Just fitted my T6 rack last week, really like the design compared to the old one. I fitted some flat rubber under the brackets to deaden any sound and protect the paintwork

Looks great (although the T5 rack still wins the most elegant bike rack award). I'm interested to see what storage solution you're planning for the rack. We've looked at the Fiamma bag and frame, but also our European counterparts have some great solutions using cargo boxes inside a zipped waterproof cover.
A year later and we have ordered our bike rack just now!!!!

A lot of cosy chat, and very little info. I have just bought a bike rak for my new T6,1 and would have liked to see how to place the plastic protection the propper way. They have a particular shape, thats important. The special instrument to tightnt the bottom attachment bolts is actually a momentkey, nice to know. In the beginning all the talking about turning and placing the Bike securing arms, went over my head to.
Great video guys. I wonder if it would be worth fitting a little rubber where the rack fixes to to the van?
Just thinking about vibration and your lovely paintwork (plus I had a similar rack and did this before).
We’re not getting any sound vibrations from it and the little stickers seem to be protecting the paintwork really well. We will continually check that it’s ok though.

Just noticed your van has a side loading door on drivers side with kitchen on passenger side. Is that something you specified or is it a California thing?
Great work as always. Also, have you considered south west France? Beautiful at any time of year.
You only need a shorten Allen/Torque Key to undo the two bottom clamps and you can walk off with the whole rack. The Allen/Torque Screws are not hidden away and are freely accessible from the outside.

We also replaced the VW bolts with anti-tamper bolts, still allen-head, but with a 'pin' in the middle which prevents a normal allen key from being used.
Can you fit one of these to a T6 with a spoiler on the van?

From personal experience you should take the bike clamps off unless clamping a bike on. My locking knob wouldn’t turn due to rain water causing some rust.
Interesting you say that because we had removed them but the rack opened on its own on the motorway. We maybe need to secure it with some straps
Hi, does it take it over 5 metres when the rack is folded up and not in use, or only when the rack is down?
Nice video guys and nice rack. Not sure of the UK and European driving rules these days but you used to have to have a red and white chevron sign on the last bike. In some countries it was compulsory. ?
I believe you have to have that sign in Italy and Spain. Always worth checking. The AA do a really good list of all the compulsory things you need when driving around Europe. We used it for our Eurotrip.
The Tommy nuts on my rack no longer work and I got new ones from the VW dealer but they are different with no opening on the top. Any tips on how to fit?

A vanlifer here in the states ( adventure van man...Brian, on TH-cam also)just had to replace his u joints on his drive shaft...turns out to be because of too much weight on his rear carrier...might wanna check what your shocks are good for so you don't end up with the same issue! ( since you said extra storage besides your bikes)

We have the highest weight category shocks and the bike rack was specifically designed for them. We’re hoping it will be fine but very fair point. Hope you get your van sorted soon!

You guys should look into an RV. We travel with our dog so we wanted a little extra space and we haven't found many cons yet. Congrats on almost retirement!!! 🎉

Im sorry to hear that! I can't imagine... We actually did not pay very much at all for ours. Many people think they have to buy a huge rig but ours is a simple 1984 24' Fleetwood Jamboree. Almost every mechanic we have met says "they don't make them like that anymore". 😊

Did you consider a tow bar bike rack as well as this tailgate type, if so what were your main reasons for choosing this one?

We didn’t consider one as we need to be able to open the boot to get Bentley in and out still. Since we are using the rack for storage we can still open and close the tailgate. 😊
I Have a tow bar mounted model from Thule in my Tiguan and has a tilt function that might work also in T6. Example: www.sparespro.com.au/assets/alt_2/BA921.jpg . For other storage, the original you are using, must be great choice

Hi Guys, been wondering between one of these racks and a toe bar rack for a while. Great video. You say it takes the van over 5m is this with the bike rack folded? The limit in Scotland with cal-mac is 6m, is it over 6m with the rack down? Thanks.

How does that compare to the towbar mounted bike racks? The towbar mounted ones seem to be easier to load bikes as they are lower down.
We don’t know I’m afraid as we’ve never tried a tow bar mounted one. We don’t have a tow bar so for us this was the best option
Looks good guys, although please don’t use those locks on the knobs for any more than making sure they don’t come undone. They can be beaten by a thief pretty easily :(

HI, I've been enjoying your videos as I seriously consider trading in my loved T25 Westfalia califorina for a T6 California - for all the comforts and reliability, etc. For that, we have a 2-bike carrier. Is there not a T6 option for 2 bikes? Surely, you won't need to carry more than two bikes yourselves, so the un-used extra length of a 4-bike holder when down, could be a bit of a pain.
We use the bike rack for storage and it certainly could be strong enough to hold two bikes plus a waterproof bag with extras!
Don't you use it to carry bikes anyway? For us, it's a rule to take at least one bike because once you are set up at a campsite, a bike allows you to pop into town to buy croissants, or other necessitites without having to close up and move the whole van. Typically, I'll be back with the croissants before my wife gest up. BTW, we live in Belgium, so often in croissant/pain-au-chocolat producing countries.
BTW, for our T25, we upgraded the hydraulic struts on the rear door so it can support the weight of one or two bikes, and at least its easier to lift open while the bikes are on. I don't know if that's important for a T6.
It is required on T6's unless it's a California which is already fitted with the uprated struts
I still cant believe you stuck the protection stickers on without drying the van off.. They will start to go yellow over time and peeling off. Couldve done it properly... :(
What is the load capacity? Can I load two or more el-bikes on it?
