down, he’s extremely nice.
Shadow in Twitter Takeover said he take a bit liking to Big. Big may be simple minded and no care around the world other than fishing and his buddy froggy. He's not an annoyance to Shadow and very joyful/friendly person.

@@MCtinRad Eggman too: He is a narcissistic, manipulative, and condescending asshole and is incredibly lucky that he’s Gerald’s grandson… otherwise Shadow would have killed him by now, Shadow the Hedgehog doesn’t count. Shadow just isn’t a fan of anyone that isn’t pure by nature like Maria was, but Big is somehow an extremely simple and pure enough person for Shadow to get a pass of approval.
This is something I see a lot of fans miss when they write for Shadow; they end up making his whole life revolve around fulfilling Maria's wish, ignoring what agency Shadow might have for himself. Shadow is his own being and has an entitlement to how deciding how he lives, whether it's for Maria or not.
I hope in future installments, since Shadow was finally able to get closure with the Robotniks, that he can move forward and strengthen his bonds with his other allies in the series. Rouge in particular - she's always been good to him and isn't shy about making her warm feelings for him known. It would be nice to get confirmation that feels just as much affection for her. It makes sense that he'd be reluctant to admit those feelings to himself or others, since all he knows so far is the fear of loss. But it'd be great to see him overcome that hurdle and become comfortable and authentic around Rouge the way he once was with Maria. Frankly, Rouge would benefit from it too, and she deserves to be given as much kindness as she's given Shadow.
Sadly, unless Sega can build an actual game around it, I doubt they'll even bother. This is the same company that kept every Sonic character in limbo for a solid decade, after all, so I wouldn't go getting my hopes up...
Sadly, Shadow’s had this same arc in both Battle and his self-titled game. I saw this game moreso as a call-back and as burying the hatchet fully, but he’d already moved on ages ago. The fact he hasn’t is somewhere inbetween game Shadow being static since 06, 2010s character assassination and the works.
I learned so many new things from this, like Maria having a baby sister. She and Shadow had a strict teacher and the hedgehog refused to hand in any assignment. Gerald had two sons. The circumstances of his family tree were not properly detailed until now. There is one big thing they did change. Maria's original lore stated that she was born and raised aboard the Ark and that she had never been to Earth. Now, it seems like she was born on Earth and taken up to the Ark for treatment.
The previous lore was also kinda integrated in a way. Gerald's journal states that while she was born on Earth she spent so long aboard The Ark that a lot of the younger staff believed she was born there like the G.U.N. commander

Still, that journal might have been very useful to me, back when I was writing a crossover story starring Shadow. That ship has sailed, though.
@@Aqua311 You can get the pages for the journal in the game. Look in the sky when Shadow is talking to Big in this video and you can see a round capsule looking thing being carried by 3 round drones. You can shoot those drones with Chaos Spear and the main capsule will drop a page from Gerald's journal that you can read in the collection room. There are also some editions of the physical copy of the game that come with a physical version of the journal.
You know, after seeing her in the comics, in prime and now here, I genuinely respect Rouge. She's a cool character, too bad her popularity mostly comes down to her looks but she's genuinely a good person.
They really did a phenomenal job with this game and filling in the gaps with Shadow’s lore. It was absolutely fascinating to learn more about Maria and I always knew she deserved better, but now that we’ve gotten to know her to this level it hurts even more.
In the original Sonic Generations, I complained that Big the Cat and E-123 Omega were not in the original game, now I think Sega has listened to those complaints and remedied them by adding both Big and Omega into Sonic X Shadow Generations. I'm now definitely gonna get this game for the Switch for Christmas.
Considering that it was Omega that defeated Shadow in Sonic 06. It makes sense that Eggman would have him watch over Shadow and hidden away from Neo Metal Sonic. Unfortunately for Eggman, Omega now wants him dead.
I believe it was always theorized that Omega was created specifically to be able to defeat Shadow, which is why he was placed in the same room as the real Shadow.
I knew Maria's parents existed, but a sister was not on my bingo card. I really hope we see them in the future. Seeng how well-mannered and polite Maria is, I assume she had good parents.

