    You hit the point. There is no kite that covers everything and is perfect for everyone. As a beginner, you can buy every reasonably current freeride kite without hesitation. In Europe many kite schools recommend Core Kites, especially the Core XR. I always tell my students: Before you buy your first kite, go to a shop or a testival and test the material. Of course, core kites are among the best you can buy, but does that break as a beginner? Certainly not. Can also be 3-4 years old, as long as linen and cloth are still in order.
    I like your video, keep it up.

    I'm currently riding an ozone instinct edge that was in storage of a lady who never ended up using it. I got it for $100. I'm very happy with it and I'm out shredding in surf for hours. No one pump but who gives a shit when new kites can go for over 2500.00 Absolutely ridiculous pricing considering they're made in china or Malaysia for a tiny fraction of the retail value. Design does deserve some profit but really I mean it hasn't been leaps and bounds every time they bring out a new model which is every year. They should really last longer than they do for what they sell them plus a lot of people stay away from kiting due to learning curve and pricing. Great channel by the way. Big thumbs up ; ) from Australia.

      Thanks a lot! I agree on that that the kite prices are fairly high, but that's the thing opening the place for smaller brands - I believe. You got lucky with that kite, this is once lifetime stuff, so keep it in good shape. Bladders might need some extra love with time! Thanks for all the compliments, happy kiting!

      Yeah, kites after 2012 (maybe even after 2010) will provide a safe depower but the bladders and the one pump tubes getting old. Heat, salt, UV... I guess that's in the business :)

    Great video! I bought my first kites new (naish cult 2009) and a few years ago again new cabrinha switchblades. Was disappointed with how few difference I felt. A bit snappier but kite evolution has really topped off in my opinion. Just wave kites feel different. For the rest, don’t fall for the marketing bullshit and enjoy your kites! With an almost-beginner level, I use a 9-year old, high ratio 5-struts ASV 17.5 in 18-20 knots when everyone uses only their brand new 9/10, and all say I am totally crazy to go out with a 17.5 while still learning. The truth is the sail is slow so super forgiving, holds very comfortably when locked close to the water and it is very usable from 10 to 20 sqm for great free rides plus it sails much closer to the wind than recent tube kites, allowing me to still go out in the surf with on-shore wind. All in all this is my only sail which I paid 80 euros for and this is my beloved workhorse and it allows me to progress and only spend more money for a tubeless kite when I get better ❤️

      I am glad you are happy with it! However, i encourage you to try out other kites first before buying all the same one :)) ! The first kite is always love and love is blind, right? :) but hopefully not deaf! :D I flew a lot of kites, did a whole season on Slingshot Rallies and turbines, and somehow the love did not come.. Unfortunately, they had a lot of issues with quality! And when i say a lot that means a LOT! Hope yours still in one peace! @@EpicGust Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, my 2014 Slingshot is in the post as I type. I really haven't had any problems with my current Slingshot Rally, I've been using it for two years now (30hours) in salt water (San Jorge, Galicia). I kinda made a calculated risk and only time will tell. But I definately agree with you that I should use more brands. I learnt with a Core, which was great. I am the same I have been kiting a year I have 5 kites that cost me a total of $1300, mostly old cabrinha switchblades.
    Though on a plus side I have learn't to change bladders and valves myself and alot more about different kites, tuning bars etc than I would of if I bought new.
    I am currently saving for an ocean Rodeo allulah roam. Looking forward to getting my first new kite. I agree with what you said and at my level I am not going to be able to articulate the difference really anyway I imagine. I want to go for that kite because they are the strongest, and lightest kite on the market. Which sounds like a win win to me.

    • @EpicGust
      @EpicGust  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good saving strategies. Honestly, i am not a fan of Switchblades, but i can see they good for starting out, you got the pulling truck feeling. just slow. but that's beneficial for certain disciplines and levels. I recommend trying it. Lately the OK kiteboarder Kyle dropped a nice video and that allula doesnt seem to be a powerful kite. it has its own usability, but maybe not the allround market, rather foil? do your test prior, thats an expensive ride! :)

  • @keendnb
    @keendnb ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm a beginner that's transitioning from Windsurfing. I've bought a core XR7 9m and this kite compared to F-ONE 9m is insane. I'd like to think a kite is a kite but I believe there are differences. I agree though that recent kites are all good regardless of brand, not that I'm an expert is just my opinion.

