      @@jc27_ikr? This might end up not even be Utah's biggest win of the year, let alone one of the biggest wins in the program's history. The biggest wins for Utah were definitely the Fiesta Bowl in 2005 and the Sugar Bowl in 2009 which both completed perfect seasons. Oh and yeah, the two Pac 12 Championship games they just won.

    These guys were nice on the mic and not too homerish, although calling this one of Utah's best wins in program history is pretty aggrandizing on behalf of USC. I wouldn't even put this in the top 20 as best wins. Don't get me wrong, it was a very satisfying win considering how depleted Utah's roster is by injuries. But a narrow victory against a fringe top 25 team that happens to be a big brand? That's just a nice win and history won't remember it as anything great.

      Well, at least being aggrandizing to USC is something you might expect, from hometown radio, but the Coaches and especially the AP “sports writers” have been sucking on USC, all year, for little reason. USC *never* belonged in the Top 10 (especially not just outside the Top 5!), this year, but writers and coaches held on as long as they could, overrating them-past 3 close games against teams with a combined 0 PAC-12 wins (a 14-point win (42-28) against a horrible, 1-2 ASU team, a 7-point win (sealed by an onside kick recovery in the last two minutes) against a 3-1 Colorado team that’d just gotten demolished by Oregon, and a 2-point 2OT win against 2-4 AZ’s backup QB)-before ND absolutely crushed them and then they got beat at home, here against Utah. They’ve lost both games against mid-teens ranked opponents, and _somehow, they’re _*_still_*_ #24._ Well, at least they have Oregon and Washington-their only real tests besides that woulda maybe been worthy a Top 10 ranking, if they’d beaten them by 2TDs-and so they’d better hope Cal and/or UCLA doesn’t/don’t sneak up on them, or the *preseason #6* team (then ahead of Utah, Texas, Penn State, Washington, Oregon, Oklahoma, and even Tulane, behind all of whom they’ve _finally_ dropped, for their ranking to be closer to how good a team they actually are... ) may end up limping into a bowl game at as low as 6-6.
      I wouldn’t be shocked, at all, if they drop every game but Cal, the rest of the season, and they’re not going to the PAC-12 Championship Game - although it’d be great to see an 8-4 or 7-5 team in that game, for the “most loaded conference in college football this year... “
      Most likely finishing unranked at 8-4, after losing to every ranked team on their schedule, 2023 USC is no kind of historic win, at all. It was more like a “we did _slightly better_ than Arizona’s backup QB starting his first game” kinda win.

      Yeah, Pete Arbogast is an outstanding person and play by play guy, as much as I hate SC. Check this out: "times out" instead of "time outs." That's right, per Lindsay Nelson (remember him ?) Pete gave credit to former Wash. State. recently deceased broadcaster Bob Robertson after he passed , by ending the USC broadcast w/ Bob's legendary: "always be a good sport; be a good sport in all ways." And....Pete does something really impressive as a volunteer: he goes to hospitals and reads to terminal patients who have no family to visit them in their final hours prior to dying. So kudos to the USC broadcasters. Notice how the audio engineer kept the crowd noise always underneath the announcers, not interfering w/ them. My only criticism: the audio guy needs to kick up the color man's micr. a tad, to be at Pete's same audio level, as well as increase the color guy's Eq to more treble, to also match Mr. Arbogast.

      @miltonsmith974 Yeah, I agree 👍 I 👀 nothing wrong with being a homer for the school that's paying you. I listen to a lot of radio broadcasts from around the country here on YT. So I can rightly say that over the years, we Sooner fans are blessed to have audio painters who are amongst the best in the land. Much like a rock concert, they're loose, carefree, and not overly concerned with decorum. I'm very proud of the fact that while they'll point out bad or missed calls, they, unlike many other radio crews, show respect and give credit to the opponents by NOT spending 2hrs bitching about the Zebras. They're fun, exciting, and most importantly accurate 👌 Simply put, we have the best seat in the 🏠.

      Thats just not true, they just made a play there, you don't let people score when they are 5 points down UNLESS its first and goal from the 1 or 2, even then if you have timeouts you try to stop them and use your timeouts, no one needs timeouts on offense in CFB (in the last 2 minutes only now) you can stop the clock with a first down.
      Why would you let them score when its takes a TD to be you. Now if you are up 2 and a FG beats you and they can run the clock down to 1 sec. and kick a FG, sure, let them score a TD and you have a shot, but no one up 5 with 2 minutes is letting the other team score.

    Not only did the refereeing crew get the call wrong, they let number 90 stand on the sidelines after he was ejected. Someone needs to review the rulebook with this crew.

  • @mechamania
    @mechamania 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    It’s awesome that “replays” and ref reviews are “brought to you,” meaning sponsored by an advertiser, on radio. So, basically, saying those things fills dead air, while replays and reviews are actually being shown on TV. Don’t get me wrong: I love radio broadcasts and listen to them whenever I can. Unfortunately, that isn’t nearly so often as I’d like, even with live streaming local radio stations on apps like MyRadio ... especially as opposed to national TV announcers’ play-by-play (which generally sucks, not just for who the announcers usually are (not just the “stooges,” either, but even the “straight man” - looking at you, Collinsworth), but also because they’ve usually spent less than a week prepping to *know who the teams and players are,* particularly as *compared to local radio folks who know the teams, players, and colloquial details the TV network stats crews miss) the way local broadcasters do.*
    That said, it’s interesting to see how radio station tactics develop and transform with the times, especially as a single-modality medium - not the multimedia connections for TV broadcast/cable and increasing streaming interactivity. As I think about it, selling advertisers really and review space is a pretty brilliant strategy. Of course, studies have shown that sports sponsorships can just as likely *cause more negative subconscious associations with the brand* when one’s team has a bad play or loses (Wagner & Clark, 2014), because those negative feelings attach to “anchors” such as the team and sponsors - especially when discussed together.
    So, although there’s more time to insert a sponsorship during a review, for instance, a negative result would become associated with that sponsor, subconsciously, obviously the opposite of what a sponsor wants. To remedy that, it’d be best for stations to hold off on noting that a review is “brought to you by [XYZ]” until the result is known to be positive - in this case for the Trojans, ‘cause it’s obviously USC coverage. Likewise, for replays, sponsorships should only be mentioned during a replay of a positive play for the *home team* being supported. Sounds stupid, doesn’t it? It works...
    Thanks so much for the video. Great sync, and it was so much better than the TV broadcast commentary!

