Esmeralda is definitely Disney's most underrated character and so is the movie.. I understand that it contains more mature and darker themes than regular Disney films (which is part of the reason why not many people like it or let their children watch it) but honestly it's filled with such amazing characters that I feel like little kids are missing out on learning so many great values. It's truly a remarkable movie and I wish people appreciated it more.. *mic drop*

Hunchback Of Notre Dame, Pocahontas, Hercules and The Princess And The Frog are four absolutely classic Disney films with female characters that I think will in the long run all age better than those in Frozen. Seriously, Hunchback needs a Platinum Edition DVD rerelease with a real genuine EVENT RELEASE approach.

Meg from Hercules is probably one of my favourite Disney characters. I have such warm childhood memories about the whole film. And Nani from Lilo & Stich is such an amazingly real character.
Great list, underrated female characters AND movies. I hate how underrated Hercules, both Rescuers films (and the sequel is one of those RARE Disney sequels that is way better than the original) Atlantis, and The Emperor's New Groove (both of them are two of Disney's funniest films, along with Hercules) I feel out of this whole list Nala has gotten the most talk and props, but she is one of my faves. The others are Bianca (I actually forgot about her lol) Jane, Meg, and Esmeralda. I love how sassy, sarcastic, and smartassy Meg is, and it's a great contrast to what a straight arrow, boy scout like guy Hercules is. Their an underrated couple as well, love them together. Also love Esmeralda and how she stood up for Quasimodo. I loved Pocahontas too, she's one of my favorite Disney princesses (right behind Mulan and Tiana) I saw Pocahontas as a kid and didn't really like it (and the ending threw me for a loop, first bad ending in a Disney film I saw lol) I liked it way more when I got older.

Naia Lion when I was younger it bothered me but I like that he never holds a grudge against her for it. Yeah it hurts him but he never abandons her friendship and gains another friend. He's a real friend, loyal and kind. Besides who ends up with another girl in the sequel. (movie is terrible though)
Here's how it goes: -Frollo saw her as a whore -Quasimodo saw her as a Madonna -Phoebus saw her as a person Ergo, Phoebus truly earned her love (unlike the book, where he's an adulterous asshole who gets away with it).

True, but Disney said she didn't fit into the Disney Princess criteria for a variety of reasons. First off, the Atlantis movie did not center on her. Second, she didn't sing a notable song. And third (spoiler), she became queen at the end of the film.

I love them all, especially nani. Imagine being a normal teen when you're suddenly forced to grow up too soon, get a job, and be a role model for a younger sibling. All while grieving for your parents and brother and wishing they were there to help
I thought Frozen handled it fine. Elsa and Anna WERE more or less separated from each other from most of their lives so they aren't exactly going to act the way that sisters "normally" act. Nani and Lilo have a more common type of sibling relationship but that doesn't mean that Elsa and Anna's isn't accurate, considering the unique circumstances they found themselves in. I have two sisters myself and one of them still lives in the same house as me and the other lives in another town and my relationship with the first is similar to Lilo and Nani's relationship and my relationship with the other is more akin to Anna and Elsa's (in the beginning of the movie, anyway, the part where they're still able to laugh and joke around with each other but because they've been separated so long talking with them can be awkward and it's hard for them to connect like they used to. My relationship with my sister isn't EXACTLY like Anna and Elsa's but there are enough parallels that I can relate to some of the interactions the two girls have with one another).

Atlantis is awesome. the animation is dodgy in parts but it's one of my favourites. Audrey is a really cool character that is definitly underrated. A mechincal genius and just seventeen!

I second you. I've been in love with the whole Greek culture and everything since I learned about the Ancient Greeks and Greek mythology in the first grade. Then seeing Hercules. And now I have a couple of friends who are Greek. And I learn a lot more things about the whole Greek culture and the language. Oh my gosh, the language. It's so beautiful. I love when they talk in Greek and I love when my friend says her middle name because she gets this beautiful Greek accent when she says it (it's a Greek name). Greek people are really beautiful too. The ones that I know are stunning. My friend would definitely make a good Megara because she's so beautiful. And if they showed like Herc and Meg getting married, there's a beautiful Greek tradition that they should do. It's this crowning thing where the bride and groom have crowns of flowers placed on their heads that are attached together by, I forget what exactly I think like a ribbon or something, and they walk around a table three times while the priest I think is praying in Greek.

