I used to work with a guy from South Vietnam. At 19 years old he was sent to California to learn how to fly the UH-1. He trained for a very short time and was sent back to Vietnam to fly for the South Vietnamese army. I can't imagine how shot these guy's nerves were while flying over there. Thank you for doing this.
Amazing story thank you for sharing. My 8th grade history teacher Mr Adams was a Vietnam veteran and told us a story in class how about he and one other soldier were told to write a goodbye letter to their families because they were going to defend the bridge while the rest of the group retreated and from that day forward I've been obsessed with Vietnam. God bless. * as I'm watching this and doing the math Mr Adams my teacher 25 years ago I tried to find him online and there's nothing to be found but I kept open the tab for the school and I'm going to reach out and try to find him. I don't even know his first name. I'm sure many soldiers have that kind of pain in their heart that they only know their brothers last name
Thank you, Larry... for all you are doing for our veterans and giving them a chance to tell their experiences. Thank you and welcome home SP5 Persing for making it home and telling your story. You are my hero like my WW2 Navy father was to me. Respect to all our men and women who have served. From a Marine Corps Aviation veteran SGT ( 1971-1975 ). Semper Fi!
My son told me about this channel so I thought I would share my story. Somewhat unique I think. My father was a MasterChief in the NAVY and spent over 20 yrs in service. He was in Pearl Harbor and survived. He enjoyed baseball and took me to baseball games when I was under 10 yrs old. Fast forward to 66 I became a pro ball player. In June of 67 after pitching a no- hitter earlier I lost a ball game to Nolan Ryan 2-1 went back to the hotel and found my draft papers. 6 months later am carrying the 60 in the jungle for the 1st of the 7th Air Cav. In March of 68 I received a chest wound from a rocket attack. I ended up in a Army hospital in Japan and later an amputee ward in Lettermen General in SF. So a Purple Heart and Bronze later with my pro baseball career over I went to college on the GI Bill. After college I had the fortune to develope a start-up company called SBCoffee. Which a story for another day

Hi Larry. Enjoy listening to your interviews! Just got back from a trip to Vietnam. checked out different places around the country.. hill 937, Rock pile, Khe Sahn, Bastogne, etc. Gives me an idea of the places some of these interviews happened. Cheers Maketu, New Zealand
I met a Buddist monk who was a crew chief/door gunner during the Vietnam war and he told me he had probably mowed down over a thousand people, mostly civilians. He said he became a monk to overcome his nightmares and pay penance for his sins.
Some vets get it because they didn't know the traumatic abuse they suffered through in childhood was worse...if you had a fear of death. I can't imagine being torn through by a bullet, but I know of being unconscious after being hit with a heavy metal shovel as a child. Flashbacks? Yes. Triggers? Yes. There's more, but not here. I am a peacetime US Navy vet '81-85. The military was the safest place for me then. Thanks for your time. God Bless you and all who served. ✝️
Thank you to our Vietnam veterans for doing an extremely good job in a war that was run by LBJ and the democrats, gradual escalation, a stupid tactic and deadly for our men. And to think they are trying to advise the IDF to take the same approach.
