- We’ve got a special guest on this episode of PennLive’s Wrestling Podcast. Clay Steadman, in his first year as general manager for Cael Sanderson’s Penn State wrestling team, chats with Jim Carlson and Bob Flounders.
Steadman, a former Penn State wrestler who had his career cut short due to injury, discusses some of his duties as GM. What it’s like trying to “sell” Penn State wrestling as the Lions continue to expand their NIL program?
It’s a very revealing conversation that wrestling fans will not want to miss. Steadman also shares an amazing story about an early meeting he had with Sanderson during his wrestling days at Penn State. A hint: It was an intense meeting.
I met Cael at Atherton St. Waffle Shop 10 years ago. It was a Sunday and he was with his asst. coaches. Cael was walking passed us when I said hello. He said hello back and proceeded to engage in conversation for 10 minutes. I was gobsmacked. He's so low keyed and complimentary. Thank you God for this man. The best thing since hiring Joe Paterno.
I had cael and some of the Penn state guys down our local high school for a camp years ago and Clay was there and he has a great sense of humor.
Shared values plus repeated actions equals culture. Change the values, then the actions and the culture follows. 🔵⚪️🦁
Cael came down to Garnet Valley with Bono after he won his 3rd title (119-0). I talked to him for about 20 minutes. One of the most humble people I've ever met. No cockiness at all. I had my youngest son grab Cael to roll around with. He took it easy on all the light weights. The heavier wts got brutalized. Both sons remember it fondly as having wrestled the greatest collegiate wrestler of all time.

@anthonydelgrosso4818 You are correct 💯
Cael changed the culture. The Gable approach had persisted a long long time.

How many National Champions? I'm guessing between 4 and 5.
