John Wilkes Booth, Edwin Booth(brother) and Junius Brutus Booth(father). The father was from London. They were extremely famous in their day. It would be like the modern day equivalent to Martin Sheen, Charlie Sheen and Emilio, and Charlie Sheen killed the president. It was almost unbelievable. John Wilkes was able to make it to the Presidents box in the theater with ease because of his fame and a lazy guard

His brother Edwin Booth saved the son of Abraham Lincoln from serious injury or perhaps death. (See Edwin Booth in Wikipedia) when Robert Lincoln was pushed against train car by individuals purchasing tickets and when the train started to move he fell between the platform and the train. This occurred a few months prior to John Booth murdering Abraham Lincoln.

I am from Alabama and I actually used to do this civil war reenactment back in the late 1980s and early 1990s as a teen. I was at a re enactment like this very close to where they filmed this video in Resaca Georgia but with alot more people . These events are located at real historical battlefield sites and national parks . Most of the people that do this are history nerds that love the history aspect of it. I only did this because a group of friends and older guys I knew asked me to do it. It was tiring and boring camping out in the woods but It was fun to be honest at times and those are 100% real guns . My friends used to go hunting with them . We (the Confederate army re enactors) used reproduction British Enfield muskets from the 1850s and 1860s. A few people I knew used real Enfield muskets from the 1800s not reproductions that still worked . We also used real black powder ammo except it didnt have the 58 caliber lead bullet on the end.

Just found your comment, and I appreciate it because I just typed something similar. It's really important for history nerds. My 8th grade history teacher and my best friend (under his mentorship) were Confederate reenactors here in WA State (4th Texas, if I remember correctly). I used to love to go. Watch the battles, eat the food, watch fake surgeries and just hang out with the actors. They all knew so much it was crazy.

Living history reenactments are pretty neat. Many of the actors portray real people from history, many of them past family membera. They learn all they can about life in those days, and portray it in real life for others to see instead of simply read about. For them it's more than playing dress up, and more about teaching others through demonstration. It's sort of like going to a museum, except the displays are alive and interactive.

Too answer your question about TP, the father of American toilet tissue is said to be J.C. Gayetty, and his “Gayetty’s Medicated Paper for the Water-Closet” was available from the Civil War era, well into the 1920s. However, consistent supply to the troops was lacking, so torn pages from books, magazines or newspapers were commonly used.

Re-enactments typically include spectators (who are not part of the "war") to watch while the battles are re-enacted. Most take place on historical Civil War battlegrounds, and will include narration regarding what is happening. Some also have tents where they have legit amputees with "civil war doctors" using bone saws to amputate limbs and educate spectators on the medical practices of the era. Many of the actors set up their own canvas tents and stay there for several days. It's pretty cool if you're into history.

Dave, the movie Gettysburg there were 5,000 extras used to film the battle. There have been a few others too, although none recently.
This is done many times at civil war battlefields and on anniversaries like the Battle of Gettysburg.
It's also about being part of living history, people go to Gettysburg for example to the historical park July 1st- 3rd for the reenactment of the battle. It's usually jam packed.
In this the distance they stood army against army was exactly how it happened then. It's how wars were fought then and why they were so many deaths and casualties.
There are also those who do Revolutionary War reenactments.