    • @EpicGust
      @EpicGust  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In this case - i guess this is an Fone Bandit that you mention, you comparing apples to pears. The Core XR series is a bow shaped hybrid kite with lot of initial pull just by pulling the bar. THe bandit is a delta c shape and all this makes the difference that you feeling. If i want to translate the whole situation to cars and engines - It is like comparing a dodge jeep to a porshe 911. One has a lot of torque - but lower high speed - the dodge. THe Porshe may need higher input - so better driving ability - to get fast quick but then the top speed is far higher - this would be the 911. Each has its on place and benefits, and on certain stages of learing you will find useful one against the other. I personally vote for the bandit shape, due the faster turns and nimble kite. The diameter of the core loop is just too big for my taste. Yet the core hangtime and lift is unbeatable.

    • @keendnb
      @keendnb ปีที่แล้ว

      @@EpicGust that is a great explanation and yes I believe it was a bandit. My other kite is a crazy fly 13 2016 model. I totally love this kite because if I'm on it, it means the conditions are more my level of riding plus it's super stable and predictable..... I'm totally shit by the way but the learning curve alone has me hooked, I've been missing some great Windsurfing sessions in favour of downwind rides and long walks 🤣..... You've got a great channel by the way I love your metaphoric approach 🤙

    The best kite is the kite you like the best after trying. Or well the one you thought looks more awesome then every other kite.
    I started with lots of old kites in the beginning,Wipika airblast, Naish X2 and X3 then I got A few Best Yargas (great kites to learn with but they litterally came apart every session) Then i got a Best Waroo 2007, and boy was that kite great.
    Later on i started to work for Epic Kiteboarding, and i happen to love the kites. The 2010 Screamer been my kite fo 8 years and i will get newer ones later on. But i also started testing other kites due to my work last year. I loved the Fluid kites, which was a suprise for me because i feared i wouldnt like them at all. But every kite in their line up worked for me, specially the SKY is an amazing kite for me. I tried other kites from all kinds of brands and i liked many of them just not as much as the fluids and epics.

    • @EpicGust
      @EpicGust  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We are soo much on the same page! Got several bad kites (didn't know they were bad i had fun learning on them) like the wipika - back in time I had to be frugal - but then the Waroo made me progress rapidly. Let's face it - it had depower finally so I lost my fear. That's a big thing in kiting, that allows you to progress! NEver tried the kites you mentioned but boy I want to try the epic kites! Dimitry is a crazy fella and I love the way he presents stuff. Life is too sort to go mainstream - huh? SO TURE! I tried big brands and I do like them but the business tendency is to cut cost on material and ask bigger prices. Not something I can share! Right? :) Happy kiting fellow rider!

      @EpicGust  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yo, I was teaching the last 3 summers on those kites. Fone one. Shape wise is actually not so far from the bandit. It loops great. Has huge hangtime. And pull and go style, gives a nice amount of power. I suggest investing in to more kite time or lesson time, and expect higher jumps from that. A new or different kite won't take you higher or won't make it easier, no matter what the marketers say. You have the right tool in your hand. What will bring you higher? it is your refined technique. It is your ability to load the lines more. It is your explosive pop. Invest in skills mate. In case you lacking the right push I am happy to coach you through this. It will cost a lot less than a new kite. And a year later when you buy that new bad boy those skills will take you to the 🌒🌙💪💪

However, I think I'll work more on the technique and wait for that new bad boy.. let's keep in touch 😉🤙🏻

    I just got some ozone amp's (c kites set up in 5th line mode) 2nd hand. There amazing. There re launch pretty well to. In the few sessions I've been out on them I progressed more trick wise than I have for year's on hybrid kites. They turn so fast. People are all to quick to write off Cs without really understanding the potential they offer. The best thing people can do is stop obsessing about going big and nail that same simple trick to your weaker side as well. I look around most of my local spots and all I see is people trying kite loop, jump high, freeride or do a back role. The skill set over the years is definitely declining. Kites are way to over priced as well. In 2007 you could buy a 12m complete for under £1000 now there like £1700 complete. It's not about the kite, it's the rider.

    • @EpicGust
      @EpicGust  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I really love that line about nailing that trick on the weak side! Can't agree more.
      Yet you will always see that one guy who is far from the required skill level, yet he rides his Vegas on a surfboard. Chose your weapon according to your style and level! Pure C is great, i love it, but i know how bad it is for someone who try to progress from beginner/riding upwind level.
      I love going big, and loop it so i feel those guys on your home spot bro :) It is all about having fun and fun means different things to all of us. And that is OK :)
      Prices - i am not sure you counting with inflation (since 2008 30%) and other global factors. Enjoy the powerzone whatever way you feel like!

