Honestly let's be real this is a fighting game based on a early 2000's VN, back when these designs were considered original and not generic as we see em now. What does these people expect. I'm fine with people disliking the character designs in Melty Blood, since what a person finds appealing visually is completely subjective, and is going to VARY from person to person. Personally, I only really get annoyed when people hate on the look of a character for a specific reason , when the stuff they do like the look of shares the SAME features visually. Examples of this include people not liking Melty Blood for having kids in school uniforms, and saying it's bland for a fighting game, but my issue with this is the fact that many of these SAME people HAD NO PROBLEM with the look of Persona 4 Arena, which is a fighting game where many of the characters had the EXACT same thing look, which were characters in school uniforms. Another example I'll give is people criticizing Melty Blood for not having variety in the character designs, with them complaining that there is too many maids, but these SAME people love characters like Ryu, Ken, Akuma, and Sean from Street Fighter. ALL of which have very similar character designs, which is a basic karate outfit. The last example I'll give is when when I read comments of Guilty Gear fans saying they hate BlazBlue for being too anime, which makes no sense to me because in my opinion BOTH "BlazBlue Central Fiction" and "Guilty Gear XRD REV" are similar in that regard. For example, Both games have characters their wear clothes with unnecessary accessories, such as the belts on Sol and Ragna. Ehhh I get what you’re trying to say, but I think the P4 designs are significantly better than Melty Blood’s on average. Since you were talking about the high schoolers… Yes, many of the Persona 4 characters are in school uniforms, but most of the high school characters have some sort of indicator in their character designs that tells you something about who they are/what they’re like. Chie wears a zip up jacket with yellow highlights as throwback to Bruce Lee -> you can guess she’s a sporty tomboy. Yukiko has this well tailored red jacket and her fans -> you can guess that she has a sense of traditional elegance. Kanji has a skull t-shirt, and his school jacket is hanging off his shoulders… and is about to whack you with a fold out chair -> you know he’s a delinquent. In comparison some (not all!) of the Melty Blood characters feel under designed. E.g. if I didn’t have prior knowledge about anime school boy with knife, woman in t-shirt + jeans, girl in white sweater + skirt, high school girl 1 and 2... I’d have no idea what to think about them. I’ll grant you that the P4 main character and Yosuke have a similar issue… I.e. they are anime school boy with sword and anime school boy with knives lol Re: the Street Fighter characters, they’re kind of old enough now to be classic designs in their own right, but more importantly, their designs tell you something important about them and set them apart from each other: Ryu is a stoic and dedicated martial artist, Ken is his buddy/rival who is a bit more hotheaded, and Akuma is their dark and evil foil. @@lapis3965 hey no probs my dude, I’m definitely not taking any of this personally, and I hope you aren’t either. I’m just having a chill convo and trying to explain why I think it’s not incoherent to think the P4 designs are pretty good, and the Melty Blood designs are a little bland. I guess it might help to define my own terms: I personally think that good character design is made up of 1) good aesthetics (I.e. does it look good) and 2) communicating something about the characters (I.e. does it tell us something about them, their personality, their role in their world, etc.). So IMO the idea that a character design can convey something about the character’s personality isn’t irrelevant to the basic question: “Do I think it’s a good design?” For the record, I have no problem with having high school characters in high school uniform. It’s a question of what the designers are able to communicate with the uniform that can make the difference between feeling bland or not. In which case IMO Persona did a better job on average with communicating things about their characters.
I never understood why people defended the designs for melty blood so hard on twitter I thought it was common knowledge most designs were bland. Game still good though
The best part about Yumizuka Satsuki is that her looking like "background character #121314" is exactly what made her story in VN hit me as hard as it did. Mainly that she even HAD a story. She IS a forgettable background character in first two routes. Than she gets some story... and the fact that this character that you forgot about had things like that.... Overall, best girl 10/10, she IS looking like generic background character, but imo, this is a good thing in her case.
To the twitter warriors - What matters is that the gameplay looks good, down to animation and systems, and they have been very open about how the game flow is. If you are looking at the character trailers and still spouting "but no drip" then this game isn't for you. What defines the genre fighting game isn't art style it's what the game does. We are in a fighting game boom right now with all the things that are active/releasing. If it ain't your game it ain't your game, but don't sit there and pretend like you actually care about the conversation when ppl try to tell you about game and all you can say is "but the drip". Aight rant done
As someone who loves the game I somewhat agree, but if you like the look of literally none of the characters then you aint gonna want to play the game. This part of the reason I gave up on tekken tbh.
@@TheCajanator Totally agree. I really liked the idea of playing SFV, but nobody stood out to me and made me think, "that's my character!". I'd like to try Melty, but the only designs that appeal to me are Ryougi Shiki and Nero. If I don't like the playstyle of either, there's not really any reason for me to play Melty over any other fighting game.