Good to see Big and Omega in the story revolving around Sonic x Shadow Generations. Didn’t sit right with me that those two weren’t in attendance at Sonic’s party, let alone the story of the console version of the original game.
Omega is a hyper aggressive death robot that wouldn’t get along with the other characters outside Shadow and Rouge for very long at the party… Big spends most of his time with a frog and prefers the peaceful life alone… there’s a reason these two don’t show up very often.
@@cb8655 Both Big and Omega are allies of Sonic and have worked with each other during several past incidents to save the world and their friends. It would be fine and make sense if they were included. They attended the party on the DS version anyway so why not in the console too.
Big's scenes are genuinely sweet. Amazing what they've done with him since TSR! Hope to see more of that kind of writing in future. The robots' scenes were funny, especially Orbot and Cubot 🤣
I know Shadow desperate wanting to change Gerald and Maria fate. Like Gerald said, changing what happened in the past can effectively change in the future. That's why Gerald plead at Shadow don't tell anything what happened to him and Maria until their impending death

We already knew she does though. The final cutscene of 06 after the reset has her at the Sol festival as usual. She is still in the universe, it's just nobody remembers her.
I love this game!!! Love how we have some info about the rest of the Robotnik family! Gerald has two sons (3 counting Shadow), and one likes archaeology and the other likes robotics. And Maria has a baby sister! That's so cute!

I might be reading into it too much, but if that's what the writers are going for, I'm all for some 06 acknowledgment (though it creates some lore/time paradox implications). I'm happy enough that they brought Mephiles back, even if Shadow doesn’t really wonder who he is. Everything between Maria and Shadow is absolutely perfect in this game. Shadow smiling at her is everything for me 💖 and that single tear at the end is enough to punch me in the heart. I hope the movie version of him is like this one. I feel it's the quintessential representation of who he is: stoic, powerful, and focused, but with a genuine love for the people in his life. Of course, to me, Maria is the only person he's ever truly loved (maybe Gerald, to a lesser extent). I think the way forward with Shadow's character is to show his appreciation for his friends. He doesn't need to have a heart to heart with anyone, but I'd love a game focused on Team Dark or just something that gives Shadow more interaction with the main cast other than, he'll fight but he won't stick around. It's easier to fight for others when you care about them, rather than holding a blanket-statement promise for millions you don't know. We kinda got close to that when Rouge said she'd always be by his side in 06, but that technically never happened, and Shadow didn't react much to that. All in all, this game is incredible, and I love the care they took with Shadow's character. Though I'm not surprised that the devs shied away from using much from his own game aside from Black Doom. Couldn't we have gotten a level at least? I guess it's better to keep Shadow removed from the personality he had in his game. The amnesia plotline just doesn’t work for me, and that mid-2000s "edgyness" is more of a product of the time instead of legit characterization.
To be fair the only things in 06 that aren't canon are the games actual events. This game even acknowledges it with the mephilis boss fight and how he was essentially ejected out of the timeline due to 06 becoming noncanon which makes his dialogue kinda dark I won't lie. So theoretically stuff like the chaos emeralds being able to send you through time is plausible still, it just only happened in a now non canon event.

Just because they were erased from existence doesn't suddenly mean they're non-canon, they just happened in an alternate timeline. This game further confirms it; Mephiles fully acknowledges he was defeated by Shadow before and is surprised that Shadow forgot him "again". The first time Shadow "forgot" Mephiles was because Shadow's first meeting with Mephiles was before Shadow went back in time and Mephiles saw Shadow for the first time; they meet each other out of order. The second time Shadow "forgot" Mephiles is because the timeline was reset. Gerald even brings up the possibility of time changing as a reason why this event could have happened.

