Fun fact: Flanagan literally recreated every set from the og Shining. The only thing CGI was the blood elevator because it was next to impossible to get the fake blood to fall in the same manner as the original. This was a passion project for him for sure.
And it shows, it’s just so refreshing to see someone take the time to basically continue a story that people have such a close connection with, I mean you talk to any horror buff and the shining will more than likely be on their list. So he had some big shoes to fill, but he more than succeeded. He’s just amazing
Every Flanagan horror film/series is so beautifully shot/written/directed that it has to be a passion project.You can feel just how much this director just loves horror, god I love him.

Jacob Tremblay sure enough traumatized everyone including his costars on set with his crying. And he did it on his birthday and when the scene ended he jumped up and had some cake like it was nothing 😂

Jacob Trembley, that boy is a phenom of an actor...when he was crying and hollering in pain, it seemed too real...like, super uncomfortable, it had me almost in tears. That sacrifice scene still haunts me...
I read that he was so good that Rose the Hat's actor, who has a son, was actually emotionally traumatized by his performance. Oftentimes the best villain actors have soft hearts IRL.
They actually rebuilt the Overlook Hotel set from the original blueprints in the archives. That set was built to scale from the same schematics they used in 1978 to build the original set. So they didn't just guesstimate: they did it for real.
Now that’s commitment right there, I love that so much cuz you can tell that they were committed to making a great horror movie. Thanks for that luv

Stephen King actually said that this movie redeemed everything he hated about Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining adaptation. He watched the movie with Mike in his home theater and told him he did a beautiful job and that it made him kinda warm his feelings up to the Shining adaptation. This movie should’ve won all the awards and I hope Mike uses Ewan McGregor in his next The Haunting. I was also shook when I found out that the actor that played Dick wasn’t the original actor bc I saw the movie the day it came out and have been thinking that ever since then I found out the original actor died in 86’. Wow. The actor for this one did a really great job.

Of course he did. He hated the film Kubrick made because Kubrick used it as a mere vehicle for his own actual masterpiece. Kings pride got in the way and he’s been making a fool of himself for decades criticizing a film which most now consider a masterpiece. Btw, NO ONE considers the book a masterpiece. A good book? Sure. Jealousy.

I love how he finds true stuff and finds a qay to put it in one of his books. My favorite author of all time!

Horror is the red headed step child of movies. Even when a movie is amazing and made well, they rarely acknowledge it. Toni Colette not getting nominated for Hereditary is a travesty.
I loved all of this. There were some excellent moments in the book that I was sad didn’t make it into the film, but I loved how they navigated between the film and book’s canons.
A bit of a book spoiler that I thought they missed out on in the movie, Danny was Abra’s actual uncle. Its why she connected with him so early on. At the end (Danny survives in the book) Danny realizes that his dad was cheating on Wendy before he was fired from his teaching position, and Abra’s mom is his half-sister.

Technically she does even Charlie from firestarter
They both shined, tho carries was natural and charlie mcgees was from her parent being experimented on which makes charlie a mutant as she was born with latent powers and far stronger than her parents whod tire easily.

I loved this movie except for the ending, Danny absolutely did not deserve to die he grew so much with his sobriety and helping people.
Of course Danny deserved better, and in the book he got out alive and was welcomed as an actual uncle into Abra's family. But if you think about it, that ending became inevitable once they also decided to kill Abra's Dad and Billy (both of whom survived in the book).
Ain't no way Danny's not spending the rest of his life in prison, or on the run if he survives the fire, and he's been driving Billy's car, and in Abra's house, near the corpse of Abra's dad, there's a glove belonging to a dead kid in Iowa, with Billy's fingerprints on it.
The car theft and arson would be the least of the charges. Triple homicide, abduction of the kid, taking her over multiple state lines, child endangerment etc.
And his bedroom wall in Frazier has the word 'Murder' in huge letters cracked into the wall. Prosecutor would have no problem convincing a jury that he needs to go to prison for the rest of his life.

Zzavid when I tell you that I left the theater a mess because I was crying so hard... Guuurl! The Shining was the first Stephen King movie adaptation I watch and I've always loved it because the movie is good PERIODT, and I believe that Mike gave us exactly what was needed: an amazing expression of what King always intended and a beautiful rendition to The Shining. I felt connected to all the characters, specially to Danny and Abra, I feel like Danny's story is such a tragedy, he endured all the trauma, recovered from it, he was having a good life, to die!!! Yet I feel like it was needed, he helped this fantastic girl who needed him the most. AND THE FUCKING VISUALS! I was orgasming all the time! I don't know man... This movie is also one of my favorites, hence this long ass comment.
I totally get it, it’s such an emotional rollercoaster because you become so attached to the characters that when something happens it’s a family member died. And that’s something that mike Flanagan does so well. That man is just a genius when it comes to filmmaking. And of course mr long is just on a whole other wavelength

Your reactions were as good as mine after leaving the movie theater. I was just gushing and speechless at the same time by Doctor Sleep. It's one of my favorites as well. Mike also directed It Chapter 2. He just has a way of making you care about the characters and scaring you and making you cry at the same time. Horror I can get behind.
I can only imagine seeing all of this on the big screen, that just sounds magical. And now I’m curious about it chapter 2 because I’ve only seen the first one, so now I might have to add it to my list
@@zzavid5911 Please do. If you loved the 'feel' of Doctor Sleep & Hill House, you will love It Chapter 2. Because they all have the same feel. (scenes/writing/music/camera work) You can easily tell it was Mike who directed. I want to freak out watching you freak out while watching It Chapter 2. I liked the first film and the original. But I have to admit... they could have just skipped the first chapter all together. Because 2 gives you so much MORE. (Yes it was magical on the big screen just like Doctor Sleep.) After everyone saw Mike's work on Directing all of Hill House, he was hired to direct It Chapter 2 and they loved his work again so much they hired him again for Doctor Sleep.

BTW, the scene where the baseball kid gets killed? His acting freaked out the other actors on set. Rebecca Ferguson was shaking. Then the kid just got up, high-fived his dad, and got a sandwich from the craft services table. I mean holy shit.
