At 13:00 you mention "Google Workspace" and correct yourself to "Google Workplace". The first one was correct :)
An the screenshot showed Facebook Workplace, which is something else entirely.

I'm watching this a year after it was posted and im actually curious if you changed your mind about currents and would you reccomend using it?

This was a great overview, but... what now? What is there that's not as old-fashioned as email, not as ephemeral as chat, and not as lame as currents? What tool does your group use to have serious, deep, ongoing conversations -- about, for example, industry trends or organization mission?

When I added a new member to our Google Currents community, she said she cannot see any of the posts that were previously shared in the community. When I click on the "shared privately" link on previous posts, it says it was shared with everyone in the community. Any idea on how to make previous posts visible to new members?

Hello there! First, you need to check & make sure the visibility is set to Public or perhaps Organization Wide on the Admin Console.
For you to do it, you can follow these steps:
From the Admin console's Home page, go to Reports.
In the left sidebar, select Apps> Currents> Communities Report.
Visibility: Audience that can join and view the community content.
      Public: visible to anyone, anywhere
Private: only invited members can join and see community content
Organization wide: visible to anyone in your organization
Private within organization: only invited members of your organization can join and see community content.

It's so frustrating that the Rooms in Gmail get files/tasks/chat tabs but the Rooms in Chat do not.
They also really need to bring Currents to Chat, much like how Teams has Yammer integrated. "Threads" in chat are really clunky and to have real discussions around particular items is a big challenge... Currents does that well but it's yet-another-window that needs to be checked, and everyone thinks "am i supposed to put this in chat, or currents..."

Google Chat on the web is getting updated with the new UI and features files/tasks/chat for Workspace users starting March 24 so it's rolling out and has actually been available for regular users for a while.

@@SashaMirpour I'd like to know what constitutes a "regular user" - we're Workspace Enterprise Standard customers and still have the old Chat UI (despite getting a refresh notice every single day)

@@guitarchitectural Yeah regular users as in free Google/Gmail accounts (not any paid business users in G Workspace) usually many features and services are rolled out and tested on regular Google accounts before being widely deployed to business accounts and even then depends on if your org is on rapid or scheduled release. There are also some Google partners that get to test new features even earlier though through special beta programs.

Chat is lame because there's no tags and no titles to threads

    • @itGenius_
      @itGenius_  3 ปีที่แล้ว

It would be much better with those!

blah blah blah. You spent 12 minutes getting to the central question of your title and then didn't really answer the Chat vs Currents question. You just talked about what your company does and how great that is.