OH my those lore drops with Maria and Gerald are interesting. I wonder if we will see Maria's baby sister in the games in the future. This is from 50 years ago so she could still be alive just an older adult. And interesting to hear about Gerald's sons, especially one going into robotics and one going into archeology, It's fascinating to hear though I am sad they never mention Eggman. That's one I think could be interesting, especially given the stuff with Sage and Eggman's relationship in Frontiers.
Eggman's age is somewhere in his 40s while Gerald and Maria died 50 years ago so it's natural they wouldn't talk about Eggman since he wasn't born yet.

I'm so autistic about Omega. He's my favorite fucking character. Shadow's bestie, who fully encourages him to go apeshit and is the only one who is on board with Shadow using Black Doom's power against him from day 1, who's the protagonist of his own goddamn revenge story against Eggman, and who could not give less of a shit about Sonic except to maybe destroy him (optional side quest for later). Frankly I'm not sure why he isn't *everyone's* favorite character.
I love how he arranges a play date with Shadow to bomb some Eggman bases. He is also clearly worried about Rouge, but tries to play over it out of embarrassment. He does care!

Gerald was a good man before G.U.N killed his daughter, destroyed most of his research save for the weapons, and sealed him in a locked cell as a science slave. We don’t exactly know how many years it took before he went insane, but I’m pretty sure most people in his situation would go insane from what was going on, maybe even Sonic himself.

Yes, Silver has been traveling to the past ever since Sonic Rivals, even though the events of Sonic '06 were erased Silver keeps finding excuses to travel back in time. And he has met Shadow before.

I love Gerald and Maria's characters so much but they actually retconned one thing that I don't think a lot of people noticed. Wasn't one of the biggest tradegies of Maria's story that she never got to see Earth (at least that she can remember)? Here though she remembers Earth which we know based on the Spagonia dialogue in one of the interactions. This one 24:13
Ye. She was born on Earth but was taken to the ARK shortly after disease developed. It's likely the Spagonia trip is what Maria remembers of Earth. It's edging on a retcon.
This is a misunderstanding based on a vague line where she asks Shadow what he imagines Earth to be like. Fans misinterpreted this as meaning she doesn't know, but all she really wanted was to know Shadow's take. Her disease developed during childhood, but she wasn't immediately taken to the Ark. It's really that simple. Not to mention way more logical for her to care about the Earth when she actually remembers it.
Its sort of a retcon, but not a major one. The implication in SA2 is she doesn't remember Earth, but its not flat out stated. We literally don't see enough about the events to make that conclusion.

Maria’s dialogue is just too sad to read. I know this is pointless to say, but I kinda wish she comes back. I mean, it was never explained what happened to the body after she was shot.
What if she's alive in the future? She was never really shown shot as far as I'm aware, and since it was never shown what happened to her after pushing the release button we don't know if she's actually alive.
Amazing Video, I was really looking for a video with all the characters' dialogues in the hub world, could you also make a video showing all the bosses' attack patterns? Some bosses like Mephiles have attacks and QTE animations that we don't see in most boss battles videos.

Okay, so I reread the dialogue. "I miss my baby sister most of all" This seems like a very clear inconsistency. Its one thing to say she wants to meet her baby sister, but this implies her baby sister was born before she came to the Ark, which Gerald's journal does not imply at all. It heavily indicates Maria's sister was born well after Maria was on the Ark already.

Is she referring to a second instance of convincing her family to let her stay aboard the ark, did they let her go initially and begin to miss her?
"Maria was already in space when Abe was born" No, this isn't accurate at all. Gerald's journal clearly says that he was born on the Ark as a "happy accident". Which helped convince Maria's parents to allow her to go to the Ark as well. Now, Maria does mention his parents "bringing their child" on board the Ark, but if Maria was brought to the Ark, it makes sense she might get this confused. I won't deny there are some inconsistencies in the dialogue between this and Gerald's journal (Maria's sister is the biggest issue), but this isn't one of them.
There's new dialogue after _most_ cutscenes, but not all. There's new dialogue after completing Chaos Island (when Rouge shows up) and after defeating Mephiles, but there's NOT new dialogue after opening Mephiles' gate and before fighting him.