Your rant falls apart when you forget that literally anyone who ever got into fighting games most likely picked characters who LOOKED cool to them. Even veterans still pick cool looking characters because that's part of the game. You're going to be spending hours upon hours looking at the same character and you probably want to look dope af in training mode or in online matches. Of course the gameplay matters at the end of the day, but if you don't identify with literally any of the characters, gameplay or look-wise, then people won't want to play said game. You look at new anime or comics or video games and SEE cool or interesting characters, then you probably try them out to see if you actually like it. First impressions are integral, and tbh, yeah the Melty characters look like basic anime tropes which is fine but they lack variety aside from Schoolgirl #30 or Maid #2. If you vibe with that stuff, because you've SEEN it before or it appeals to you visually, then of course you'll love it. This just doesn't vibe with many people and that's also okay. But don't downplay character artstyle or drip like it's not important. It's the first thing people do when judging LITERALLY ANYTHING.
@@leovanilla6833 You say my rant falls apart but then you "This doesn't vibe with many ppl and that's okay" and that was the point of my rant, alot of what ppl vibe with when it comes to design is also about how it looks during gameplay, a character can look sick af to you but you could hate their gameplay so in the end you prob won't play that character, my rant was towards ppl who were never going to play the game to begin with and just copying the "But no drip" words. Not liking the art style is valid, but and if it ain't for you it ain't for you. Some games are just like that.
Neko Arc and all the maids have a lot of drip. You're just jealous. It's an easy problem to fix, though. Just wear a maid outfit and cat ears. Then you'll have drip, too.
nah that is now how it works. Haters always be complaining about cool cats who can project their charisma but choose to wear simple things that compliment them. Meanwhile said haters be the ones overcomplicating their fashion style and overcompensate by wearing Balenciagas that don't even match the color of their fit. Real pitiful thing.
on GOD Akiha Tohno and Seifuku is literally just generic girl in school uniform (and apparently Sei gets a shorter skirt as a "distinction") and then we got VAkiha out here dripped as all hell
10:30 well, Type moon confirmed than the "teams" characters, are going to come back, and probably the clones too, and the big character issue is going to still there I guess
I never liked all the clones in MBAA, but then again not like it matter to me as all I ever played was Arcueid. Time to become an NPC in Type Lumina and leave my name as MB Player and keep playing default color Arcueid.
Alright here's my problem with Meltyblood, individually the characters look fine and their designs do what as expected for a VN. Problem is though is that all of them being on the same roster makes the entire roster bland and doesn't make any character pop out at you to try out except for a handful. A design either has to sell you with it's aesthetic or tell you something about the character mechanically such as their build or weapons, but in Meltyblood all the characters have the same build and a very small color palette all the characters blend in with each other and don't really give you much to work with for character selection unless you want to go one by one and try them out but that's really time consuming and I think there's something to say about being able to connect with a character at a first glance or at the least catch your eye to try out later and then find a character who matches you mechanically. Honestly I'll be real, they probably should've just chose Fate, would've sold like hotcakes and probably be one of the best character rosters of all time

We don't really know much about TL's story mode aside from a few details, but if you're after story, then get the new Tsukihime. From what I understand Type Lumina is just a side story for the new Tsukihime VN, so I wouldn't expect a "lengthy" story from TL to be honest. Tsukihime is dope though.

Again, I'm fine with people disliking the character designs in Melty Blood, since what a person finds appealing visually is completely subjective, and is going to VARY from person to person. Like how people can hate on Shiki for being generic looking, but have the audacity to say there fine with Yu, Yosuke, and Yukiko's designs. Again, how these designs can reflect what there personalities are like was NEVER part of the argument.
0/10 not enough belts, buckles, headbands, or weird hats
Shiki Nanaya looks so cool. Its not just the clothes, its the stance, the grin, the wild eyes.
The coolest.
nanaya shiki so cool
I never understood why people defended the designs for melty blood so hard on twitter I thought it was common knowledge most designs were bland. Game still good though
Simple does not equal bad
"Designs are boring and bland so the game must be too".
@@mar2ck_ But to them, simple = lazy which in turn = bad. So simple = boring = bad.
@@iguoyrxayananikihs9505 Re-read OP's comment and see how much of a clown you look like
@@tobasaful wait they were talking about me I said the game was good 💀
7:08 Yeah, but they keep the dripless one in Tsukihime Remake recently. The redesign appears in the prequel which take place years back then.
Mankind knew they cannot change society. So instead of reflecting on themselves, they blamed the Dripless???
The best part about Yumizuka Satsuki is that her looking like "background character #121314" is exactly what made her story in VN hit me as hard as it did.
Mainly that she even HAD a story. She IS a forgettable background character in first two routes. Than she gets some story... and the fact that this character that you forgot about had things like that....
Overall, best girl 10/10, she IS looking like generic background character, but imo, this is a good thing in her case.
Jiyuna now we need the video of drip for GG strive and KOF XV , I can’t sleep well without knowing the tier list
tell hook to improve his drip when he's on stream
I love Roa desing and the guy literally wears a open shirt and jeans. I always prefer hair and facial expressions when it comes to character's desing
I love Jiyuna. By the time he talks about a "hot button topic" it's lukewarm at best; hence allowing cooler minds to prevail. And that's drip.
