I'm fairly new at sewing and I've never made a proper shirt before. I'm waiting on my Archer shirt pattern to arrive and thought I'd watch the sew along while I wait....I have to say that this sew along is by far the best detailed instructional video I have ever seen. I cannot thank you enough...this will be my first "Grainline" pattern and if all the other tutorials are even half as good as this one then I can't wait to sew more of the Grainline Studio garments. This video tutorial is absolutely great!! Super clear, detailed and a good pace. I have sewn along with the whole Archer series - and now have a fabulous new shirt! Defo worth taking your time with each step. I have been sewing for a couple of years but have always fallen at the collar hurdle. You truly are a brilliant teacher and you being so calm while showing us all the necessary steps is so comforting ! I have finished my first Archer and will be starting my second Archer next week . I hope to improve certain areas and shorten the sleeves slightly . I was so terrified of the collar as usually this is the part I get confused however with your assistance , I just sailed through this part and I was so happy ! Thank you . This sew-a-long helped me by giving me something I had control over. I have sewn several Archers in the past. This one was the most fun and the most rewarding. I took my time and watched each step. One of my favorite things is learning new techniques and you taught me plenty. I am so proud of my newest Archer. It is by far the best. I am thrilled that you want to make a sew-a-long for all of your patterns!! They sooth my sewing soul.
You just made my week! It was definitely a bit stressful making these with everything that's going on but it also gave me a nice routine to go upstairs and film and edit. I'm so glad you were able to get a bit of a routine out of it as well! And I'm so proud of your Archer too!!!

I just gotta say that I hated sewing buttons by hand so much, I avoided button closures. But I have a great button sewing foot now and watching you here reminded me of why I was so happy with my newer machine! I am looking forward to starting an Archer shirt this week-finally found the right fabric for it.
Oof I also just hate sewing them on by hand, but I'm so happy you've reunited with your button sew-on foot! Definitely tag us on social media if you post because I love seeing everyone's projects!
This is the best button and button hole placement video on TH-cam! Super clear and demystified the whole process. My one question is if we do wrong sides together to mark the buttons, will the side to side variation be the mirror image of what it should be? Thanks for such a wonderful tutorial!
If you're talking about the cuffs and collarstand yeah, you'll need to mark the side where the button will sit so for the collarstand you would mark the button to the left side of the buttonhole. Hope that makes sense, currently sick so my explanation powers are a bit lacking. If you have q's let me know!

I'm so glad you're ready to take on the Archer! As I always say, it's not really hard, just a lot of compounding steps. The Yates would be so fun, i've been meaning to do a sew-along for adding some tailoring so maybe a 2-parter once we get it drafted for 14-30!

I have to tell you I’ve just used your entire tutorial for making the archer button up. I’ve made a few of them before and love them but I do get a bit stuck at certain points. I think probably the reason you sew through your fingers is because you have cooked your skin with the steam so you have no sensation, LOL. Thanks for doing the sew a longs I learn something from each of the lessons. Did you get the Teflon Pressing Sheet yet?
I just ordered it yesterday! Will keep you posted on its arrival. And yeah definitely plays into how I can sew my fingers to a garment, hahahaha! 50% convenient, 50% very disturbing!
