- A Russian soldier surrendered to Ukrainian troops near Bakhmut. The exhausted-looking man was questioned as he was taken captive. It comes after Ukraine said its troops advanced 1km on the flanks of the city. Heavy fighting continues around Bakhmut after it was captured by Russia. The 3rd Separate Assault Battalion is leading the fight to reclaim the city.

The people of all nations do not like seeing death on mass from any given country. We all understand it's our leaders at odds with each other. Their own ideologies dictating the policy of all of their people. Normal Americans don't want war the same way normal Ukrainians or Russians dont want war. It's the same across all nations. The people do not want war, whether it's their own being shipped from overseas in a body bag or in our own backyards. We don't want this. Even if it becomes necessary to do so.

Based on Pregozian's statements, I doubt that Russian troops would treat Ukrainian captives with comparable dignity and respect.

The video of the very close quarter trench fighting where 3 russians are gunned down within feet of the camera features a lot of shouting. The ukrainians are shouting to the remaining russian to 'give up and live" but he shouts something back that I couldnt make out and the translate couldnt pick up. Whatever he shouted its pretty clear he's terrified.

You can watch some of prisoner exchanges and see how prisoners look after being treated by the other side. Also there was a ukrainian channel where they posted talks with prisoners.

On the other hand, Russian soldiers themselves have released videos of not only murdering unarmed Ukrainian prisoners on purpose (by methods ranging from shooting to brutal decapitation with a blade), but also killing soldiers on their own side as punishment, for example the Russian paratrooper who was executed by his unit for, allegedly, being pro-Prigozhin.
