    It’s so cool to come back to TH-cam periodically for ONI research and find that people are still making tutorials for it within the last year or earlier. It’s such a niche game compared to Don’t Starve, yet the community has never died or lost interest in it.

      @EchoRidgeGaming How many Drecko ranches that you recommended to build? I nearly start to build them in my colony. At first idea, I plan to build 1 Drecko&Blam + 1 G.Drecko&Mealwood ranches. But after I watch your clip and think do 1 or 2 Drecko&Meawood is enough? Or plus another Drecko&Blam (But in locate far out because temperature) better? Can you recommend me?, please.

    Here's a free food farm:
    Balm lilly is grow resourse free. So its free food for dracos. Its a bit tricky and automation heavy to setup but complete real. You need provide layer of hot hlorine,(water layer with terpendiser on isolated tiles) then farm tiles over it, (also need some automation for gas exchange to remove co2 builded aside of you farm pack) then layer oxygen for dupes and at last dome of hydrogen. On practice its a pack of vertical style farms, its tricky to build properly first time, but when set up it gives free meat and fiber forever.

    Just did the maths, using pincha isnt actually much of a bad idea. you need 3 pincha per drecko. the pwater for pincha could be harassed from lavatories, in which case 6 lavatory uses would be sufficient for pincha per day. please note that you wont be setting up the drecko ranch the moment you build lavatories, so you don't need to get exactly 6 lavatory uses per pincha since you will have some pwater in a storage. if i didnt make any mistakes, this setup won't produce any glossy dreckos, however is a fully sustainable drecko ranch. moreover, pincha doesnt have a spesific atmosphere requirement so the whole room could be fully covered in hydrogen.

    • @JD-wu5pf
      @JD-wu5pf ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Pincha pepper plants take 35kg of pwater per cycle. 3 per drecko means each drecko requires 105kg of pwater per cycle. Lavatories give out 11.7kg of pwater a cycle, but 5kg of that goes and feeds back into your toilets, so you only profit 6.7kg per lavatory per cycle. If you aren't recycling the pwater back into your toilet system, then it isn't really "sustainable". If you are, then you'd need (105/6.7) about 16 lavatories to feed enough pincha plants for one drecko.

    I use a two story ranch. so i have two floors and two roofs. both roofs and the top floor are in hydrogen. the bottom floor is in whatever the plants need, so chlorine for balm lilies (inside the regular drecko farm, balm lilies are cheaper) and CO2 for the mealwood (inside the glossy drecko farm).
    I have jumpable gaps on the two sides, so technically the second floor is mostly "floating". on it i have the shearing and grooming stations, the gaps allow the dreckos to jump to it.
    the first floor height is 3 blocks, 2 for the bottom gas (so the plants can grow) and the 3rd block is full with hydrogen so the scales can grow when they are hanging right above the plants.
    i havent made a specific test, but i would say they stay about 50% of the time inside hydrogen (if not more, technically about 65-70% of the room is in hydrogen), so the growth is quite fast and to me it is more pleasing... more natural.
    technically it looks like this (crappy ascii art since youtube comment are not great):

    Great overview! Your tutorials are great for learning basics and knowing enough to go and play. I have seen some others, a little more 'advanced' ways to shear a drecko, which are now my standard. First is made bij 2legitcity, which utilizes a way to keep your drecko's close to the mealwood and close to the grooming and shearing station, while almost exclusively being in hydrogen. The other is from tuxii industries and called a drecko pod, it requires some fancy phosphor melting but prevents your drecko's from being overcrowded and cramped.

