Jason Macendale is a one of a kind. He's been Hobgoblin, Demogoblin and Jack O'Lantern. You could never tell what his identity would be next, but my favorite definitely would be Demogoblin, because they really gave an entire backstory on that character, mixing the science fiction of the Goblin with demon magic. Him struggling to serve the demon inside him and punish those it deemed worthy, who were basically everyone, just a great concept.
Demogoblin is a badass.
This is why the comics are superior to the movies
There is no way something like this will ever be introduced to the MCU because it’s too “unrealistic”
Comics have the amazing freedom of being just that, absolutely incredible video as always!

I don't think realism is the issue anymore - they've been pushing the weird stuff pretty heavily lately. The problem is scale. Street-level baddies like Jack here just aren't too interesting to Marvel at the moment; they want their threats to be huge and spectacular. They want another Thanos - I don't think they're going to GET another Thanos, the way their writing has been going downhill lately, but that's the sort of villain they want. If Jack O'Lantern DOES show up in the MCU, it'll be as a throwaway joke like all those poor suckers who made it into 'She-Hulk'.
For a little-known villain outside of the comics, Macendale sure had a roller coaster of life. It's like the writers have complete freedom to do what they want with Macendale. "Now he's Hobgoblin... now he's half demon... now he's a cyborg."
Not forgetting that his first alias started his own legacy.
all very true! i enjoyed macendale. he was no kingsley, but he was memorable and entertaining.
It's crazy that flying platforms are so common in New York and yet no one has tried to just market them to the general public for commuting.

I clicked on the Jack Lennar video having no idea I was going to learn about hobgoblin at the same time. I don’t know why but a part of me felt like I was rooting for this dude to have a win. He just seem to lose a lot. 😅
I have wondered about this guy for a while
This was like a two-in-one video. We got the history of Jack O'Lantern and most of the history of Hobgoblin. A great start to the month of Halloween.
Have you ever considered doing a video on the history of the Goblin legacy? The here have been at least a half dozen or so characters to use some form of Goblin in their costumed identity. We've had Green, Hob, and Red goblins, as well as Goblin Queens. it could be a fascinating look at how Norman Osborn has influenced many different villains and heroes to adopt some form of his costumed identity.

Might legit be my favorite spiderman villain.
He's just so...not a heavy hitter. He's a villain who drops n to add a complication into a hero's life, usually at the worst possible time, tracking his story and his appearances is actually fun because he GOES AWAY sometimes and we might not see him for a long while before he shows up again.
I'd say turn every Doc Ock or Green Goblin story into a Jack O Lantern story instead, but that'd defeat the point, huh?

What would have happened if we saw the Jack'O'Lantern in the 90s Spider-Man animated series where we saw Hobgoblin? Do you think we will see him in the MCU and in the Sony universe?
I think Jack would be a great Green Goblin variant for the main MCU. Since Willem Dafoe's Goblin has been in the MCU, it would be kinda weird if Peter came across another Green Goblin named Norman Osborn and not see it coming having fought one from another universe. The upcoming Spider-Man Freshman Year does have Norman as Peter's mentor but I think they're making that an alternate continuity. Jack would be a great way for the MCU to have a new but similar character.
@@Dimensioneer88 Just like Parker Robins the Hood, What would happen if we saw the Jack'O'Lantern in the MCU and that too in the Ironheart Disney Plus show because of his demonic side and him having technology like his glider also that show is exploring both magic and science which someone like Dr Doom has both of them?

Technically speaking Jack o lantern was in the 90's animated series, but Jason Macendale was not Jack o' lantern he was just in his hobgoblin identity.
It would be great if he was the villain of Tom Holland's fourth film, played by Eli Roth (yes, Eli Roth, in addition to directing really badass horror movies like Cabin Fever and Hostel is an actor) and give green goblin ptsd to Tom Holland's Spiderman
I’ll admit i always liked macendale as the hobgoblin more than jack o lantern, that’s mainly because I don’t have any comics with Kingsley as the hobgoblin. Which is why I kinda have a soft spot for the mad jack version of the character.
It seems like Steve Ditko regretted his decades long grudge against his best creations and decided to create an analogue to the Green Goblin .
He looks more rad compared to Goblin!

