Sinking is not saving. Of all the iconic ships to save the one with the U.S.A's name on it would/should be at the top. Not to mention the final "Atlantic Ribbon Holder" as being the fastest liner on record and easily beating previous records. With all the bs in our country funded these days, it is truly shameful for this to come.

It is a disgrace to sink this magnificent historic American ship to turn it into a reef. The Queen Mary, which represents England was saved and it is in this country...when the SS United States, our flagship, which represents America, should be the ship that is saved. What happened to patriotism? I hope and pray that something will happen or someone steps in to prevent this tragedy from happening.
Sad to think that this magnificent ship could have been fully restored, and more, with just a fraction of the money that was wasted on the recent elections…
The SSUS is still structurally sound. It should be transformed like we did the Queen Mary, which represents England. The SSUS is America's flagship which radiate a lot of jobs and revenue for this country...well worth it...not a money pit. I'd rather the SSUS be saved than a ship from a foreign country.
Such a shame. The "Conservantry" who aparently were trying to save this ship faild, and took the easy way out. All other historic passenger ships have been saved, so why did this group fail so dismally? The artificial reef is a fantasy and euphemism for cheap disposal. Gulf water temps are soaring and existing reefs are dying. A new one is unlikely to generate. It would have been better to recycle the metal and use it in a new submarine or aircraft carrier so it would in a way live on for decades to come.
