Wow 😮 hiring a nanny in Thailand is really cheap compared to America. Do you mind telling me how much typical salary is in Thailand? Maybe in Bangkok? Curious to find out
@@ChovyTravelIn Bangkok starts at around 15,000 baht and up to 100,000Bath++ up to the position and company, but the average I thought it’s around 25,000-30,000 but Couples who have kids should have an average in come 50,000 baht per family. Nowadays people have fewer kids to none because of high expenses, they choose to have cat instead and hire a maid to come around 1-2 times a week. ( all the numbers are per month)
I also grew up with a nanny until I was in middle school. Now i also have 1 nanny 1 housekeeper and looking for a driver. Their salary cost around 15,000 baht per month. But if you’re looking for an english speaking nanny, it’ll cost more.
@@ChovyTravel I think 15k is the minimum standard - but, like other comments say, it also depends on the range of duties (sometimes its a nanny/housekeeper job, a nanny/language teaching job, or some nannies don't clock in and out, they just live in with the families, so the price could go way higher).
The pink noodle you got we call it 'Yen-Ta-Fo' noodle soup, it's good with the thick rice noodle called 'Sen-Yai'. You can also make it as 'Yen-Ta-Fo-Tom-Yum'. BKK airport you mentioned in the clip is Suvarnabhumi airport, we pronounce it as 'Su-Wan-Na-Poom' airport. Since ancient time, women got a huge role in many aspects of life which is differ to confucious masculine idea in east asia. You can notice it thru language e.g. General - แม่ทัพ. The important and significant word always start with แม่ which mean mom. 🙂 I'm not sure exact number but men vs women roughly around 49% vs 51%. Thai people work a lot; many work 5-6 days each week. Statistically, Thai people like to spend money. Many spend more than they earn, just to post on IG or Facebook. Because of that many Thais often borrow money from friends and families, or even worse loan sharks. It would take years before they could pay off those loans.

There are more women in Thailand. Most Thai people are working paycheck to paycheck and working long hours. Since the wage is low, it forces many families to have both people work. There are many families in Thailand, especially from the rural part of Thailand whose both parents had to come and work in Bangkok and leave their children in the province with grandparents or uncle/aunt to raise them. The children won't get to see their parents for weeks or months.
From what I see from my parents, I think both husband and wife should have their own income so they will not rely on other's emotion too much. However, my grandfather is a house husband though. He used to work with my grandmom but he got bored and quite his job and stay home cooking for kids instead. Everybody in my family seems to have no problem about that as well since he cook so delicious food every time we visit.

