Thank you for showing this, I was going to try the Harry R's battered sausage and now thanks to you, I won't bother. A heads up to you, and maybe some of your subscribers. I noticed you opened the door of your bench top oven for quite an extended time whilst placing the sausage, and then at a later stage again opened the door for the second sausage. You pre-heated the oven and then lost about 30 to 40 degrees by opening the door. Once you do this the oven temperature will not rise much above the temp that existed after closing the door. Then opening it again the temp will drop not so much as the first drop, but will be less than required. I discovered this after purchasing an Oven Thermometer and was aghast at the amount that the oven temp dropped. I now heat my oven to 230+ which will usually drop to 190/200 after inserting the food. I then drop it to 180 which is what I usually cook at.

Hi Gareth, how quick is the new oven to preheat compared to your normal oven. Considering getting one myself. Thanks. I love those battered sausages, the chippies near me don't tend to have them.
Gareth. When you first put those two sausages on the plate next to each other, my wife said they reminded her of the difference between the man she always wanted, and the man that she got! I wonder what she meant? And she also laughed out loud when you said towards the end of this video “If you’d like more pork in your sausage…” Being serious though, I’ve never been a fan of ANY Harry Ramsden branded products in the shops - I’ve alway found them disappointing - and to be honest, their restaurants have gone downhill of late too! We recently dined at their place in Bournemouth. Their food was expensive, not very well cooked or presented, and portion sizes were piddly! They always USED to be so good!! Oh well! Thanks yet again for the review on these matey, but based on your conclusions I think I’ll stick to the ones from my local chippy which are the BK’s!!! 👍🏻 Regards, Dave
The old original Harry Ramsdens was sold off lock stock and barrel several years ago to a catering company or consortium of companies that didn’t care about the quality of the product or what the name was known for. Within a short period the biggest chip ‘ole had been run into the ground and with sales plummeting and the name heading down the gutter the consortium decided to cut their losses and sold off the original property, just keeping the original name and using it to sell poor quality products via supermarkets and franchises in all sort of locations including overseas and unlikely locations such as Hong Kong and Manchester Airport and several seaside locations as well. Funny thing is that the company that bought the original site kept it as a fish restaurant and it is now their third location IRC’s. They are called The Weatherby Whaler group and while they don’t get the long lines of customers like Harry’s used to snaking out of the door and across the front of the building and down the steps at the side of the building, they are still more popular than the consortium ended up just before selling off the site.
Cracking comparison, recently found your channel and really enjoying it. Real genuine bloke, you put a smile on my face. Keep up the great work. Subscribed. A great comparison to try, fry some chips up in your usual oil with general potato's against some Maris Pipers in ground nut oil. It's the only way I do chips now. Try some double dipping and letting them cool if you want them nice and crispy.
Another review I missed. Going back the mid 70's I was based near Hull. I had a Harry Ramsdems, I think it was in Scarborough. It was great. Now? their products and chippies are franchise's, no where near the real thing. I have say that my local chippie does a great battered sausage, but the price is a bit over the top. As a kid, way, way back I loved a Savaloy and chips. But they don't taste the same today. 🥴🥴. A great review, sorry I missed it.

A while back they did sell a box of mini battered Ramsden's sausages at iceland. There was like 10 of them or more in a box. They were better then the full size ones. They stopped not long after they released them. I really like the HR ones tho. Might be worth a try deep frying them or something. I love them with a pot of curry sauce. The fish they do is amazing too
Batter needs to be deep fried rather than baked. I know chip shops use a wet batter but don’t think these are ever going to match up to that from frozen baked. I’ll probably give these a miss and stick to the chippy 👍

I used to love Saveloy and Chips when I was a kid. Around a year ago I bought a battered sav, and although it was nice it just wasn't the same. A battered sausage is only as good as the sausage being used. As for the Harry Ramsden food products? Let's face it, you are paying for his name more than the quality. And yes, I agree with the replies that say battered sausages should be deep-fried using a wet batter mix and certainly not frozen. A really good chippie to me is a sacred place and I stay well away from chip shops that also do pizza, Southern fried chicken and kebabs. Chip shops, Pie and Eel cafés are part of British food history and is sad to see them slowly disappearing.
I love all the comparisons you make, you make the food look so delicious. but.........why do you keep touching the packaging so much? I must be sensitive to sound or something.

