Came into the comments section to make exactly this point. I’m old enough to remember when a second row being cleared out so comprehensively by a wing would’ve been a source of abject humiliation.
Something that's interesting to add is that France conceded a cumulative ten points (!) in the last quarter of all its games this 6N. That's 10 points in 100 minutes or so. 3 points against Ireland from Carbery at the 73rd, 7 against Scotland from VDM's try at the 80th. (I'll add they also conceded none against the ABs this Autumn). Stopped England and Wales from scoring a single point after the 60th mark despite being on the backfoot for most of that period. Galthié and his staff had identified the last quarter as being the team's main weakness last year. All the games France lost in the 2020-2021 season were lost within the last 10 minutes, many of them on the siren. So they simulated those kind of tense last minute scenarios over and over again to get it right.

Hi Squidge Rugby ! Once again, a relevant analysis with a lot of humor! Even if you speak a little too fast for my French brain and some jokes must escape me. Indeed, if the philosophy of the French game under Galthié is clear and simple: create movement and bring the ball to life at all costs and as fast as possible, the strategy as you analyze it is perfect: 1/ overwhelm; 2/ overload; 3/ overpass: either by stretching or by perforating. But please… Stop revealing everything to everyone in rugby world 😁😅🙃… Because on October 28, 2023, we all want to cry like Antoine Dupont.
