Basically, start by learning some coding languages and learn how everything works. Then go from there. Also try to avoid playing video games. Video games tend to distract people from reality and learning. If you find yourself playing games hours each day, it might be a problem.
I've been working with IT infrastructure for years now. Started when I was 18, now I'm 26. I thought I was too late to start learning new things. What a sad thought I had, really, a 26 yold male thinking he's too late to learn. It's never too late. And knowledge is never wasted. Thanks for this video, it motivated me even more now. I once was developing a business management software as a website and the amount of security concerns I was facing and solving was so great that one day I just realized that, while I was trying to prevent those, a hacker just tries to exploit them. We both use the exact same tools (languages, knowledges, softwares, documentation, etc) but with different goals in mind. So I feel like that a good roadmap is, if you want to learn how to hack websites, aim at learning to make websites, and then learn how to make them safe.
I think this is a great abstract guide on how to learn anything using the DIY method. What I mean is I view hacking as a creative framework that can be applied onto any field.
A well thought out and all round brilliant video that will hopefully explain to those looking for the quick fix that there isn't one. People need to realise that hacking isn't like what's shown on TV or in movies and it actually requires hard work and dedication. Hacking is about exploring and being inquisitive to learn why things do the things that they do, so if they don't want to learn that sort of stuff then maybe hacking isn't for them.
I've always been interested in hacking, but I only recently (due to your videos, and some malware reverse-engineering videos) got REALLY interested in it. I've gone from being really interested in security and hacking prevention, to attempting some exploits to learn from them and trying to hack my own applications instead of just applying security layers, security patches and sanitizing input. I've been programming as a hobby (and partly as a freelancer) for quite a long time, but when I saw your video I noticed that my interest in hacking actually made me a better programmer. I realized that for the past two years, I've constantly thought about "what could go wrong? How can I make this more secure?" whenever I've programmed an application. While this does mean it takes painstakingly long for me to complete any project, it also mean that I've developed a sense of what might be vulnerable in an application developed by a lazy dev. Your videos have really inspired me, and I've actually started doing some CTF challenges in order to learn more from this. Thanks! :D
This was the perfect explanation. Many people say 'there is no straight path bla bla' but never say what it actually is. When you drew the path (the web), I could relate a lot to my programming history the past 5 years. And how everything was connected in a way like that. Thank you so much, you made it much clearer to me that my path is not "just trying to tag along" but that it's "one of the ways to go". You are great!
Hey man, this video was exactly what I needed. I randomly watched one of your videos a while ago and then I got suggested other Computer Science and IT videos, and I'm getting into it. I still don't understand a quarter of the stuff people say in the tutorials I watch, but it keeps me inspired, for example, I just learned how to compile and run a simple c++ programm that i wrote, from the windows console, and that little thing blew my mind. I know it's a long way but that's fine for me. Next year I'll go to University, I'll study Computer Engineering and I'll keep working on my own in a parallel way, watching tutorials, following guides, reading books and maybe, one day, I'll be able to watch and fully understand all the stuff you say in your videos xd. Thank you for your videos, man, keep up the great work!!
I love this it actually flows really well like this I've been trying to learn basic javascript and the way you went is just the broadent flow which worked well enough that I'm learning basic optical programming

