It's not just a matter of Supply & Demand anymore, now it's just an outright Ripoff.
So now the real solution is going to be passing Laws for that too!!
Such as----Rent can not go up more than 5% per year......

Well said, but in a Republican state with an idiot for a governor it will be hard to do. Best wishes from upstate NY!!!!!

Exactly, my rent 3 bedroom will raised $500 = $1,900
I have no choice but to be homeless. Can not afford to move anywhere due to it being more for less.

How about capped rental increases to 5% or less. My sisters rent went from $2100 to $3300 for a 3/2

6% increase in demand with a 4% decrease ( and increasing) lower supply = higher rents...this won't stop for at least a decade...the millions they are tossing at this won't help.

My rent was raised $400/mo more and now my 2bed apartment (now owned by an 'investment firm') went to more than $1500/mo. It was $900 when I moved in 10 years ago. I make $14.91/hr and this is with an AS and BSAS. This new rental assistance program is already closed. In a few days and sadly it appears they'll be helping single people who make $70k/yr and leaving others like me with a child who earn less than half in the dark. The sad thing is there isn't even anywhere to go as rent-restricted apartments have a year-plus wait. Section 8 and all programs have been closed. I got rid of my car as I couldn't afford it so I have a feeling they will soon have an eviction and homelessness crisis if someone doesn't do something soon. My rent is 80% of my income and I can't qualify for a home because of my low income working as a public servant for the state.

Oh and here is what no one is mentioning. People who qualified for the $1000 apartment wont necessarily qualify for that same apartment if it is now $1400 since many leasing companies require that you make 3x the amount of your rent. Plus it sounds great on paper but if you show up to a complex with the checks from an assistance program it does not mean they will take it. That has happened to me. They need to change the laws and cap the increases in order to truly protect people. I hope some people are able to actually use this new assistance.