You guys had so many questions in this clip I havee to try really hard to remember them all. However, I've got a feeling I won't remember them all. Let's see. 1. Women in the office is very common in Thailand. More women finish college than men. Many many women in office working environment will not stay home if they marry. At the same time, many women working white color jobs are not legally married. They may have a permanent boyfriend or choose to only care for their parents and/or nephews-nieces. 2. The orangy tangy sauce in the noodle dish is a "Yentafo" dish, made of fermented tofu called "Taohuyee" in Thai. 3. I grew up in a traditional Chinese-Thai family where my father works, and my mother looked after the house (no gardening). A "Mr. Mom" is becoming more and more accepted in contemporary times though due to the economic times and its interplay with people's luck. 4. I don't know whether the kids making fu of their friends who have a father being housekeeper is a question or not, but through my experience with my two kids, kids usually talk about their own issues bere in Thailand, so I really don't know how kids treat this issue. I hopeI didn't miss anything. Cheers!!!
Thank you so very much for sharing! 🥰❤️🫰🙏 Appreciate you taking the time to answer our curiosity 😁 That’s good to hear that in Thailand, the kids talk about their own issues.
As a thai woman myself, if I already make a lot or enough money for two to live a lavish life, then I'm ok with that. If there's anyone in the family that could make enough money to make us living a good life, doesn't matter the one who worked would be me or my partner. My parents were both working but mom made a bit more, and doesn't wanna do a house work, so my dad did 90% of the housework and he still also had to make money. lol
There are more women in Thailand. Most Thai people are working paycheck to paycheck and working long hours. Since the wage is low, it forces many families to have both people work. There are many families in Thailand, especially from the rural part of Thailand whose both parents had to come and work in Bangkok and leave their children in the province with grandparents or family members to raise them. I think in most Bangkok families, both parents are working, especially in the middle class, because school tuition has become so expensive that both parents need to work hard to get their children into good schools. However, I've never heard of the concept of a house husband here. I can't imagine how a guy could survive the criticism from the older generation and their friends 😂. Thai people can be pretty nosy and very judgmental. P.S. Boat noodles, we love to eat them in small bowls, season them up, and stack them when finished! You need to stack your bowls! It's a must!! 😂
By the way, Tom Yum flavor in noodle dishes usually isn’t the same as in Tom Yum soup. It’s like Tom Yum in name only, none of the actual Tom Yum herbs or ingredients are involved. It’s typically sweeter than the soup. We might call it Tom Yum just because it’s spicy and sour. The funny thing is, when you do find a noodle dish with real Tom Yum soup, it’s more likely to be with pasta 😂.
That makes total sense nowadays. Yes! I believe also that the older generation might have a fit over a man choosing to be a house husband/stay at home dad. I think that’s how it is in a lot of Asian culture. We actually love the concept of boat noodle/stacking them up. Trying them in different ways is great! We just feel bad for the employees when doing dishes 😅
The value of a housewife or a househusband in Thailand today depends on the agreement of the husband and wife. Generally, no one will bother you except for some who like to gossip. But in the past, Thai society had 2 types of cultures. In general, the husband and wife of a commoner family would help each other work because in the past, Thai society was an agricultural society. The man would marry into the woman's house and the woman's family would observe whether the man could work or not. The male side of the noble family would be a noble and would go to work in the palace or the government department that he belonged to. Therefore, he would usually find a wife who would be a housewife to take care of everything in the house. Most of them would look for a palace maid because they would be trained in etiquette and women's work according to the palace style as high-class women. In addition to taking care of the house, it also indicated the class and connected with other high-ranking nobles. Because the palace maids were usually the descendants of high-ranking noble families. My grandfather was an old nobleman and my grandmother was also a palace maid. Until when Thailand had to change its style to accept Western culture. During the colonization of the West. Thailand had to change so that Western countries could not use the excuse that we were backward and had to come in to rule like they did to our neighboring countries. The Western value that men were the head of the family and the breadwinner of the family came into being. And having only one wife also came along.