i prefer to make my own battered sausages, cheaper for one, buti have been baking a lot of streaky bacon rapped sausages lately. one thing i dont like is the pre-made croutons you can buy, mostly little fiddly squares so what i have been doing is making croutons from various bread types as the airfryer i have can dehydrate bread rather well, made some decent croutons, as big as oxo cubes, also some like fish finger size for dipping into soft boiled eggs... owrth trying with your fryer if it dehydrates aswell.
I've had the Ramsdens ones and though they were okay nothing like what you get in the chip shop but then they are cooked in a different way. Must be smothered in vinegar.
My math might be completely off here but for the HR it's 56% of 76% which is 42.5% pork in the while product. The other one is 60% of 55% which is 33% pork?
I make my own.. I do a batch in the deep fryer.. take out when the batter has set and not coloured.. let go cold then freeze on a tray in the freezer, when they are frozen put in there own bag. Then bring them out spray and put in air fryer.. from frozen or chilled. The two you reviewed here imo the batter is awful. Try a tempura batter mix also.. fantastic.. do so many other things in batches also. Get the moneys worth out of the oil.
Looks like a Father and Son comparison. Don't be disappointed Dad 😕. It's not the size that counts, it's the way it's used. Maybe you'll have better luck next time if you're reincarnated! Geez.. Thanks son. Gareth, all jokes aside, you British have the best comfort food there is. Regardless whether it's Jumbo or Junior a battered sausage is a must have. Cheers 👍🤤😋
Hi Mr Bald, re the Pork content. Harry's have 76% sausage content of which 56% is Pork. Which means that the total Pork content of the whole thing (including batter etc) is 42% The Ballineen has 55% sausage content of which 60% is Pork. Which means that the total Pork content of the whole thing is only 33%, far less than Harry's. P.S If you let Harry's defrost, you could also deep fry them. I let most frozen foods defrost, especially chips before deep-frying, and the result is far better due to the oil not being cooled down as much as frozen food does.
I think they would not need as long to cook in the Ninja. The Irish ones look better when you cut them open. The batter is tight around the sausage, whereas the Harry Ramsden's are loose. Either would make a nice snack for elevenses.
Can’t beat a battered sausage - I normally get one thrown in when I get a fish supper! Nothing beats the chippy though - it’s the fryers and oil that does it! 😂
I wish you could get battered burgers. You can't even get them in Blackpool chippies. As for my local B&M, it doesn't have a chilled or frozen section, darn it.😊👍
Takes me back to my childhood, always had battered bangers and chips from the chip shop after going swimming on a Saturday. The batter on those Harry Ramsdens sausages looked pathetic, the Irish ones looked more like the real thing but obviously I have no idea what either tasted like.
Pi week not pie week. Pi is 22/7 so 3 1/7 or 3.14. 3 becones March .14 is the 14th March the 14th is pi day. Pi is the ratio for circles as in circumference is 2 times radius times pi
Tyvm for that comparison , can you do more. Defo the Ballini ones for me , and not only based on price. Actually you looked as though you were able to digest the Balleni more easily. From what you say it sounds as though the Ballini would go down well with Maykway Curry and chips rather than peas and chips.
Unfortunately frozen take away style meals rarely compare favourably with the real thing. That's not to say a meal could not be made out of these, like adding a few baked beans crispy chips etc just something to help them along. I will say mind in the age of the healthy air fryer in place of the lard filled chip pan there has to be some price to pay in the way of flavour, it is what makes the chippy taste so good :))).
I have eaten the Ballineen sausage but deep fry them, much better batter, Must be on the lookout for the Harry Ramsdens sausage I do like his jumbo fish finger.
Even though I'm now a type one diabetic as a treat I will have a battered sausage...and I've tried the Harry Ramsdens ones and they could be an awful lot better...
Pork content is tricky to work out as they say how many percent of the whole is sausage, then the percentage of pork within that sausage. HR works out as 76g per 100g of product is sausage, pork is 56% of that = 42.56g. Other is 55g of 100g of product is sausage, pork is 60% of that = 32g. I could be completely wrong though….. I think the way they list it is deliberately vague and should be clearer.
Gareth I know its a Teesside thing but seems to becoming more popular around the country but any chance of you reviewing a Middlesbrough style Chicken Parmesan ? Also you mentioned that £100 energy drink Prime in one of your lives will you be reviewing that?
I saw those Ballineen ones frozen in Sainburys today. Says jumbo on the package but defo not jumbo as you say. Gave them a swerve. In the words of Jim Royal....Jumbo my arse! 🤣

