In the 70s and 80s there was a very famous dog trainer called Barbara Woodhouse who was on TV all the time. That was her catchphrase! Oh, and Kristina Wayborn is a trained gymnast - when she slides over the balcony unravelling the fabric, she did that stunt herself.

"As a seven-year-old in about 1983, in the days before First Class Lounges at airports, I was with my grandad in Nice Airport and saw Roger Moore sitting at the departure gate, reading a paper. I told my granddad I'd just seen James Bond and asked if we could go over so I could get his autograph. My grandad had no idea who James Bond or Roger Moore were, so we walked over and he popped me in front of Roger Moore, with the words "my grandson says you're famous. Can you sign this?" Many, many years later, I was working as a scriptwriter on a recording that involved UNICEF, and Roger Moore was doing a piece to camera as an ambassador. He was completely lovely and while the cameramen were setting up, I told him in passing the story of when I met him in Nice Airport. He was happy to hear it, and he had a chuckle and said "Well, I don't remember but I'm glad you got to meet James Bond." So that was lovely. And then he did something so brilliant. After the filming, he walked past me in the corridor, heading out to his car - but as he got level, he paused, looked both ways, raised an eyebrow and in a hushed voice said, "Of course I remember our meeting in Nice. But I didn't say anything in there, because those cameramen - any one of them could be working for Blofeld." I was as delighted at 30 as I had been at 7. What a man. What a tremendous man."
What I like about this is that they finally got a love interest that worked with Roger Moore's age. He's with age contemporaries. He's not that old guy surrounded by much younger people. His chemistry with Maud Adams. A lot of people remember this for the clown outfit, but that's maybe 5 or 10 minutes of the movie max and it makes sense thematically. It's not like telling a tiger to sit or some of the other crazy things Moore had to do in his movies. I'd put this among Roger's better Bond films because they understood how to age him gracefully and it's a good follow up to the last one, where they got rid of a lot of the silliness of previous films and focused on what makes James Bond James Bond. Some of the best scenes in the movie are just him hanging out in India. You never see that kind of thing in modern Bond movie because since the 90s, everyone's in too big a hurry to get to the next action scene. What I appreciate about the movies from 1962 to 1989 is that they're for the most part well paced films. When Goldeneye was made, Martin Campbell did a good job not making a Michael Bay movie while keeping it modern. In 1983, we're still at the point where movies are pretty well paced and there are moments where you can just enjoy a scenario or the way the movie is filmed, the locations. I find it funny that this is one of the first (maybe the 3rd) Bond film where the title of the moment isn't in the theme song, for obvious reasons, but the lyrics match exactly what's going on between Bond and Octopussy. There's a lot I like about this one.
This is the first of a couple of Bond movies in the 80s that feature a main villain duo, instead of just one. Usually people find those less appealing, but I think it gives those characters a good opportunity to cover different villainous vibes. In this one we have Kamal Khan being the bougie, snobby, quick witted villain and Orlov being the crazy, over the top Russian general. I quite like it. Very much looking forward to you reacting to the Timothy Dalton movies. He's my personal favorite Bond.

In this movie you can see for the first time the amazing aerial stuntwork of B.J. Worth and Jake Lombard who are doing the fight scenes on that Beechcraft plane in midair. They will return for all stunts involving aerial work up to "Tomorrow never dies". Together with the great miniature vfx/sfx work by John Richardson (the exploding hangar at the beginning) they really did some amazing scenes!

This movie is more Indiana Jones than James Bond. James Brolin was originally going to play the role of Bond in a screen test that's available online or Blu Ray. Thankfully this version of Bond being an American never happened and Roger Moore was brought in to do Octopussy and A View To A Kill.

The entire mystery with the Fabergé Egg was Unique and clever, and that plane fight at the end was breathtaking. Can’t wait for the next one, it’s a doozy.

I’ll have to go back and watch the feature! *edit: went back and looked, and yes, the stuntman Martin Grace was injured, slammed into a pylon by the train. Was in the hospital for several months with leg and hip injuries but did recover.