I really like this video. The focus may be hacking but the advice you gave in my opinion applies to almost anything you can learn. In my case it helped realize a few things about mapping and editing videos. Thanks!
Very inspirational video. Seeing this and being shown how to create my own path is very inspirational. Being in the same situations you were in and being told that, "That target is probably too far away." is something I didn't understand until I had seen this video. Everything seems a whole lot clearer to me now and I only have you to thank for that! Thanks even though I'm a couple years late.
Pretty standard for people that don't know anything to make hacking tutorial videos. I've noticed the ones who don't really know anything are always the ones doing tutorials. The ones who really know aren't trying to teach you. This is why you will never learn to be a hacker on TH-cam. You have to do it the same way every legit hackers learns, trial and error.
lol, im 13 and I want to do this for my job, just taking down "evil hackers", testing security systems... It's going to be a long way, but we'll get there eventually
I have been struggling so many years. I always thought I was going in the wrong direction. But now I realise I have been on the right path all along. Thanks man.
Honestly while researching what to do to learn about coding, this is the best "tutorial" I've seen so far. First I wanted to learn how to program robotics or make a simple game. From there people told me that I should code, so i figured maybe I should start C#, but they told me to learn something simple like python. Now here I am learning python, learning if, else and elif statements. I guess this is the first step of many to becoming a programmer, or ethical hacker, or maybe even game dev. So yeah maybe it is more a learn as you go experience, and you kno what? I'm kinda having fun with it!
Some tips: 1)Dont learn in a systematic way such as reading book for knowledge. Also most hacking things in book already outdated. 2) learn how to ask urself question. And solve it by finding simple answer that YOU can understand. May take a while, use "passion" to accelerate the process("in the moment"). 3) follow current meta game. Now is kali linux. 4) learn to consolidate ur knowledges and learn to see similarty. 5) learn hacker mind set. Not their knowledge. Hacking knowledge is just a by product of hacking... 6) dont limit hacking to just computers... 7) change your negative belief system. REDEFINE your road block as turning point full of excitement. If you read this far, you know you are half way to be a hacker. Have fun ^_^
I find this one book incredibly helpful for any rookie who wants to be a decent programmer and/or a hacker: - Introduction to Algorithms (by Cormen and Leiserson), or a similar book Tip: mongodb is easy to learn and a lot of people do not implement its security features (or even set up admin accounts). you can also look for these databases on a certain website that tracks by keywords (besides google, but google should work too).
He is very aware with the issues of PHP. Did you see his ctf video where a crypto function always returned NULL if an array was passed into it? Crazy stuff
pi lol I remember I started learning php and then realized that it is not as efficiant as other scripting languages... I guess, after seeing this vid I now know that everything I learn, even if I don't finish it, it will help me, and this is a great example for that...
This is really clear, because I still remember how I found I can hack my own website. So if u really know how to program, you should be able to hack, if you can find weaknesses in your own work you are in the right path. Start by fixing your program vulnerability, by researching them. The more vulnerability you know you better u get.
I didn't understand lots of your videos but still, it fascinates me how you do all these figuring stuffs in programming and how should I do something similar so many Thanks to you for making this video this summarize for what next I'm going to do. I hope you read this comment.
There actually is a learning plan, but you need to study it. I'm from Germany and you can study cybersecurity there. The thing is, 1,5 years are just the basics of computer science after that you will learn more stuff that is needed often in cybersecurity jobs.
This is actually why I almost never finish projects (except for school ones). I learn what I need in order to finish the project. Then my job is done, polishing and finalizing it is just a waste of time...
that's nice and all, but it's also the mindset that lead hundreds of game developers to abandon projects and piss people off all the time. so please don't. jk
What got me into programming: When I was 13 I watched a TH-cam tutorial showing an exploit in windows 7 and I swapped the utilman and cmd file names at my school computer. While using cmd on the login screen, I made an admin account and disabled the site blocker. I was so fucking proud of myself.
This was such an eye opener.... I want to be a hacker and I thought you can learn "how to hack" now I understand that this is just as hard as trying to learn how to scientist. You can't, you learn about science, and then use your knowledge to get wherever you are planning to get. I needed to be humbled
I really love this video, especially because this knowledge of mindset doesn't only apply to hacking. Understanding the mindset you taught in this video, I feel like I could learn anything.
You explained it so well,I started by learning Java but discover that I HATE programming, then try networking, and start building a love for it,then start messing with TH-cam tutorials on how to get your neighbor wifi and then knowing all about Linux and Kali apps... Now I'm getting a degree in system administrator or ccna or whatever you call it hoping to work in cybersecurity
Wow 😳 ThankYou Bro. Maybe cliche, you kind of unwrapped my life over the last 4 or 5 years. When you said nothing's a waste of time it actually boosted my confidence for a few mins. p.s comments are gold

I started coding when I was 8 with Scratch, if you really have no idea how to code and how computers work, I really recommend using this to start coding easy games. This really jumpstarted me to where I'm at now. I'm only 15 years old and I know a bit of pretty much all of the big programming languages like Java, C#, C, C++, Python, Lua, Html, CSS, JavaScript, etc. which really helps with a lot of things
As odd as this seems, I believe this applies to any topic. I'm knee deep in trying to get into an esports scene and the only way to "make it" is to be recommended by someone respected, which means you need the knowledge to be worth recommending and the connections to be noticed, which are both things that cannot be replicated on a person to person basis. You basically just have to carve your own path and do your best with the hand you're dealt.
Amazzing man, I am already learning stuff related to IT and Cybersecurity. I have seen a variety of help vedios. But with this one, anyone can learn it. Well made!

You mean I don't just play fur elise on my keyboard with a command prompt window open? D:
Thanks! :D
Who knew a video 3 years ago spoke to me on a deep level. Thankyou.

I come back to this video a couple of times each year, I absolutely love it. Great video!

Hacking, Programming, IT, and Electronics are like huge libraries. You can start any were and it will lead you to somewhere else.
Me too
Some tips:
1)Dont learn in a systematic way such as reading book for knowledge.

I find this one book incredibly helpful for any rookie who wants to be a decent programmer and/or a hacker:
- Introduction to Algorithms (by Cormen and Leiserson), or a similar book
Tip: mongodb is easy to learn and a lot of people do not implement its security features (or even set up admin accounts). you can also look for these databases on a certain website that tracks by keywords (besides google, but google should work too).
Thanks for the recommended book. Will read it!

So if u really know how to program, you should be able to hack, if you can find weaknesses in your own work you are in the right path.
Start by fixing your program vulnerability, by researching them.
The more vulnerability you know you better u get.
The way I started was by looking up game console hacking tutorials, tech hardware repair, etc.

just * do it, even if you think you won't finish it. finishing a project may be less useful than moving on to do something new/more challenging.
yeah very true!

What got me into programming: When I was 13 I watched a TH-cam tutorial showing an exploit in windows 7 and I swapped the utilman and cmd file names at my school computer. While using cmd on the login screen, I made an admin account and disabled the site blocker. I was so fucking proud of myself.