Boat noodles are a type of noodle. In the past, they were sold on boats. Therefore, they had to be sold in small bowls for convenience in putting them on the boats to sell. In the past, Thai transportation was by boat, which is why Westerners called our kingdom the Venice of the East. When it came to the modern era, the main transportation changed to land. Boat noodles were moved to land. However, some shops still maintain their identity by having boats at the shop. Some shops have 2 sizes of noodles. The original type is a small bowl. And Thais like to eat many bowls. You can change the type without getting bored. And we will compete with friends when we finish eating to see who can eat more. By counting the number of bowls stacked together as a condo.
@@ChovyTravel Nowadays, they are experts. This type of restaurant divides the cooking stations. In the past, when they were sold on boats, there were only two vendors or cooks. From what I have eaten when I was a child, there was only one vendor on a boat.
We appreciate you sharing your thoughts. 🥰 Do have to ask… why do you consider this topic too deep? What are the lighter topics you recommend? We wanted to connect more deeply with our viewers since you guys are like family to us 🌷🤍
In family, no need to specific wife or husband take the specific roles, they can take turns to take any duties so I do not mind if husband want to turn to be house husband. Thai women (except gold diggers found in bars) normally earn income by theirselves and be independent. If husband still have some income and really be family oriented, for me I find it lucky. Love both ❤❤
I dont mind a house husband if he can stay home, cook, clean, run errands and do all the things a house husband does. But if all he does is stay home play video games and eat my food then no. Lol
From my personal view (born 1992), I do not put my mind to think about whether house husbands are good or bad. I genuinely care more about whether as a family WE provide. As a unit, everybody has ups and downs, sometimes the husband does well hence he has to be the leader in that specific situation. Of course, when the husband is in his lows, the wife will automatically take the leading position and provide for the family. That is how a member in the unit should support each other, in my opinion. I do not go deep down in the details where genders play a significantly important role on advantages/disadvantages, those are tasks that should be agreed mutually within the unit to yield the optimum. All in all, I feel like when 1+1 < 2 it is very exhausting and nobody should be in that position.
I have 3 single daughters and will not give my consent if they pick a house-husband. I don't like them to be taken advantage of (in term of earning money). Women can work and men should continue to work. No excuse.
In Thai culture, a man is supposed to work and provide to his wife and kids. By not doing that, it is considered disgraceful. Although the society has changed a lot these days, but I think that kind of mindset is still out there. It's common to see both working husbands and wives but househusbands are quite rare.
That’s what we initially thought as well. Couldn’t agree with you more! We also understand a lot has changed but I’m sure there are people have a more of an older mindset. Thank you so very much for sharing! Really appreciate it! 🥰❤️🫰🙏
According to this book Description of the Thai Kingdom or Siam, by Jean-Baptiste Pallegoix written around 1850 Its common for Thai men to let the wife work while he gamble on cock fighting or drink alcohol all days. Thai men only works during rice planting and harvesting season. Now a days situation has changed but there are still a few modern Thai men that let women works and earn the income.
Regarding the house husband or wife. Truly it was the old tradition fit for the old circumstances. Does the cost of things like it was 50 years ago? No. 1 household earning was enough back then but not now. Rich people can afford to do the Traditional wife/husband. but no. not the normal people, we don't earn enough to feed and keep the roof. House sitting or stay at home is different than fixing house thou. keeping the house livable clean is not a fulltime work, and really depend on how one "spent" the cleanliness too. If you don't create mess too easily and clean right after then the work is not fulltime job. Technology help reduce the workload and time too. And in terms of income. You don't have to give up one income to work at home. One can make adjustment to WFH or small business like selling things online and packing stuff from home. leave for a bit to deliver (or call courier) postal. You can be house husband or wife. It just doesn't mean necessary giving up on income though. I WFH full time (Male 34). Stay at home practically 24/7. only leave for some entertainment or shopping or sometime eat out. As long as you don't struggle for the income. You can both be house husband and wife. LOL. Most men usually work jobs that usually involve moving around like courier/ travelling sales/ business meeting or anything that usually doesn't sit in office. (quite hard to find women in these field). So on the street, you will see them on the road to go somewhere quite often. In Thailand both most Men and women work fulltime its just because we don't earn enough for the household. Simple as that.
Thanks for sharing your story and experience! Working from home is great too. It’s definitely something people think about and a great option to make money!

