My first impressions of Tenkara fishing and the Wild Water Tenkara Complete Package. Had a blast catching 20+ 10-12" rainbow trout.

Jonathan R. I’ve had it for almost two years and still love the rod and Tenkara fishing. I actually bought a Grand Teton for steelhead and smallmouth bass. I use the Wild Water for stocker and native trout streams. It’s a blast.

Outside Chronicles Steelhead and Smallmouth have got to be the most epic fish on a fly rod. I live near small streams with Longear and Rockbass. Will graduate to the big fish in time, but this setup really seems like the ultimate introduction and your videos answered all of my questions!

Jonathan R. One of the great things of living near Lake Erie and all of its tribs.

Could you just connect tenkara line to the last loop on a regular fly rod to get the feel of this?

You could definitely do that. The only thing you will not have is the length and flexibility that comes with the Tenkara rod. But you could definitely get a feel for casting and landing fish.

Incredible. It’s like you’re fishing with dynamite. You still doing tenkara fishing and using this setup?

Yes, I purchased a stronger Tenkara rod for small mouth and steelhead, but for trout, still using this setup. So simple and easy.

@@OutsideChronicles nice! Thank you for getting back to me. I’m also considering keeping the Wild Water one for trout and getting the Big Rocky for steelhead and salmon when we have it in the winter

I just purchased the Wild Water Tenkara Complete package and have a couple of questions. How do you set the hook on a Tenkara rod and once you've set the hook how do you get the fish in?

You set the hook similar to a fly rod, just raise it up. Since there is a ton of give in the tenkara rod, depending on the fish you may have to use a bit more force than a subtile raise. As for landing a fish, this can be challenging depending on the fish. The best way I have found is to have your landing net on your belt with a magnet. Then hold the rod behind your with your arm extended to the sky, then net the fish. If the fish are very small, you can just grab the line. Big fish will be challenging. I struggle with smallmouth and steelhead. I definitely hook more than I land if I do not have a friend to help.
