I can't believe how engrossing these speedruns are to watch. I recently watched a ~41 minute WR any% of the original Super Metroid, and it was jaw-dropping to see the movement. This even more so, I can hardly believe my eyes. I'm no speedrunner, just a 10yo from 94 with an emulator in 2017 for the nostalgia. Hyper Metroid is the first hack I've played, and I try to selectively crib notes from these speedruns for regular non-speedrun play. In this one, just after getting the speedbooster, there's a hook-shaped room with a power bomb behind slow-closing doors. Starts at 41:10. How in the world do you maintain the boost all the way through? I get about halfway, through the first column on the upper level, then lose it, and the doors are long-closed by the time I'm to them. I feel like this hack does a great job of making moments like this one into little tutorials/tests on how to use the upgrades, but I'm lost on this one.
after running long enough, samus will get the speed echoes, which breaks the speed blocks. the trick to getting that item is to slow down the horizontal speed while maintaining the speed echoes. you can do this by spin jumping (note: needs to be spinning) and turn around twice quickly. so for example, if samus is running to the right, do a spinjump, and press left then right to slow down. there are a few other methods to achieve the same thing as well.
It's definitely not. Too much inconsistency throughout the run, but it seems like there are two different play styles mixed in-between the two. One was at times quite literally step/frame perfect with shinesparks, and the other was rather clumsy with the gimme shots and recoveries. TL;DR: Skill is there, but _poor execution..._ Make an honest investment in the run, and I'm sure this person could shave at least few minutes off the method they played here (might very well have by now). Watching it was literally death by a thousand cuts, but I had to finish because it's a fantastic romhack. The modifications are literally everything I wanted if I wanted a remake to Super Metroid. Faster base shooting speed/physics of attacks. Morph bombs fire faster. Ammo System is more of an energy-based storage (rouge-esque). And most importantly the speed booster is redone. God I have always wanted to shinespark everywhere without consequence like Superman... I wonder about things like Crystal Flash, and the other items have been modified.

I've found a Romhack of Hyper Metroid called Hyper Metroid LLE (Less Linear Edition) it's not a very good Romhack as yes it does remove most of the numbered gates (as I went past the removed gate #1 in Crateria) but however they don't unlock at all in Tourian meaning you can't bet to Tourian and beat the game

Why? The old game is so heavily optimised now, and few people can keep up with Zoasty, so new hacks are needed to give people a chance. Plus, this looks fun as hell, and it hardly tarnishes the old game.

Yep. It's a special feature of the mod. You crouch, hold down the run button and then jump. And you can go flying backwards. It's awesome.

you can hold down the shoot button before you get the charge beam, and perform rapid fire. very useful vs ridley.

iirc the intended way is you need grapple + hi jump/walljump or ice beam + springball

Metroid ROM hacking was a mistake.
Why? The old game is so heavily optimised now, and few people can keep up with Zoasty, so new hacks are needed to give people a chance. Plus, this looks fun as hell, and it hardly tarnishes the old game.
Messing up some sound effects is what bothers me the most.
