  • Sri Ramana taught that surrender as means to transcend the ego is as effective as self-enquiry. Surrender is not the same as 'devotion'. Watch the video to get a glimpse of what Sri Ramana meant by surrender.
    How this video can help you? The aim of this video is to bring about awareness in you - of your own mind and the self, by sharing with you Sri Ramana's teaching on surrender. In the beginning, one may not feel the 'Self' but with sadhana (or practice), one will realize the nature of their true Self which is not the mind. The mind which is created from social conditioning and is a thought-generating machine will slowly dismantle itself. And the Self rises.
    What did you think of this video? Have you come across any other teachings/philosophy that are similar to the ideas in this video?

    My experience of authentic surrender which is non transactional is present when one realizes "God" or the Self not only knows everything about us but also knows utterly what is in our highest good. We then allow that :"flow of power" to be expressed. When that understanding deepens, resistance is more able to be dissolved.

    Surrender is a side effect of self knowledge. When I understand that I am not self created and there must be a factor or principle that creates or projects the multiplicity of lifes creatures then l can surrender my illusions of l and mine. I am actually the awareness of the creator and the creation. In fact they are the same substance because when I inquire into perception there aren’t any boundaries between me the observer and the names and forms in front of me.

    Sir Thankyou for the video. Nevertheless I have a question.
    If I do not even desire Self-Realisation, then how can I proceed on the path of Self-Realisation? It seemed contradictory haha 😅
    Also even if I let go of the desire of Self-Realisation, it would be again with the hope of Self-Realisation that I am giving up such desire.
    So relinquishing the desire of even Self-Realisation, should I keep quiet and focus on 'I'/Self?
    p

    • @Chummairu123
      @Chummairu123 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, just keep quiet, observe everything(thought,actions,reactions,body movement)as a witness, focus only on I (self)

      @Clash Test
      I see where you are coming from. It is alright to feel the 'desire' in the beginning. This desire will be from the 'virtuous ego' and not from the 'vicious ego'. On practicing self-enquiry, you would realize (from the depth of your heart) that your real nature was the Self, and all the desiring you did were out of ignorance.
      You would realize this completely out of your own experience (and not because you heard it from someone or read it somewhere). Once you realize that you are 'infinite', all desires naturally cease. When you know - really KNOW - your true Self, you would no more desire to become anything other than that. This may sound easy to say or type, but it needs to be experienced consciously to know that it is true.
      It is not wrong or bad to desire. There is no need to glorify or vilify desire. Desire is part of spiritual evolution, and it would eventually be transcended by those who are self-realized.
      Meanwhile, Be gentle. Be curious. Do not force yourself to relinquish desire. Let go off desire naturally, as you feel love and compassion. 🙏🙏🙏

      🙂 the ego (Jiva) wants to be reabsorbed back into that (Atman) which created it. It's funny but a movie that comes close to this condition (Jiva, thoughts out-of-control) is An Amercian Werewolf in London.
      You (Atman) heavily and unconsciously identify with these thoughts, and that becomes an ego.
      So, fine. You know at a foundational level, there is something "wrong". The desire for Self Realization will get you to practice and/or meditate.
      Just know that the desire for Self Realization, is Just a thought, nothing more. Atman (Self) is thought- less, so the desire (a thought, part of ego) will need to be abandoned to realize Self. Shouldn't be a problem, it is just one thought, that's all. But if you heavily identify with it, it Will stick, and will take that much longer to un-identify with. But keep at it; it Will happen, as you want to move from.. lots of ego, little Self to -->
      Self and no thing more.

    I see contradiction in his idea of motivelessness. Afterall, Sri Raman was man and therefore fallible. Desire sets the wheels of manifestation into motion. The desire for self-realisation is the path to union with the Higher Self. So no Master Sri Raman, with all due respect, your extreme view is wrongheaded. We as human beings inhabiting flesh and blood must have the desire for union with the all to achieve said union. Or in other words, FOH!
