I saw this tour in Dallas at Reunion Arena. The stage was a ship with a dragon's head that breathed smoke. It was a really good show! this brought back sweet memories of my youth! Thanks for posting this.
I was too young to catch them in their prime, but better late than never i saw this tour at Birmingham NEC, England! Great memories, fading by the day!
The concert for this was so awesome … I think it was the last of the really big shows … with a Viking ship that filled the entire stage! However this video like most Tull videos is kind of cheesy and goofy. Love the song through … and the album.
It is interesting to see Bruce Rowland on Drums hard to fault a Fairport Rhythm section. (Bruce played at Woodstock in Joe Cockers band) Gerry Conway is who you hear playing drums.
😄People say Ian was a great showman, maybe, but he was also way overdoing it when less would be better. Everything about this was ridiculous but the music itself. They had to do the marketing, same as TOTP or some other show. I like the Barry-Barre-Anderson line ups the best.
No, Martin Barre is the only guitarist of Jethro Tull. Ian Anderson plays sometimes acoustic guitar, but not in this video. And there isn't another guitarist in this video, only the bass. And it sounds exactly like the studio version.
Mick Abrahams was the original guitaist on the first album. Barre has been the guitarist since then. Unless of course you include Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath who temporarily filled in between Abrahams and Barre.
Ah! That explains it; I thought Conway was looking a little old for 34! Rowland was 41 in 1982 I do believe. Did Rowland play on the tour, or just this TV clip?
Should be cool; Ian's complete lack of vocal range is still worrisome (I would rather he avoid lengthy touring so as not to shred what little voice he has left), but musically/lyrically I'm sure it will be marvelous.
*sigh* Again great talent wasted on lip synch ....The Guitars are not even plugged in!! you would think even when this was recorded they could have played the song live for the people...what a rip off...:( that being said..it's sill cool to see them "live"....
I LOVE this song. Love Tull forever!
the old man still has his oats. give Ian the credit he deserves.
Ian was only 35 when this was recorded.
My God, I LOVE THIS MAN🥰😍🥰
From my favourite Tull album and the best cover art for it too.

Just awesome this band is!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is the fabled master tape playing in the background ... right off the vinyl!
Very majestic. And kick ass.
i like all jethro
Broadsword and clear understanding.
Strange band but very good music Jefro Tull = Legends
Drummer Bruce Rowland passed away on July 2nd, making this clip more profound!
True talent and performer.
very nice
Just love that man
What a great song and album.
Excellent!!!
always a favorite
danke, vous me faites découvrir des choses jamais passées en France.
Thanks for the upload.
Pese al playback, adoro este tema y adoro a esta banda. Me mató la escenografía!!!!!

Good voice, there, Ian!

Great album
Not strange my friend... awesome! lol

EL PLAYBACK NO IMPORTA, SOLO LA PRESENCIA EN EL ROGRAMA ES IMPORTANTE...
Bruce Rowland miming to Gerry Conway's drums

I know this is pantomime, but for Christ's sake, Martin's guitar isn't even plugged in! Still worth the view.

I love that thing he does with Martin at about 2:38. So weird and funny. 😄
Fairport's Bruce Rowland is miming Gerry Conway's original part.
That Jethro Tull have yet to be inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame is a complete travesty.

Looking forward to the remaster/remix of this album by Steven Wilson coming out on 1st September 2023. Lots of extras promised with it too…
Sadly, this turned out to be "Thick As A Brick II: Whatever Happened To Gerald Bostock?", which he released as a solo album.

I mean Jethro Tull bloody predictive txt
wow these guys are brilliant great the sound is totally inadequate
Ians voice & martin barres guitar wizadry is far out
Yes, but not all at the same time ^^. I know Barre joined the group in 1969.
there is another guitar guy, maybe he played that part
of course it's playback. it's a TV show promotion. any band would play semi-music video promo in TV if asked
where is Gerry Conway?
his fingers don't move cuz the final part of the solo is played by the keyboards... anyway I agree with you, no doubt it is playback xd
Lol, it's playback. Look at 2:52 , Martin's fingers don't moove !
But great song.
you can clearly see that they are all plugged in
Pas mal, la version studio est plus longue.
Ok, you want an unrefutable evidence that they're playing playback ? Look at 2:14 and explain me how can Martin play with an unplugged guitar.
not live,
CD.
Ginger Baker on drums?
great & rare video... pitty the sound is from the album.. they are just pretending to be playing lol
@Pattonfrodo you can totally see the lack of energy.
Ian Anderson is the best lip syncer ever.
Very nice! Too bad that it's lipsync though but really cool anyway.
Martin took Daves vest or Dave took martins pants
Should be cool; Ian's complete lack of vocal range is still worrisome (I would rather he avoid lengthy touring so as not to shred what little voice he has left), but musically/lyrically I'm sure it will be marvelous.
Hmm.. well that's a thing
Thumbs down from Hall and Oates.
ICELAND
sorry, though i like Tull in general, any their period, please is very clear that there is no compare way with hall and oates
You are so handsome Ian anderson.and your music is so unique love you guys forever. No one like you,,💜❤️😸😃😸
*sigh* Again great talent wasted on lip synch ....The Guitars are not even plugged in!! you would think even when this was recorded they could have played the song live for the people...what a rip off...:( that being said..it's sill cool to see them "live"....
Ian Anderson was never good at lip syncing
Unt My God!