FYI…the “green sauce” is actually mushy peas. It’s a side dish with fish and chips. It’s common to have it along side fish and chips in the UK.

Thailand has the nanny culture. I grew up with a nanny cuz both my parents work (it's around 15k THB a month and she works from 8-5)
Wow 😮 hiring a nanny in Thailand is really cheap compared to America.
I see. Thanks for explaining! 😊👍
For Fish & Chips, I would recommend you to try Alray Fish & Chips in Samutprakan (you can take BTS there) for price and taste.
Really enjoy watching you guys wandering around Bangkok. Thanks

Since ancient time, women got a huge role in many aspects of life which is differ to confucious masculine idea in east asia. You can notice it thru language e.g. General - แม่ทัพ. The important and significant word always start with แม่ which mean mom. 🙂
I'm not sure exact number but men vs women roughly around 49% vs 51%. As Thai middle age man, I grew up to run all those households - washing dishes, cloths, iron cloths, floor cleaning and cooking since I was 9. Actually, my dad is not only bring home beacon but also run households especially cooking. He laid foundation for me to rely on my own. My partner should be comfortable as much as possible. I'm glad to sacrify myself for my partner. Once, I show her example, she wouldn't let me down and stand by my side.
Wish you two happy and healthy krub.

ยากันยุงแบบทา = mosquito repellent
Anyway, the one you picked is called Soffell mosquito repellent spray, which also works. But it is not very popular because you must apply it frequently.
Oh really? Which spray do you recommend?? Which one do you use?
@@ChovyTravel I recommend Sketolene "lotion" because it lasts much longer than the spray version. Soffell lotion is really smelly but there are many different scent varieties. I haven't tried them all. กย15 is a locally made brand. Some people don't like it because กย15 sometimes causes skin irritation due to its higher concentrations of the mosquito repellent chemical.

in thailand culture both dad and mom are work and grand parent is look after since they are retire or usually some are working like a food merchant so kid just in the shop with grand parent and then they grow a little bit then they all go to school so it just little bit of hard time on first 1-3 years raising up kid

Thanks for letting us know! 👌

Thanks for sharing! 😊🩵

The pink sauce noddle soup that you ate is called Yen tar four is not tom yum noddle
Ahh really!? Must have some similar spices/ingredients
@@ChovyTravel the sauce is made from red fermented tofu
Interesting! 🤔
🥰❤️🫰🙏 Appreciate you taking the time to answer our curiosity 😁
That’s good to hear that in Thailand, the kids talk about their own issues.
As a thai woman myself, if I already make a lot or enough money for two to live a lavish life, then I'm ok with that. If there's anyone in the family that could make enough money to make us living a good life, doesn't matter the one who worked would be me or my partner. My parents were both working but mom made a bit more, and doesn't wanna do a house work, so my dad did 90% of the housework and he still also had to make money. lol
True true. You must have a very sweet dad! 🥰🥰

Wow. Didn’t know that. Thanks for sharing! 🙂
Oh really!? Wow! So interesting 😅 Btw, Really Appreciate you sharing! 🥰❤️🫰🙏
Wow! Thank you so very much for sharing! That’s very interesting!
It’s great for the customers to try a variety of boat noodles but must be really hard for the restaurant owners/employees.
@@ChovyTravel Nowadays, they are experts. This type of restaurant divides the cooking stations. In the past, when they were sold on boats, there were only two vendors or cooks. From what I have eaten when I was a child, there was only one vendor on a boat.
We did notice everyone was moving so fast very naturally as if they have been doing the job for many many years 😃

Love both ❤❤
That’s so cool! It definitely seems like a lot of Thai women are very independent. Thank you so very much for sharing 🥰❤️🫰🙏
I dont mind a house husband if he can stay home, cook, clean, run errands and do all the things a house husband does. But if all he does is stay home play video games and eat my food then no. Lol

Thai women are tough and hard working. Many of them reached high management positions. So ordinary here
100% Agree! We noticed that as well. We found that very interesting and wonderful.
Thank you so very much for sharing! Very well said and I agree with you 100% 👏👏👏 Caroline and myself both think of ourselves as a Unit/1/We/Us 😃
I’m in America and women chase me around all day trying to make me there house husband 😂
😂 Maybe you have that nurturing feature they’re looking for as a house husband 😁
I have 3 single daughters and will not give my consent if they pick a house-husband. I don't like them to be taken advantage of (in term of earning money). Women can work and men should continue to work. No excuse.
Understandable. As a mother, you want the best for them! ☺️🩵🤍
According to this book
Description of the Thai Kingdom or Siam, by Jean-Baptiste Pallegoix written around 1850
Its common for Thai men to let the wife work while he gamble on cock fighting or drink alcohol all days. Thai men only works during rice planting and harvesting season.
Now a days situation has changed but there are still a few modern Thai men that let women works and earn the income.
Whattttt!!???? 🤯😱
Been watching your videos for awhile, quite informative to the video topic till you started discussing work home parents/husbands etc not interesting
Okay…

Oh… 🤦 whoops!🤷😅
By the way, the best mosquito repellant is from the US (off). I tried to use the one from Thailand didn't work too well, especially if you have sweet blood. Generally speaking, they tend to attract Type B blood.
