    Been using the same load components - 46.5 BLC2 at 2730 FPS with a savage hog hunter 20" barrel. was my best group. All the speeds much above 2800 were just like yours.

    BLC2 & 308 is really, really old school. I haven't loaded 308 with BLC2 since the 80s. IMR-4064 has been my go to since the 90s.

    Computer simulation is nice...however, when "bullet hits the barrel", you need to do live testing to know for certain.
    Thanks Dave. 👍

    Go up in 1/8grain incriminate from that 48.5gr . That's what I'd do. Half grain incriminate is too of a jump too much at that top pressure area. Just small tweaks will dramatically change accuracy at that pressure

    • @davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho8009
      @davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho8009  ปีที่แล้ว

      Agree, but other powder bullet combos give me better results. Sd's, Es's, velocity and accuracy are more inline with CFE-223. Thanks for your comment.

    I just loaded some 308 150grFMJBT,used BL-C2,started my loads 47.2gn .Casings where getting stuck and the primer was flat. I was shooting a Savage 110 Tactical 24'' barrel. Tomorrow I will work my way down from 47.2...

      What's the headstamp on the cases you are using? Do you have a chronograph? My Savage has a very tight chamber and on many powders I have to be well below max listed loads. The chronograph has saved my bacon lots of times . Best of luck to you.

      @@brokenarrow2835 Sounds like you know what you are doing. Yes, lower charge weight and double check your case length and bullet seating depth. CFE-223 did the same to me as well and I had to reduce the load by 2 1/2 full grains and still the speed was above 2,900 fps.

  • @stevedragovich909
    @stevedragovich909 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I have a Socom and a Aero target rifle but both prefer slower speeds to obtain decent groups. I do use Blc-2 in the Socom pushing a 150 fmj at 1750 fps. The AR-10 prefers Varget pushing a 175 bthp at 1550fps. My experience is semi autos don't do well at high pressure and speed.

    Thank you for the good data & demo on these calibers. What barrel length is this 308.? Maybe that contributed to the very good velocities.

    Does your scope check out ok, or is the erector tube bouncing back and forth under recoil of every other shot? Just picked up a lb of Winchester StaBall Match and am looking forward to trying it in my Rem 700 20" heavy barrel .308.

    Cold vs warm barrel difference between first and second shots? Else this is a really solid hunting round workup. What ends up being your largest criteria for which powder weight to use -- grouping size?

    • @davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho8009
      @davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho8009  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Grouping size at a solid rest, plus the consistency of velocity, SD's and ES's for load precision test only. Next, the first Cold barrel/cold shooter shot placement near the point of Aim and not too far from the follow up shots and is repeatable is ideal. Lastly, based upon the Velocity numbers, knowing the rifle/ammo combos Maximum Point Blank Range. Then onto the next handload combo test until the ideal for hunting is met.

    Dave, I've always wanted to try BL-C(2) in my 308! I always used Varget powder, But at $50+ lbs. not going there!!! On the Savage rifle I have found all my Savage rifles like the hottest loads for the most accurate groups! Hope this helps you. Give me your thoughts on BL-C(2) powder???

    • @davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho8009
      @davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho8009  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Everybody suggests Varget so I bought 2 lbs. Going to be an interesting test. BL-C2 works well in .223/5.56. As you saw here on the .308, more testing with different bullets is necessary.
