In this performance Sangah has shown how restraint can be a very important part of beautiful phrasing and subsequent emotional impact. The old saying 'less is more'. Another way of looking at it is understatement can be more powerful than overstatement. I suppose it is a case of shades of grey. If you have softer, quieter moments then you can naturally build up to a crescendo and consequently come back from the peak to gentler waters. Personally I think Sangah has really done a phenomenal job with this cover. An impressive performance, with elegance and grace. The emotional ride achieved from her expressive, intuitive playing and singing is one magnificent experience. This is superb jazz reminiscent of Billie Holiday and other greats yet still being uniquely Sangah. A staggering performance and very classy five minutes of genius.