    I usually don't bother incubating my drecko-eggs and can still keep my ranch full and have lots of extras in the starvation-shearing-chamber. Not sure if you heared about the Pezdispenser and the Pezdrowner, but with those contraptions you can automatically refill your ranches. The Pezdrowner looks similar to the drowning-chamber from your hatchtutorial. You have a 2-widechamber (usually above the ranch) with a drop of water in it and a mechanized airlock above it. When a critter hatches, a critter-sensor makes the mechanized airlock close so the chamber is basically full of water and the critter starts drowning. Another critter-sensor in your ranch then decides if a pneumatic door on the side of the pool opens so the critter can enter the ranch if more are needed. As soon as the critter reaches the door, it will close that door and push the critter downwards into the ranch. For the dreckos you would have a pneumatic door on both sides and make the automation decide to open the door to the ranch or the door that leads to the starvation-chamber.
    Long story short: with some creative automation, I never need to worry about incubating eggs or refilling my ranches. It takes a bit longer to get started and I might get a bit less stuff, but it is very convenient.

    One thing you don't explain, that seems completely important to me, is the fact that you leave them to starve without even explaining why. Why do you leave them to starve? Do they not need to eat? Do they die but before they die they produce several amounts of fiber/plastic?....

    Uhhh, this is kind of cheesy, but by using pips and burried pot(the one for decoration) you can access to most of the plants without the cost of the require material. In the dlc, using this with the grubfruit, you can have infinite food, but the downside is you can have the grubrub rub the fruit for you.

  • @travisperkins9920
    @travisperkins9920 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    One minor thing to note about Dreckos is that they don't like to pass through tiles of water. Either a 2 wide pool in the floor, or a single tile above a 3 high door/tile wall will prevent them from moving from where you want them.
    I prefer to have a single stable with 6 drecko whose only job is laying eggs. These eggs then go to a hydrogen filled starvation chamber where they are eventually sheared. Only the starvation stable is liquid locked, the other is just oxygen and I don't bother shearing them. With a few dozen drecko in the starvation stable, the 6 fewer harvests are negligible in the late game.

    On my latest playthrough I did a 12 tile wide main ranch with all the mealwood and stations on the bottom and a nice hydrogen hood and it work amazingly well. My overflow was similar at 7 tiles wide for the the critter drop off and 2 shearing stations (I should've just did 1). Great video.

    It took me ages to start ranching Dreckos, now its one of the first things I set up in a new colony. I use the starvation shearing room but I don't bother with the Hydrogen in the room with the food, I am pretty late game now and I have more plastic and reed fibre than I know what to do with, I do always have an auto sweeper for the Phosphorite, Fibre and plastic. I also add in an incubation chamber in the main feeding room with a critter sensor, < 5 it turns on so there's always an egg in the room and the auto sweeper moves the rest into the shearing shed! Very underrated animal in oni, almost feels OP having reed fibre and plastic from the same farm

    One small note, on an otherwise excellent tutorial: mealwoods placed in a ranch, cooled down by wheezeworts, can produce mutated seeds. With this in mind, I usually leave the mealwood on auto harvest, but at a very low priority, allowing dreckos to have feeding priority. Usually, they'll prioritize the closest edible plant, so there will be some mutations with this, atleast in my experience.

  • @kukuc96
    @kukuc96 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    What about using Balm Lilies for Drecko food? That is maintenance free as it doesn't need an input, and also won't need cooling, as it likes the hot like Dreckos. The only complication is the need for a Chlorene atmosphere, but since the Caustic Biome contains both Chlorene and Hydrogen, with a bit of planning you can capture a nice mix of both into your stable room.

    I always make 16x6 tiles stables, put some hydrogen halfway to the top. Doors by the floor only to keep it inside. 1 sheer, 1 stable "desk", 1 critter drop point. The rest with mealworms pants with cold liquid pipes to cool them. 2 sweepers will cover the stable. I get the eggs in water with the sweepers for meat and always have one egg hatching in an incubator, which only gets power enough time for a rancher to hug it. Maybe not the best to get plastic and reed in large numbers but easy to maintain without much waste. didn't quite get the setup with 40 dreckos. Don't they get a debuff that will make them lay eggs, make phosphorite and grow hair for a lot longer?

    Hey question about a long-term setup: How do you manage tasks to repopulate the main breeding ranch as those Dreckos die off? It's very annoying to check every few cycles and manually wrangle new dreckos for the ranch.