I hate how underrated Hercules, both Rescuers films (and the sequel is one of those RARE Disney sequels that is way better than the original) Atlantis, and The Emperor's New Groove (both of them are two of Disney's funniest films, along with Hercules) I feel out of this whole list Nala has gotten the most talk and props, but she is one of my faves. The others are Bianca (I actually forgot about her lol) Jane, Meg, and Esmeralda. I love how sassy, sarcastic, and smartassy Meg is, and it's a great contrast to what a straight arrow, boy scout like guy Hercules is. Their an underrated couple as well, love them together. Also love Esmeralda and how she stood up for Quasimodo. The Hunchback of Notre Dame is underrated as well but it is their most adult film IMO, it's one of those films that little kids just won't truly understand until their older. I think I was 11 when it came out and I had no interest in seeing it (and I was a Disney stan) I didn't see it till I was grown, it's a great film.

when i was a kid i was absolutely obsessed with esmeralda. i loved the movie's message and the fact that she was both strong and atrractive. for the same reason i loved pocahontas and i hated the barbie movies. so, what i'm trying to say is that preferances are relative
I loved Pocahontas too, she's one of my favorite Disney princesses (right behind Mulan and Tiana) I saw Pocahontas as a kid and didn't really like it (and the ending threw me for a loop, first bad ending in a Disney film I saw lol) I liked it way more when I got older.

Naia Lion when I was younger it bothered me but I like that he never holds a grudge against her for it. Yeah it hurts him but he never abandons her friendship and gains another friend. He's a real friend, loyal and kind. Besides who ends up with another girl in the sequel. (movie is terrible though)

True, but Disney said she didn't fit into the Disney Princess criteria for a variety of reasons. First off, the Atlantis movie did not center on her. Second, she didn't sing a notable song. And third (spoiler), she became queen at the end of the film.

I love them all, especially nani. Imagine being a normal teen when you're suddenly forced to grow up too soon, get a job, and be a role model for a younger sibling. All while grieving for your parents and brother and wishing they were there to help
Nani and lilo sister relationship is the most Realistic, Having a sister myself i don't think frozen was a good representation of how sisters act.
I thought Frozen handled it fine. Elsa and Anna WERE more or less separated from each other from most of their lives so they aren't exactly going to act the way that sisters "normally" act. Nani and Lilo have a more common type of sibling relationship but that doesn't mean that Elsa and Anna's isn't accurate, considering the unique circumstances they found themselves in.
I have two sisters myself and one of them still lives in the same house as me and the other lives in another town and my relationship with the first is similar to Lilo and Nani's relationship and my relationship with the other is more akin to Anna and Elsa's (in the beginning of the movie, anyway, the part where they're still able to laugh and joke around with each other but because they've been separated so long talking with them can be awkward and it's hard for them to connect like they used to. My relationship with my sister isn't EXACTLY like Anna and Elsa's but there are enough parallels that I can relate to some of the interactions the two girls have with one another).

oh man, major nostalgia with this list. Meg is one of my absolute favorite Disney characters, period. Love her sass and attitude- also her song is my favorite in "Hercules". And Yzma- Eartha Kitt made her the amazing character she is, hands down.

I second you. I've been in love with the whole Greek culture and everything since I learned about the Ancient Greeks and Greek mythology in the first grade. Then seeing Hercules. And now I have a couple of friends who are Greek. And I learn a lot more things about the whole Greek culture and the language. Oh my gosh, the language. It's so beautiful. I love when they talk in Greek and I love when my friend says her middle name because she gets this beautiful Greek accent when she says it (it's a Greek name). Greek people are really beautiful too. The ones that I know are stunning. My friend would definitely make a good Megara because she's so beautiful. And if they showed like Herc and Meg getting married, there's a beautiful Greek tradition that they should do. It's this crowning thing where the bride and groom have crowns of flowers placed on their heads that are attached together by, I forget what exactly I think like a ribbon or something, and they walk around a table three times while the priest I think is praying in Greek.
