What stands out to me most is the pace and intensity of the game. Both teams are sprinting on the fast break. Even on made baskets they are getting the ball out quickly and pushing the ball up the court. I don’t think current nba teams could keep up the pace
Not a chance lol. Today's players conditioning is terrible in comparison. Rewatching these amazing games made me laugh even more when I hear than these players couldn't compete in today's nba.
Most remember this game because of the grit and iron will Isaiah Thomas showed in almost leading the Pistons to their first title, and rightfully so. This added to his reputation as a winning player that could one day win a title. But it was Big Game James Worthy who really lived up to his reputation in this game and the deciding game 7 of this epic series. In what would go on to be the Lakers last title winning team until 2000.
Yes, with Kareem nearly on his last legs, Worthy truly stepped into that #2 role behind Magic. And was arguably the best player on the Lakers especially in games 6 and 7.
Isiah's Pistons really came THIS close to 3-peating. I don't know of another NBA team ever, other than the 2013 Spurs, that came THIS close to winning a title, and didn't.
@@manuginobilisbaldspot2 That's a little different. The Rockets had the lead and held on. The Spurs were up 5 with less than 30 seconds left and found a way to lose that game.
Hey! I went on your Odyssey channel and looked throughout your posts- I couldn't find the '89 regular season match-up between Houston-Lakers involving Kareem and Dream's last battle. If you come across that, do you mind posting it? I did find a handful of games on there though I haven't seen in ages- thanks!
I’m guessing you’re talking about Laimbeer’s foul on Jabbar. I always thought the Piston’s were robbed as well. However after watching this ( again) Bill definitely pushes Kareem with his hip .
@@samuraibeastwarrior2886 Stop acting like you're in middle school. Alcindor got away with a travel _before_ any contact even occurred _and_ used his left elbow to create space. It was an absolute garbage call, especially given the circumstances. You whining about people pointing it out does not reflect well on you.
@@manuginobilisbaldspot2 Nah, it was a bad call. Firstly, Alcindor got away with a travel before any contact. Secondly, he initiated contact with his left elbow by using it to create space. Travel aside, that's a no call as far as the contact is concerned.
Back when an NBA Finals game on Sunday was in the afternoon and ended before primetime (Sunday nights for the Finals didn’t happen until 1991)

Bulls-Lakers NBA Finals
I'm 40 and I do remember seeing this game in the afternoon
Game 4 of that series!
Now they want the games over as late as possible
Grew up watching the Kobe / Shaq ere but man I wish I could’ve seen showtime. For those that saw both eras, you guys are lucky!!
Yup, not only was I privileged to see both eras but I'm old enough to have seen West & Wilt battle the Knicks in the early '70's.
I didn't watch my lakers until 85 but I guess u can say I seen a little showtime era😂🙌🏾💪🏾

, absolutely!
I can't believe it's been over 36 years!🏀🇺🇸
Old school NBA 🥺🥺✌️
Of the 3 Lakers/Pistons Finals matchups, this was the only time it even reached a game 6.
its crazy that showtime lakers got swept in 83 and 89
Isaiah Thomas scoring 43 points on basically one leg is one of the greatest NBA finals single game performances ever
These promos give me chills!🏀🇺🇸
Say what you will about Isiah Thomas, but when he was playing, he gave it his all every game, and this game is a perfect example.
True that. It's just that he was such a huge douche bag OFF THE COURT
@@bobbenbrown123 You're not in a position to make that determination.
@@bubufubu free speech pal! I can say whatever I please 🥺. You don't determine what I say or do

This game is proof that Isiah is one of the top guards to ever play.
Yet didn't play on the 1992 Olympic team 😂🤣
@@bobbenbrown123 So what? Hypocritical pettiness from other players doesn't take away from Thomas' legacy.

Watch Alcindor's feet before the contact.
Ghost foul called against Laimbeer dammmmmmit
Plus, Alcindor got away with a travel before any contact occurred. The refs blew it.

Na'ah...he fouled him. Kareem would have centers trying to move him with their body since they couldn't block the hook.