Regarding the ARK, might’ve hitched a ride on that G.U.N. rocket in Metal Harbor since he was previously seen behind bars in Prison Lane presumably after getting found by G.U.N. in the wake of the G.U.N. truck’s rampage in City Escape. Seriously, if you’ve not seen Big’s cameos in OG SA2, look them up. Dude’s even been to the Arabian Nights, a book only Sonic has been able to run through too.

seeing gerald and maria's dialogues is genuinely heartbreaking, especially when you see how good of a person gerald is before GUN took it all from him, and how maria doesn't know how she's going to end up
other then that though, im kinda dissapointed they've never done anything with omega, they could have atleast give a challange relating to him (and rouge probably), or show a cutscene of him defending gerald and maria from black arms and being awesome

For people interested in the additional lore this game offers, I urge you to collect all pages of Gerald's journal and read them. Provides a lot more detailed insight into their past leading up to Maria's death. Shadow's inception and creation, Emerl's discovery, Gerald dealing with pressures from G.U.N. and the president, Maria's condition and the Robotnik family, you name it. A lot of people seem to be sleeping on this. I guess because most people don't visit the Collection Room. It's very well put together! I wish I could get the physical version.
The physical version of the Journal has been out for years, though only in Japanese. So it's not exactly new lore, just very obscure.
I've been wanting to read it, but I only have the digital version of the game so the only way I can read the journal is to attack those capsules in the overworld, which take a while to show back up, and I want to read the whole journal at once.
Nice to know that the night after Sonic's birthday, Shadow and Omega went out joy-riding and shot up an Eggman base, then dropped some nukes on it.

I love that Shadow and Big have an interaction… out of any of the Sonic characters, you’d think these two would never cross each other because of how extreme opposites they are.
Shadow is a complex, dark, tragic figure that goes about things hardcore… and Big is a relaxed, simple, carefree individual that loves fishing.
But I feel like Big wouldn’t mind fishing with Shadow if he were upset and needed some time to wind down, he’s extremely nice.
Shadow in Twitter Takeover said he take a bit liking to Big. Big may be simple minded and no care around the world other than fishing and his buddy froggy. He's not an annoyance to Shadow and very joyful/friendly person.

This is something I see a lot of fans miss when they write for Shadow; they end up making his whole life revolve around fulfilling Maria's wish, ignoring what agency Shadow might have for himself. Shadow is his own being and has an entitlement to how deciding how he lives, whether it's for Maria or not.
I hope in future installments, since Shadow was finally able to get closure with the Robotniks, that he can move forward and strengthen his bonds with his other allies in the series. Rouge in particular - she's always been good to him and isn't shy about making her warm feelings for him known. It would be nice to get confirmation that feels just as much affection for her. It makes sense that he'd be reluctant to admit those feelings to himself or others, since all he knows so far is the fear of loss. But it'd be great to see him overcome that hurdle and become comfortable and authentic around Rouge the way he once was with Maria. Frankly, Rouge would benefit from it too, and she deserves to be given as much kindness as she's given Shadow.
Sadly, unless Sega can build an actual game around it, I doubt they'll even bother.
This is the same company that kept every Sonic character in limbo for a solid decade, after all, so I wouldn't go getting my hopes up...
Sadly, Shadow’s had this same arc in both Battle and his self-titled game. I saw this game moreso as a call-back and as burying the hatchet fully, but he’d already moved on ages ago.
The fact he hasn’t is somewhere inbetween game Shadow being static since 06, 2010s character assassination and the works.
I learned so many new things from this, like Maria having a baby sister. She and Shadow had a strict teacher and the hedgehog refused to hand in any assignment. Gerald had two sons. The circumstances of his family tree were not properly detailed until now. There is one big thing they did change. Maria's original lore stated that she was born and raised aboard the Ark and that she had never been to Earth. Now, it seems like she was born on Earth and taken up to the Ark for treatment.
The previous lore was also kinda integrated in a way. Gerald's journal states that while she was born on Earth she spent so long aboard The Ark that a lot of the younger staff believed she was born there like the G.U.N. commander