      Like your approach! Well the thing is that as an instructor I meet many many kiters such as fresh and senior kiter and facing this issue that they have an idea about kiting or about a brand that almost religious. They ride Cabrinha/North/Best/whatevs since the beginning and that's the best, period. Also beginners who getting a fuel or Vegas and having no idea what's wrong with them and than Quit kiting. People riding a Vegas since forever with surfboard. Or having foil kites and touching no tubes. I think that's an issue an could be better so made up this video to give an objective perspective. Also helpful for a full beginner before buying a kite. I have been riding many brands an also finding this small one I mentioned opened my eyes too about costs and quality. Probably you are riding since long it is might not new for you. And than you know that the title is for highlighting the video. Clickbait? of course!😇a real conversation starter that might helps others! thanks for your input! Let me know what you ride!

      Your title saids best kite in the world. lol. Anywyas I tried this sport on tubes 10 years ago but didn't learn a thing and gave it up but then picked it back up about 2 years ago but by then had been flying foils so mainly use foil kites now, preferably flysurfer. I have flown many different types and brands of kites through out the years and there are definitely noticeable differences in kites and manufacturers. To me foil kites are easier than LEI,s and for what I do they do everything better .

    • @EpicGust
      @EpicGust  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The epic truth about kitesurfing kites! Well 10 years ago tubes were just about to make that progression that made them easy and safe. But got your point since i was the same, bought old tubes, wasnt happy than moved to foils - as landkiting a lot. Loved them. But the two world has different caracteristics. Tubes are dynamic and foils are more static kites.

    • @EpicGust
      @EpicGust  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Anyway I, am an instructor, using all new gears at schools, and pretty much spending my life around kites. I have some insights :)
      I rode all the rebels from 2012 till 2017, not yet the 4 liner! Nice kite has an insane hangtime - no coincidence why Mr. Airstyle is on that. It just turns too slow for me. And the 5th line never been my favorite. Had a beginner friend starting with a rebel 2015. Never seen anyone doing self-rescues that often 😂😂 poor buddy made it so many times to flip so there was no chance for relaunch... From the north i, would go for a neo or dice. The first one it is even great for beginners!
      I am not advertising Zian, as they don't give me anything for this. Just telling what i ride and what i like in them. Have you tried the Zian? You haven't told what you like about your rebels tho!

    Crazyfly makes some crappy products. Ex: Elite, $1300 board that rusts, Sculpt. Total garbage with no depower.

    • @EpicGust
      @EpicGust  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm, that's weird. A friend of mine has a Crazyfly Sculpt and I helped him to fix the line lengths (as they were far from right - maybe stretching?) and I tried, nothing special, but definitely not garbage! Can't be that the lines got stretched so your bar was way out of trim? The bar - I admit, it isn't too great! But that was at least 3 years old. Since they made the kites in Europe, the kite quality must be good too! Has no experience with this tho. And the board set is outstanding! That is their flagship. No defense but anything will rust if you dont clean it and maintain it - even my mystic harness hook rusts after a year. I am pretty serious about taking care of it and still... What you think?

    • @jink6091
      @jink6091 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      They have quality control problems. The Elite was taken care of exactly the same as my Carved boards. I'm not throwing around a numbered and plaqued $1300 board nor storing it wet. Their screws and screw inserts rust like crazy. But I know peeps who have the Raptor LTD that don't have problems. The Sculpt... 2018... friend of mine rented it once. I was riding it upwind for him without realizing what it was (No pre-notion) and tried throwing down some sent tricks and was like what is wrong with this kite? doesn't move doesn't depower then looked up...

    • @EpicGust
      @EpicGust  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, many friends of mine having Raptors and being super satisfied with it! Maybe your case is a warranty issue, some can be bad - God knows how and why tho! No doubt I believe you that this kite wasn't great, but again - rental gear just can be shit! And it sadly reflects on the brand and not on the school/rental. Anyway, it might just not a great kite. Thanks for your input! :)

    • @Harry-TramAnh
      @Harry-TramAnh 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      We used crazyfly at our kiteschool, yes we had a few quality control problems but nothing they didn't help us out with once we notified them. I actually really love my sculp, I'm not sure what you mean about the depower, it's not something we have had a problem with. Everyone knows the raptor, it's a fantastic board and I've had many people tell me they wish they had one. Just add that the bar does suck, the chicken stick has a tendency to ride up the chicken loop and then you become unhooked when you least expect it. Had to keep mine from riding up the chicken loop with some cable ties.

    • @xxxjohnblaney
      @xxxjohnblaney 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      CrazyFly owner here......no issues. Sculps are great kites. 12m pulls like a train. 7m flies like a wasp. Depower works perfectly on all my kites, so not sure what you're talking about. Not amazing at anything, just really good all-round predictable kites. Definitely worth buying. Raptor board is excellent. No issues whatsoever with any part. Performance is fantastic.