Cheers Jimmy have a good night mate
Great value in these hard times.
Cheers 👍🤤😋
Nice one John all the best mate have a good one
Hi Mr Bald, re the Pork content. Harry's have 76% sausage content of which 56% is Pork. Which means that the total Pork content of the whole thing (including batter etc) is 42% The Ballineen has 55% sausage content of which 60% is Pork. Which means that the total Pork content of the whole thing is only 33%, far less than Harry's. P.S If you let Harry's defrost, you could also deep fry them. I let most frozen foods defrost, especially chips before deep-frying, and the result is far better due to the oil not being cooled down as much as frozen food does.
Cheers Darren thanks mate have a good one
Damn - I should have come to the comments before doing all the same calculations
I think they would not need as long to cook in the Ninja. The Irish ones look better when you cut them open. The batter is tight around the sausage, whereas the Harry Ramsden's are loose. Either would make a nice snack for elevenses.
OOOOOOH!!!! I love those 'E' numbers, especially that E503.☹☹☹☹ Many a time I've had a battered sausage !!!!!!! 😱😱😱😱😱😱
Cheers Richard not great are they mate
@@BaldFoodieGuy I agree Gareth.
Can’t beat a battered sausage - I normally get one thrown in when I get a fish supper!
Nothing beats the chippy though - it’s the fryers and oil that does it! 😂
Cheers Scott
I wish you could get battered burgers. You can't even get them in Blackpool chippies. As for my local B&M, it doesn't have a chilled or frozen section, darn it.😊👍
They look a bit bland you can't beat chippy battered sausage ,love your videos.
Yes chippy is best for sure
I find Harry Ramadan battered sausage Gareth is to hard I prefer chippy great video cheers Gareth xx😩
Cheers yes both of them not very good
Takes me back to my childhood, always had battered bangers and chips from the chip shop after going swimming on a Saturday.
The batter on those Harry Ramsdens sausages looked pathetic, the Irish ones looked more like the real thing but obviously I have no idea what either tasted like.
Cheers reaper yes both of them not very good I'm afraid
Harry Ramsden products are way over priced. Iceland are promoting pie week? They have a Harry Ramsden pie for £4-50 Wow👎
Pi week not pie week.
Pi is 22/7 so 3 1/7 or 3.14.
3 becones March
.14 is the 14th
March the 14th is pi day.
Pi is the ratio for circles as in circumference is
2 times radius times pi
You need to get out more 🤣🤣🤣
Tyvm for that comparison , can you do more. Defo the Ballini ones for me , and not only based on price. Actually you looked as though you were able to digest the Balleni more easily. From what you say it sounds as though the Ballini would go down well with Maykway Curry and chips rather than peas and chips.
Gaz if you can get Ballineen spice burgers they are to die for 👌💯🇮🇪
Cheers Steviebhoy
Im going to watch this and break the chipshops door down lol
They do a Harry Ramsden chip shop curry battered sausage also.. they are better than the standard ones ;)
Sound video I could have sworn you've done the farm foods battered sausage 👍
Very nice. I prefer Harry's. Cheers.
Good point pal definitely
Never been a fan of a sausage supper. Maybe i should get one.
That was like looking at Dirk Diggler next to Pee Wee Herman 🤣🤣
Haha cheers
I've yet to find anything that says "Chip Shop Style" on the packet that even remotely resembles anything from a Chippy, especially fish.
Yes not very good Martin at all
I have eaten the Ballineen sausage but deep fry them, much better batter, Must be on the lookout for the Harry Ramsdens sausage I do like his jumbo fish finger.
Good point
Even though I'm now a type one diabetic as a treat I will have a battered sausage...and I've tried the Harry Ramsdens ones and they could be an awful lot better...
Pork content is tricky to work out as they say how many percent of the whole is sausage, then the percentage of pork within that sausage. HR works out as 76g per 100g of product is sausage, pork is 56% of that = 42.56g. Other is 55g of 100g of product is sausage, pork is 60% of that = 32g. I could be completely wrong though…..
I think the way they list it is deliberately vague and should be clearer.
Cheers Martin good point you seem to know what you're talking about. Have a good night pal
@@BaldFoodieGuy I wouldn’t say I know what I’m talking about 😂 but thanks. Love your vids mate
Aldi do a fake away brand, Sugar free, chinese mild curry flavour sauce. Might be worth comparing with heinz's if your local has it in stock :)
Thanks for the tips!
Try the Harry Ramsden ordinary pack of 4 plain sausages too!
Bald food man you ever had battered black pudding... I had it last night and it was awesome
No mate, I need to though. Cheers
@@BaldFoodieGuy was from a chippy not Iceland
As the expression went.. “Look at the size of that sausage 😂”😊👍👍👍🥴..
haha
Gareth I know its a Teesside thing but seems to becoming more popular around the country but any chance of you reviewing a Middlesbrough style Chicken Parmesan ? Also you mentioned that £100 energy drink Prime in one of your lives will you be reviewing that?
Yes been trying to get one, not seen them I'm the shops over this side of the country.
Maybe you should do American corndog.😊
I've done one from Iceland
I saw those Ballineen ones frozen in Sainburys today. Says jumbo on the package but defo not jumbo as you say. Gave them a swerve. In the words of Jim Royal....Jumbo my arse! 🤣
The royal family great program that was
