    This helps me out a lot, going full manual from auto was a bit too much. As I learn more in av mode I can then advance from there. Thanks for your help..

    I like your videos. You seem to really just want to teach about photography not toot your own horn and tell us how great you are, which is what I notice from many other people I've watched doing how-to photography videos. Thanks for keeping it direct and simple :)

    @Wayne Moran yesterday I used Shutter Priority for the first time on a video shoot. I set the shutter to 1/50 and the camera set the Aperture to LO. It didn't matter what I set the shutter to, the aperture kept showing LO. When I got home and looked at my footage on the monitor, grainy and noisy was an understatement! The place I was shooting had a lot of natural light. The footage is not useable. What could I have done differently? I always shoot video in Manual mode. This was my first attempt at using shutter priority.

    • @WayneMoran
      @WayneMoran  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Chuck Purnell Sorry my friend. I do not shoot enough video to have anything good to day about this. Video is very very challenging and I have purposely chosen to stay focused (pun intended) on fine art photography. But keep trying my friend.

    • @cre8tivity06
      @cre8tivity06 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Wayne Moran I think I figured it out. My ISO was set to 100 and I bet if increased the ISO that would have helped allow more light into the camera which may have given and F number instead of just saying LO. I will give it a test today to see if I am right or not! LOL! Thanks for your reply though!

    I love this video. You do a great job of explaining this in a simple manner. My question is, can't I do the same thing by just manually focusing? I've done shots like that before and I'm just curious if it achieves the same thing, or is it different?

    • @WayneMoran
      @WayneMoran  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dan, manually focusing does not change your aperture setting. You need to control the aperture.

    • @daddyrabbit835
      @daddyrabbit835 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wayne Moran Right, Wayne, I understand that, but I can bring things into focus and achieve depth of field just by manually focusing. I've always wondered what the the advantage / difference is between achieving depth of field with aperture vs just using manual focus.

    • @WayneMoran
      @WayneMoran  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Dan Vaught, you can't do what I'm telling you about just by manual focus. You have to adjust the aperture setting also. for example if you had an F stop setting of F20 or F-22. Everything would be in Focus doesn't matter where you would manually focus on your subject because your depth of field would be so wide.

    Dear Wayne,
    I do nature and wildlife ( birding ) photography. If I want to to shoot in apperture priority should I set the ISO in Auto or set the min, and max. limit for ISO. I am using MFT - Lumix G 85 camera with 100 - 400 lens. Please advise.

    • @WayneMoran
      @WayneMoran  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Always start with the minimum iso and move it up as necessary. I hope that helps.

  • @julianwidener4803

    Hi I own the xt2 and am somewhat new to photography. When’s I’m in aperture priory mode I still feel like my pictures are either underexposed or over exposed (even when adjusting exposure compensation) to what seems right on the evf. Should I change my metering ? Like the vid a lot thanks

    • @WayneMoran
      @WayneMoran  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It probably is indeed an issue of how you are metering your scene. Are you metering a point or the center or the entire scene? Read your manual about your metering setting. BTW, in general, I never use exposure compensation adjustment. Keep playing.
      Also figure out how to shoot in RAW if you are not already.

    • @chriscorbin9565
      @chriscorbin9565 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      By default your camera will expose at an average of midtone for the metered area. If your camera 'sees' tones lighter than midtone it will reduce the exposure to midtone. If it 'sees' tones darker than midtone it will raise the exposure to midtone. You are always correcting from midtone with exposure comp in the priority modes & programme mode.

  • @TheFunnyCamGuy
    @TheFunnyCamGuy 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Ok so you have to change the aperture and the iso? Can you give a breif explanation on what the iso does and what to do with it please!

    • @WayneMoran
      @WayneMoran  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Papii Chuloo Setting the ISO changes How sensitive your camera sensor is to light. So when you're in a dark setting you have to turn up the eye or so and that old make your sensor more sensitive to light they can pick up the light that you can't even see. But when you do this you also make your pictures more grainy.

    personally i don't shoot above F11 even for my wedding groups the higher the Fstop the softer the image becomes this is called diffraction trust me you do not want to shoot stopped down to F16 or F22 the image will be crap even on a prime lens

    • @WayneMoran
      @WayneMoran  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know that is true my friend and I do it anyway because for night time photography when I'm outside it creates starlight's on the lights of the city scape even without a star light filter that's why I do it. :)

  • @wesamsaka2437
    @wesamsaka2437 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thank you very much. When choosing the aperture priority mode, you would let the camera choose the right shooter speed but what about the ISO? Do you change that manually or you let the camera decided that too ? Do you turn on the "auto ISO sensitivity control ? Thank you

    • @WayneMoran
      @WayneMoran  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Wesam Saka Hello, in general you set the ISO as low as you can to help to get the least noise in the images. Start turning it up if your shutter speed too slow. I hope that helps.

    How do you control light when choosing dof? Say I want a small dof, so I set a f2, but it is a sunny day, won't the photo over expose, because it will give me a high shutter speed. Don't the fstop and shutter speed "play off of one another"? Or maybe I want a shallow depth of field in the woods or darker place and can't get enough light?

    • @WayneMoran
      @WayneMoran  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +KR RANCH Hello.. the quick way to answer this is to add filters..
      The easiest one to add especially on a sunny is to add a polarize filter. This also blues up the sky. If you need it to be darker then you can add Neutral density filters or ND filters.. you can stop down the light up to 10 stops with these dark neutral density filters.
      I hope that helps.

  • @Tiphany757
    @Tiphany757 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Ok So when you use the aperture mode you also have to set your iso too right? You have control over the f stop and iso which will select your automatic shutter speed right?

    • @WayneMoran
      @WayneMoran  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Tiphany757 Yep, I generally set my ISO also. Exactly.

    Hi Wayne, I have been using the aperture priority mode but have discovered my images are super grainy and no where near as crystal clear quality as when I shoot in automatic mode. How do I fix this? I have been doing some research and it looks like lowering the ISO, but I thought in this mode you wouldn't have to adjust anything. Thankyou 😊

    • @WayneMoran
      @WayneMoran  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brooklyn, Always start with the lowest ISO possible.. and then turn it up as necessary.
