    It's weird, I have a very deep voice (comparable to Geoff's) and I tried to do throat bass and sounded like someone strangling a frog, and it hurt like hell. Props to Layne for the array of sounds he can do.

      Geoff is a freak of nature. Also depends on if you can carry a tune in the first place

    • @johndeeregreen4592
      @johndeeregreen4592 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      @@melissastruxness512, Geoff is very unique is his control and agility for being a bass. Lots of bass singers can get well above tenor range and lots can do very low subharmonics (myself included, on both accounts). Now, where Geoff is different, he can bounce between both high and low, while also having absolute perfect control doing it. Bass voices have long and thick vocal folds, which normally create a delay (latency) when trying such vocal acrobatics. I have been singing bass for over 30 years and have only encountered maybe 3 bass singers who can jump around the way Geoff can... and NONE have his pleasant tone.

      any false chord stuff "kinda" hurts (i feel like it's more like a scratch and a tiredness, but i've done some form of it since childhood). if you want to get better at it, stop when it hurts, and then try again the next day or the day after

    That’s the thing with Geoff. He not only has that naturally low voice, but he puts a LOT of work into it. Nobody sounds that smooth naturally.
    You KNOW if there’s a lyric containing “hounds of hell,” Geoff is taking it to the cellar.
    I love Cesar-he always brings his own take to things. If you watch during that inhaled growl, it almost looks like he might have done it, by the way. Both times-but it also looks like Layne did it. 🤷🏻‍♀️
    Gotta layer Layne, or else he never has time to breathe in this. LOL.
    Wait-what? I was having FUN watching you hear it through the second time-where did you go??

    Ed Boyer does the final mixing and he's a genius when it comes to a cappella groups. Home Free and several others use him.
    I'm not as familiar with Anthony's skill set but all the guys in VP can sing tenor, baritone, bass, and beatbox to varying degrees. Gives them a lot of options in handing off or doubling up. Geoff said he doesn't do the inhale (ingressive phonation?) because his doesn't sound good. Layne can, as he does here and in Enemy.

    • @toddmaliepaard9777
      @toddmaliepaard9777 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      He does it in the last line for We Don't Talk About Bruno too, and most reactors seem to miss it because it sounds so clear still.

  • @marshayoung9387
    @marshayoung9387 ปีที่แล้ว +20

    There is a slight reverb or vibration added to One of Geoff's notes . Other than that it is all Geoff. As far as the beatboxer / percussionist goes it is all Layne the beatboxer. He has a wider range than Geoff if you include his inhale notes. Layne is the only one of the group that can do that. Thank you for another great reaction to Voice Play. Come on is Geoff's trademark. He does that most of the time in all of his videos & Voice Play videos. This was filmed in an abandoned department store in the same mall where their Patty-cake studio is.

  • @candilunsford2878
    @candilunsford2878 ปีที่แล้ว +22

    Even above their amazing voice talent is the fact they do everything involved themselves except for the final mixing and some of the more elaborate make up. Geoff arranged this one, and Layne (beatboxer) does the other half. Eli (Ellie, bald rock god) does most of their lighting and has even worked with Unreal Engines for backgrounds. Geoff's wife Kathy is their producer, and Layne is co-owner of PattyCake Productions where they do a lot of their filming. They don't have a label either.

  • @Traci2000

    Layne's snare is practically legendary at this point. Even live on stage with crappy sound quality video his snare sounds like an actual drum. It's just so crisp and clear.
    These guys are exploring right now and finding all the fun little tricks that work for them. I'm having a blast going along for the ride. Can't wait to see what they do next!
    If you haven't seen their version of "Valhalla Calling" yet, I'd definitely recommend checking that one out. It's a viking banger! I was ready to match off to war after that one! 😂

    You have become my favorite reactor / analyst of Voiceplay and Geoff Castellucci. I love your in-depth explanations of how the sounds are made both with voice and technology. My only complaint is that I wish your video was longer! This one cut off too soon, you were on a roll. Too bad time zones are a thing, I'd love to catch one of your live streams. Followed over on Twitch just in case insomnia strikes, ha.
