NDI’s youth political participation program “Makken” conducted a political camp in Mafraq, at Mafraq Youth Center, for 26 youth (F:26/M:0). These political camps are conducted in cooperation with the Ministry of Youth (MOY) and the Independent Election Commission (IEC).
The political camps involve active youth in a comprehensive four-day training program that concludes with the implementation of a virtual simulation of an election and political parties. The purpose of the political camp is to help youth participants understand political orientations and their impact on policy formulation.
The camp included training on political organizing, which incorporates learning about political parties' structure and ideologies, political orientations, and how to build party programs. Training also included policy development and procedures, coalition building and negotiation, planning electoral political campaigns, as well as the voting process.
The implementation of the virtual simulation is an integral part of the political camp. During the simulation, the work of political parties is explained according to the new political parties’ law No.7 of 2022. This allows youth participants to enhance their knowledge of party work and helps them to better understand their own political orientations.