Brian Michael Bendis wrote Secret War. He’s notorious for continuity snafus so I would disregard that.
I like the newer version with the witch broom and drone bombs, the older version was like a poor man’s hobgoblin.

The demo goblin was probably the best Venomised version of a character without actually giving them a symbiote.

Thank you for featuring Jack-o-Lantern! He holds a special place in my heart as he was Spidey’s foe in the very first Spider Man comic I ever bought with my own $$. My exposure to Spidey up to that point had been from the Spider Man and his Amazing Friends show, and I never got an idea of just how strong and powerful Spidey was. Until he ripped a quarter ton lead lined door and tossed it at Jacky, missing him by a hair just to mess with him. Thank you for bringing back such good memories of the local news stand where I bought this 😊!

Ah, yes. I grew up on the Macendale Hobgoblin. He was a favorite of mine (He was MY Hobgoblin!). But now, I realized that he was a crappy Hobgoblin and kind of lame as the Jack O’Lantern too. Ah, well! This was a nice trip down memory lane. Thanks for doing this .
90s Cartoon Hobgoblin was heavily implied to be Macendale, so that was cool at least.
@@quinteson2853 - Oh no, it was outright STATED that he was! He was Felicia’s (The Black Cat’s.) fiancé . I think that he only appeared once. I believe that this was BEFORE Roderick Kingsley was even revealed to be The Hobgoblin in the comics! I read that the writers of the cartoon didn’t like The Hobgoblin and didn’t really want to use him. But it was Macendale .

The first time I saw Jack O'Lantern was when Lucifer inhabited Jack's corpse and fought Johnny Blaze Ghost Rider during Daniel Way's run then the next I saw Jack (somebody else was in the suit) in the comics was when he almost killed some cops during an illegal weapons bust gone was confronted by Eddie Brock Venom beats him up & almost kills him after Knull takes over Venom during Donny Cates' run.

With marvel there came a point with various characters that was too incarnations it really gets confusing like with hulk for instance how incarnations things used to be much simpler

Oh, wow, I actually grew up with Macendale when he was possessed, the Demogoblin and Levins during Civil War and his body being possessed by Satan. I never would have guessed that Macendale wasn't the original Hobgoblin but WAS the original Jack O'Lantern and that the one Satan body-jacked was his successor. I love how life will take turns in the Marvel Universe, leading characters who were originally one-off Machine Man villains into spawning temporary Spider-Man foes and successors whose bodies would fight Ghost Rider for two issues (now that I think of it, Johnny Blaze fighting the possessed Macendale and then later the possessed Levins means he fought two instances of Macendale's legacy possessed by a demon without realizing it).
But I also like that where concerns Jack O'Lanterns, death in the Marvel Universe can actually be permanent sometimes (not counting the clone because that's a separate person, not whoever he was based on reborn).
He seems like a rip off of the goblin just with a different Halloween theme name and look

It's not pronounced "mac-ken-dale".. 'A "mac-ken-dale" pronunciation would be assumed under a Scottish etymology, but in that case, the first vowel (or consonant) following "Mac" would be capitalized. But this "e" is, and has always been, small-case. Therefore, It is not Scottish derived, and is pronounced as "may-sen-dale".

You know, I wondered about that. Honestly, I think Mason-dale sounds better, but Mack-endale is how it was said in the 90s Spider-Man animated series, and he's occasionally referred to as "Mac" in the comics. That being said, I can't find any other examples of anybody being named Macendale so I think it's a completely made up name.

The Secret War was not part of a regular comic, but an Italian painter's prestige format. The deadlines were different, and continuity changes were not forwarded after the project began.
If you are going to get your nose out of joint, that is your personal option.