So if the game still doesn't vibe with you after watching character trailers, then it prob isn't your game.
I thought Aoko was announced and got light headed. I actually like her fit though.
Simple != basic. Ryougi's drip is off the charts though.
@@t4d0W I get you but I'm just trying to convince him to be a catgirl maid on stream. Bonus points if we can get him to say, "NYAH!"
Without clones, this game wins out on Drip.
It's their fault for having so many clones.
on GOD Akiha Tohno and Seifuku is literally just generic girl in school uniform (and apparently Sei gets a shorter skirt as a "distinction") and then we got VAkiha out here dripped as all hell
Professor Jiyuna coming with the facts and maths.
Melty is one of the game where people simultaneously have to die for their color and at the same time never have someone with the same color as them
Kids this days think games have to be drip to be a good game
10:30 well, Type moon confirmed than the "teams" characters, are going to come back, and probably the clones too, and the big character issue is going to still there I guess
Drip aside, those idle animations look *chef kiss
Honestly I'll be real, they probably should've just chose Fate, would've sold like hotcakes and probably be one of the best character rosters of all time
I'm done with this channel, it's no longer grassroots.
unless we talkin about ace attorney, vn characters will NEVER have drip
except kouma my man my boy my son
i don't understand why everyone thinks Melty Blood characters are dripless i think Jeans and T-shirt are hella drip
For some reason, Melty Blood's Character Roster seems like that of Dragon Ball Fighterz...
The point allocation is rig in this contest I want to re-count
The 27 Drip Apostle Ancestors are going to bring in all the drip!
Guilty gear +r vs xrd rev 2 vs strive freak mechanics and simplification who has the most drip lmboooo that would be fire
Well yes, blood can drip.
Yeah, like you said. They don't have to like the design. If they like others things, that alone is enough to me.
I like to play Warachia because he's basically Zato without Eddie.
The more accessible puppet character: Summon character.
Love Wara to death, hope he makes it into Lumina.
**Casto Cutto**
wtf does that mean?
@@MsMvsc A lot of his moves are similar to Zato in X/X2. His forward heavy, he has the "drills" he's like a weird mix of Zato and Testament as far as his normals and specials and I really dig it.
I demand a RECOUNT. We will not be silenced! Bring down Animeilluminati!
They literally be lookin like the cast of the most generic d-list harem anime you could find.
As a new “follower” i’d enjoy a lengthy story mode with gameplay that was missing from strive. I’ve only ever watched the anime series and just super interested in whats in store for the rest of the nasuverse through this game. I’m starting to appreciate how dripless they are because of the fact that- i’m sure in game and lore wise they’re definitely drippy. Except for Neco Arc.
Maybe they can give Aoko her trench coat and have her behave the way she did in Carnival Phantasm (a pervert).
I don't think I needed Critic Jiyuna to tell me that Melty Blood was Dripless 😏
I'm a satsuki main through and through, but I have to secondary ryougi just for her drip fr fr
maid outfit is all the drip i need 💧
is this a camouflage drip tier list? what's going on here?
Shiki : removes glasses
Jiyuna : Holy hell he's a drip god
Gonna use the colour editor to make her as close as :jiyuDripless:
You know you're old when you see a video about "drip" and you have no idea wtf that even means.
Aoko is dripped out in mahoutsukai no yoru
yall really hating on the 90s drip.
I think vanilla designs are fine at attracting outsiders. Characters like sakura and ryu and ken are hella vanilla and loads of people play them.
Sakura isn't really generic as of SF5
This is gonna be tough its either type lumina or gg strive for me.
I could listen to jiyuna while working out instead of music.
Neko arc chaos may be disgusting in game but he got mad drip
Aoko is peak fighting game character design
She shops at Target.
How to make tohno drip:
Give him his jacket from the manga.
The only thing dripping is homegirl's eyeball in that thumbnail 😭
People need to respect Kouma’s drip. The coat cape seals the deal. 😤
nope and it doesn't matter. i wouldn't have it any other way.
DBFZ player, you know, that game with half of the roster are goku an vegeta and that 90% are handled in the same way...
2:47 drip is ok if you're close to the router
I think the count wring Arcueid and Kohaku got drip. The broom got a sword and the blue ribbon!!!
Honestly, while Aoko may not "have drip", she does look real good. It's genuinely impressive how great the developers made "jeans and a t-shirt" look.
I like this man's videos before the first ads even over.
That's the spirit.
They just need more belts.
Interestingly enough, I am a zoomer and I like the designs very much! I think they strike a good balance between grounded and drip designs. Very hyped for the release, going to be my first Melty Blood!
It's gonna be fun.
So the faster the hair and clothes flow the more evil they are?
Well, in the first place those characters dont was made for a fighting game, except Sion, Ries and Warachia.
bro tricked us. this vid is essentially a tier list
In all honesty Lumina could be cool as shit gameplay wise but the only reason why it’s getting so much press in the FGC is because they have the greatest character designs in the industry.