    I studied the targeting rule. And just so you know, if it's called on the field and the review shows that the hit meets one of the two criteria for targeting, even if the hit isn't necessarily violent, it's almost guaranteed to stand. It has to be "forcible contact", which basically means he tried to hit him. So if you choose to hit instead of tackle, you better know what you're doing.

    • @TheFreshTrumpet
      @TheFreshTrumpet 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      i don’t think forcible reflects intentionality i think it’s meant to reflect the impact itself. like intentionally targeting but missing by barely grazing the opponents helmet where it doesn’t really move, that probably wouldn’t be targeting. accidentally but powerfully head butting someone would rightly get called more often. ironically that one wasn’t even as blatant as the one on the very next play by usc’s #8 who jammed his spine and had to leave the field after 💀

    Wow great compilation of the final minutes, thanks! I'm a Ute fan and clearly I am pleased at the outcome although there does appear to be some controversy.
    I agree that there was enough contact by Bear Alexander to warrant a personal foul on Bryson Barnes, however, I do NOT agree with the targeting call. No way in hell that was targeting. Bear didn't lower his helmet...at all. This isn't the first time the refs have made a horrible call in favor of targeting. I've watched other games this season and it seems like the refs are overly eager to blow the whistle and call targeting for even the slightest bit of contact.

    • @pnwdweler4100
      @pnwdweler4100 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      You're incorrect. There are four separate criteria that warrant a targeting call and only one of the four have to be met. Look at the third bullet point, if you lead with basically any part of the body and make contact with the head or neck area it is targeting. The call was spot on when compared to the targeting rules in the NCAA rulebook. There are too many people that only consider the last bullet point when trying to determine targeting, but that is only one of four potential targeting types. Here's the exact text copied and pasted from the NCAA rulebook. Look at the third bullet point below.
      Targeting and Making Forcible Contact to Head
      or Neck Area of a Defenseless Player
      ARTICLE 4. No player shall target and make forcible contact to the head
      or neck area of a defenseless opponent (See Note 2 below) with the helmet,
      forearm, hand, fist, elbow or shoulder. This foul requires that there be at least
      one indicator of targeting (See Note 1 below). When in question, it is a foul
      (Rules 2-27-14 and 9-6). (A.R. 9-1-4-I-VI)
      • Launch. A player leaving their feet to attack an opponent by an upward
      and forward thrust of the body to make forcible contact in the head or
      neck area.
      • A crouch followed by an upward and forward thrust to attack with
      forcible contact at the head or neck area, even though one or both feet
      are still on the ground.
      • Leading with helmet, shoulder, forearm, fist, hand or elbow to attack
      with forcible contact at the head or neck area.
      • Lowering the head before attacking by initiating forcible contact with
      the crown of the helmet.

      @@pnwdweler4100 WRONG AGAIN ! Just because you wrote the Article here , doesn't make you right. Just the opposite. "To make forcible contact" there has to be intent. On this play there clearly is no intent, or to purposefully cause harm to the QB's Grey matter(brain concussion).

    • @rods5569
      @rods5569 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      The targeting call was controversial but the roughing the passer call was undeniably correct. The 15 yard penalty would have been enforced even if targeting wasn't called. In the end it didn't affect the outcome. It does screw USC over for the 1st half next week though and that sucks.

    • @pnwdweler4100
      @pnwdweler4100 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      @@Dakers11 Where does it say "with intent" in the rule book? "Forcible" simply means using force, it has nothing to do with intent, he hit the Utah quarterback hard enough that his head snapped back and he fell to the ground, which meets the definition of "forcible contact". I guess the NCAA and the referees disagree with you, but I guess you know more about the rules than everyone else. Casual.

    I would put the 2009 Sugar Bowl vs Alabama as Utah's greatest victory. 31 -17. I would put last year's two wins over USC higher than this win. Though, in this win we were so depleted that I guess it should be argued that this game was a better win than those two. Except . . . all Utah had to do was somehow find an offensive star. That is all any team has to do to beat USC. Vaki was that star in this game. The Strong Safety was the offensive star.
    I expect us (Utah) to lose to Oregon. they are much more well rounded as a team. Even with next man up heroics.
    If you cannot beat a depleted team, while you carry the Heisman Trophy winner, 0 times out of 3, do you really deserve to be ranked? Does he really deserve to be the Heisman Trophy winner?
    Other than that, I found this broadcast crew to be quite fair.

    Lincoln Riley has stated that when he would go to the playoffs as the Oklahoma coach, he only had the third or fourth most talent of the four playoff teams. He was right. And he was the one recruiting that talent. He only does a "better than average job" analyzing and recruiting defensive talent. A friend of mine (an OU fan) told me that most all of the Sooner fans are now glad that Riley left allowing them to hire a more complete coach in Brent Venables. At first I wondered if this was true, but now I believe him.