Still, that journal might have been very useful to me, back when I was writing a crossover story starring Shadow. That ship has sailed, though.
@@Aqua311 You can get the pages for the journal in the game. Look in the sky when Shadow is talking to Big in this video and you can see a round capsule looking thing being carried by 3 round drones. You can shoot those drones with Chaos Spear and the main capsule will drop a page from Gerald's journal that you can read in the collection room. There are also some editions of the physical copy of the game that come with a physical version of the journal.
You know, after seeing her in the comics, in prime and now here, I genuinely respect Rouge. She's a cool character, too bad her popularity mostly comes down to her looks but she's genuinely a good person.

They really did a phenomenal job with this game and filling in the gaps with Shadow’s lore. It was absolutely fascinating to learn more about Maria and I always knew she deserved better, but now that we’ve gotten to know her to this level it hurts even more.
In the original Sonic Generations, I complained that Big the Cat and E-123 Omega were not in the original game, now I think Sega has listened to those complaints and remedied them by adding both Big and Omega into Sonic X Shadow Generations. I'm now definitely gonna get this game for the Switch for Christmas.
Considering that it was Omega that defeated Shadow in Sonic 06. It makes sense that Eggman would have him watch over Shadow and hidden away from Neo Metal Sonic. Unfortunately for Eggman, Omega now wants him dead.
I believe it was always theorized that Omega was created specifically to be able to defeat Shadow, which is why he was placed in the same room as the real Shadow.
I knew Maria's parents existed, but a sister was not on my bingo card. I really hope we see them in the future. Seeng how well-mannered and polite Maria is, I assume she had good parents.

Good to see Big and Omega in the story revolving around Sonic x Shadow Generations. Didn’t sit right with me that those two weren’t in attendance at Sonic’s party, let alone the story of the console version of the original game.
Omega is a hyper aggressive death robot that wouldn’t get along with the other characters outside Shadow and Rouge for very long at the party… Big spends most of his time with a frog and prefers the peaceful life alone… there’s a reason these two don’t show up very often.
@@cb8655 Both Big and Omega are allies of Sonic and have worked with each other during several past incidents to save the world and their friends. It would be fine and make sense if they were included. They attended the party on the DS version anyway so why not in the console too.

I might be reading into it too much, but if that's what the writers are going for, I'm all for some 06 acknowledgment (though it creates some lore/time paradox implications). I'm happy enough that they brought Mephiles back, even if Shadow doesn’t really wonder who he is.
Everything between Maria and Shadow is absolutely perfect in this game. Shadow smiling at her is everything for me 💖 and that single tear at the end is enough to punch me in the heart.
I hope the movie version of him is like this one. I feel it's the quintessential representation of who he is: stoic, powerful, and focused, but with a genuine love for the people in his life. Of course, to me, Maria is the only person he's ever truly loved (maybe Gerald, to a lesser extent).
I think the way forward with Shadow's character is to show his appreciation for his friends. He doesn't need to have a heart to heart with anyone, but I'd love a game focused on Team Dark or just something that gives Shadow more interaction with the main cast other than, he'll fight but he won't stick around. It's easier to fight for others when you care about them, rather than holding a blanket-statement promise for millions you don't know. We kinda got close to that when Rouge said she'd always be by his side in 06, but that technically never happened, and Shadow didn't react much to that.
All in all, this game is incredible, and I love the care they took with Shadow's character. Though I'm not surprised that the devs shied away from using much from his own game aside from Black Doom. Couldn't we have gotten a level at least? I guess it's better to keep Shadow removed from the personality he had in his game. The amnesia plotline just doesn’t work for me, and that mid-2000s "edgyness" is more of a product of the time instead of legit characterization.
To be fair the only things in 06 that aren't canon are the games actual events. This game even acknowledges it with the mephilis boss fight and how he was essentially ejected out of the timeline due to 06 becoming noncanon which makes his dialogue kinda dark I won't lie. So theoretically stuff like the chaos emeralds being able to send you through time is plausible still, it just only happened in a now non canon event.
Everything that happened in 06 is possible, it was just the story that’s non canon.

