    Simply stunning craftsmanship and artistry built into the surf boards! All those different sources of reclaimed wood, now riding on a wave some where. Thank you for sharing Western Flyer's connection to Ventana Surfboards.

    Excellent!! Great to see wood and other materials repurposed in such an artistic way instead of being burned or consigned to a landfill. Thanks. Can't wait to see the turtle inlaid into the transom.

    Nice. I do the same type of work , in my spare time. Done a red cedar striped timber 6" board(bit plane but looks great, I end up just oiling the outside), now doing my sister a jewellery box out of a reclaimed window frame. got my mind set to do a 10' long board tricky in lay design, thanks for the inspiration vlog.

    WOW ! I never tought surf boards were made like this ! Awesome work of Art !
    Congratulations to you all but especially to the young woman ! Great work, Mademoiselle !
    As for reclaiming wood, years ago I was working in a studio (advertising) and a small company downstairs was importing copier paper from Indonesia. I recuperated wood palets from Indonesia. They were made with a very hard, reddish wood. Oh mein Got ! It was mahogany ! This wood is VERY expensive around here, in Montreal, Canada. I brought 6 palets home and spent hours after hours removing hardened nails ! Most planks were heavy, dense and beautiful when sanded. I stacked them in my backyard and used them restoring a garden table and forgot about the rest for years. Last November, I bought a small Tanzer 16 sailboat in dire need of TLC. (One of my retirement bucket list project.) I spent this winter reproducing the worn, rotting wood trim with my forgotten mahogany planks. After years outside, under rain, hot sun, snow in often - 25°C Canadian cold. They were still perfect ! Straight, no warping at all !!
    Final sanding and epoxy coating will be done as soon as warmer spring is here.
    Can't wait for the inaugural splash in June !

      Not that I know of though I suppose it is possible.
      Perhaps a kindred spirit in some ways. The Log from the Sea of Cortez is one of my favorite books and it was a joy to find out that the Western Flyer still lives and is being reconstructed.
      Best regards and keep up the good work! :-)

    What becomes of the off cuts from the material you cut the parts from. It would seem it would be quite useful for working on smaller boats.

      You'd have to really knock it for that to happen, but they are easy to repair. And, given that they are glassed inside and out, they won't be damaged from the water.

    Form over function, hang it on a wall. Just a work of art, many of the woods used are subject to rot if they become wet.

    • @JoshuaRes
      @JoshuaRes 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      fixento whole thing is glassed though. I think that would protect the wood fairly well.

    • @VentanaSurfboards
      @VentanaSurfboards 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Our boards are glassed inside and out and are far sturdier than a traditional foam core board...and they surf great! More info: ventana.surf/faq