    • @Keyce0013

      If you spare 3 extra spaces for a Critter Pick-up (set for the Dreckos you want to keep) inside of your Hydrogen-enriched Shearing Station/Starving chamber and set Max Critters to 0, your dupes will automatically wrangle the appropriate critter and move it into the correct ranch, if you set the Critter Drop-off to the right number.

    I love your videos and appreciate what you've created for us new players. I do have a question, how do you prevent your farms from dying off? If the sweeper is taking the eggs wouldn't all the Dreckos in the stables die off from old age? Do you manually wrangle and return some from the incubation room?

    • @EchoRidgeGaming
      @EchoRidgeGaming  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Dupes will automatically grab dreckos from incubators once they are hatched and refill the stables.

    Really nice info. Looking at a lot of these tutorials shows me how I could be far more efficient with little tricks with block placement and ways to make a room serve multiple purposes with little tricks. But I've never been a fan of things like that since it feels a bit exploity, so I try to avoid it. Probably why I always fail and have never reached a sustainable colony, but water locks and plumed toilets are about as far as I'll go down that path. I guess I just feel wrong when I toy with the mechanics of the game to make rooms as efficient as possible. I prefer making it more "realistic" in that the rooms and items in the rooms need to serve the purpose as they're intended.

    Awesome tutorial as always. But in this one we could use a no maintenance one? like a natural growth plants and stuff, I had one with planted balm on clorine that had no farming involved and I'd love to have a natural woodworm one...
    I'm running away from hatches cause they now eat way too much of my stuff, I'll probably set a great many pip ranches and feed them dirt (probably even glum pips to save the manpower, lol) edit: that'd be between 12 and 13 pips per hatch, ouch... about 11,2 pip stables per hatch stable... yeah, definitelly no grooming for those, even collecting the dirt is gonna be energy intense, and i didn't even consider the growing when a pip do die... at least pips are sustainable unlike hatches... or 2,8 pip stables to plant 28 mealwood per hatch stable, still a bit work intensive...

    I made this farm in my game and all my gloosy dreckos keep dying of starvation. I dont see hin putting food into the glossy dreckos room. How are his not dying of hunger, can someone please explain it to me. I really want to use this farm design

    The worst part is disposing unwanted gasses and filling the room with Hydrogen.
    That part always pisses me off.

      A bit exploit-y but one of the first things I do is a multi-gas infinite storage chamber that sorts out gas using mechanical filters. Then I ran a gas main line across my base to collect all the unwanted gas and overflow from everywhere. Usually a six chamber works for the most important and common gases of the early and mid game: Oxygen, Polluted Oxygen, CO2, Hydrogen, Chlorine, and Natural Gas. Thus when I was ready to build my Drecko ranch I had the hydrogen at hand.

    Won't the base dreckos eventually just have 100 percent chance of glossy?

    • @gallantgabby
      @gallantgabby 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I usually have 2 ranches, a glossy eating mealwood and regular eating balm lily

      I believe the chances resets for regular dreckos born, so it is an almost infinite cycle

      @EchoRidgeGaming  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, there is always a chance for a reg dreckos and it is enough to keep the stable full over the 150 cycles.

    Can anyone explain the hydrogen shearing room to me please? Are they just kept there wild and hungry? Thanks for the video Echo. Only now starting the game so everything is new to me :)

    • @EchoRidgeGaming
      @EchoRidgeGaming  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      No they are tame but starving. All the eggs from our ranch go there. Since they are in hydrogen 100% of the time, their coats grow back all the time for multiple sheers before they eventually... um... transform into meat. :)

      You want to tame them so they produce more! (At least in these examples)

    One major tip for growing mealwood, if you put the mealwood in a "bowl" that has the bottom layer of CO2, and then the rest of the room can be filled to the brim with hydrogen. You can put the bowl above the shearing and grooming station, allowing the dupes to tend them without suits and making the dreckos spend more time in hydrogen.