This game further confirms it; Mephiles fully acknowledges he was defeated by Shadow before and is surprised that Shadow forgot him "again". The first time Shadow "forgot" Mephiles was because Shadow's first meeting with Mephiles was before Shadow went back in time and Mephiles saw Shadow for the first time; they meet each other out of order. The second time Shadow "forgot" Mephiles is because the timeline was reset. Gerald even brings up the possibility of time changing as a reason why this event could have happened.

OH my those lore drops with Maria and Gerald are interesting. I wonder if we will see Maria's baby sister in the games in the future. This is from 50 years ago so she could still be alive just an older adult. And interesting to hear about Gerald's sons, especially one going into robotics and one going into archeology, It's fascinating to hear though I am sad they never mention Eggman. That's one I think could be interesting, especially given the stuff with Sage and Eggman's relationship in Frontiers.
Eggman's age is somewhere in his 40s while Gerald and Maria died 50 years ago so it's natural they wouldn't talk about Eggman since he wasn't born yet.

Shadow's bestie, who fully encourages him to go apeshit and is the only one who is on board with Shadow using Black Doom's power against him from day 1, who's the protagonist of his own goddamn revenge story against Eggman, and who could not give less of a shit about Sonic except to maybe destroy him (optional side quest for later).
Frankly I'm not sure why he isn't *everyone's* favorite character.

We don’t exactly know how many years it took before he went insane, but I’m pretty sure most people in his situation would go insane from what was going on, maybe even Sonic himself.
I think they're expanding the Eggman's family lore because of Sage, maybe they are going to be more relevant next games

I love Gerald and Maria's characters so much but they actually retconned one thing that I don't think a lot of people noticed. Wasn't one of the biggest tradegies of Maria's story that she never got to see Earth (at least that she can remember)? Here though she remembers Earth which we know based on the Spagonia dialogue in one of the interactions. This one 24:13

This is a misunderstanding based on a vague line where she asks Shadow what he imagines Earth to be like. Fans misinterpreted this as meaning she doesn't know, but all she really wanted was to know Shadow's take.
Her disease developed during childhood, but she wasn't immediately taken to the Ark. It's really that simple. Not to mention way more logical for her to care about the Earth when she actually remembers it.

Maria’s dialogue is just too sad to read. I know this is pointless to say, but I kinda wish she comes back. I mean, it was never explained what happened to the body after she was shot.
Either her body is completely gone if the ARK station is destroyed or perhaps GUN unit retrieve her body and burried somewhere on Earth
I would hope that her body was returned to her family, it would be pretty messed up if she was just left to rot or if it was destroyed

What if she's alive in the future? She was never really shown shot as far as I'm aware, and since it was never shown what happened to her after pushing the release button we don't know if she's actually alive.

Its one thing to say she wants to meet her baby sister, but this implies her baby sister was born before she came to the Ark, which Gerald's journal does not imply at all. It heavily indicates Maria's sister was born well after Maria was on the Ark already.

Is she referring to a second instance of convincing her family to let her stay aboard the ark, did they let her go initially and begin to miss her?

No, this isn't accurate at all. Gerald's journal clearly says that he was born on the Ark as a "happy accident". Which helped convince Maria's parents to allow her to go to the Ark as well. Now, Maria does mention his parents "bringing their child" on board the Ark, but if Maria was brought to the Ark, it makes sense she might get this confused.
I won't deny there are some inconsistencies in the dialogue between this and Gerald's journal (Maria's sister is the biggest issue), but this isn't one of them.

There's new dialogue after _most_ cutscenes, but not all. There's new dialogue after completing Chaos Island (when Rouge shows up) and after defeating Mephiles, but there's NOT new dialogue after opening Mephiles' gate and before fighting him.
